Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Isabella of Carthage, starring Ellimist, SleepingMoogle, and Nicolae

SleepingMoogle Wrote:I wasn't sure if I was meant to whip the Granary in Sirius, but it seemed like a better idea to let the city grow to size 6 and slow-build it, which should minimize the amount of 'lost' food once it starts storing it. The whip can be put into the next build instead.
I had no plans to whip the granary in Sirius. I figured we'd save the whipping for settlers/galleys.
SleepingMoogle Wrote:One small note: I'm not a big fan of queueing up moves in advance. Everything moved as soon as I loaded up the save, which leaves us unable to react to anything that happened outside of our turn (and a lot can happen in MP games). That's also the reason why I always cancel Worker actions before ending the turn.. it allows us to do something else with Workers if the situation requires it. In this case I cancelled the Workers from chopping immediately at the start of the next turn, so that if someone else were to finish the Oracle, we can still choose whether or not to invest the chops into another build.
Thanks for reminding me of this. I'd gotten into the habit of queueing up the micro each turn as I was planning it, and kept doing it so I wouldn't mismove and screw something up. It's straightforward enough now that there's no need for it.

I'll try to give a full reply later, I agree with most of what you wrote.

If we get a granary, it essentially doubles the food surplus of a city, so I disagree that a large existing surplus makes it pointless. However, I'm not sure it is optimal to be continually whipping off of mines in Canopus; some number crunching is probably needed here.

I agree we don't have to race for Colossus if we win the Oracle. Other teams would be crazy to go all-out for it. Even if they did, our head start should be enough.

By the way, I'm not trying to go all "Templars" here, but what do you think about Monotheism? OR will be nice for us and we may even land Judaism in a newly settled city for instant border pops.

Monotheism is be interesting, but it requires investing in a tech we don't need yet (Masonry), and Libraries plus open borders feel more useful short-term (and they reduce the time spent researching Mono as well). Writing also opens up Mathematics (and Currency by extension) and Aesthetics (which enables the Shwedagon Paya)

Depending on how things pan out, we can try fitting it in after Writing/Hunting?

It looks like we have the save. Either we'll see BIDL when we load it or we'll finish Oracle this turn.

I'm interested in seeing how much activity we see in the next day or two, and which threads are most active. If we win it, hopefully there is 1-2 teams that sacrificed for the wonder and missed out anyway.

Well, I took a quick peek at the save but I'll let you do the honours.

I hope I'm not giving too much away, but.. jive

It'll be 1-2 hours until I can get home. I don't mind if you put an end to the suspense, lol.

I wonder when NobleLewwyn was going to complete it. I hope it was this turn and we lucked out with being before them in the turn order.

I expected to see border bleed this turn in the south. Apparently things weren't positioned exactly where I expected them to be.

I think at the very least this rules out Kuro(creative) being our southern neighbor. I was sort of hoping it was him, he seems like fun to work with.

If it was him I was planning to send him a parody opening message where I suggest a "short" NAP to turn 680(the turns limit is 330), a settling agreement (of land neither of us has scouted yet), and a permanent alliance against the player currently in the lead in score(which happens to be us once we take Metal Casting.)

EDIT:
By the way, I put signs up of what I think the workers should do. I have:
Hernán building a road to Sirius through the gold tile to speed land units to the donut.
Francisco mining the hill that Pedro is currently standing on.
Pedro moving to improve Sirius. He can reach the grassland river tile in 2 turns, or he can partially build a road on his way there and reach it in 3(my preference.)

Feel free to modify this if you play the next turn.
