Where to will Singaboy steer the Teutonic power?

(May 16th, 2017, 09:12)Commodore Wrote: What's the HBR eureka?

Build a Pasture, which Singaboy has done on his Horses.

It's actually displayed on the bottom of the Research (& Civic) Tracker in the top-left. I believe that the last image on the post is from immediately before the pillage, so it's showing HBR with just the Eureka but not the 25beaker bonus.

Looks like HBR is 120b total, so 60b post-Eureka. Showing 5t before the pillage, it'll save 2t on the completion date, but probably more important is the hit to oledavy's bpt ... and the production he'll need to divert to rebuild it.

So, TheArchduke conquered Buenos Aires and I am last in overall score now  eek I do hope that he now focuses his energy on oledavy. If we both go after him at the same time, I doubt he will be able to put up sufficient forces to compete.
We shall see. Oledavy's horseman did not attack the last turn.
Seoul's warrior stepped next to Aachen, while Ulm finally produced a builder. Frankfurt was supposed to have its builder ready next trn and the production indicates, that should be the case, but in this display, it shows the builder is done in 2 turns. The UI is really bad in this game. Something so essential as bean counting should be done properly.

I take out the warrior with the help of the slinger and swordsman. The builder is used to connect the first amenity and the display should reflect that, but it doesn't. Something is completely out of whack this turn.
I still switch to Early Empire to complete next turn to switch the economic policy to Colonization.

However, as pointed out by Dreylin, a spear would be good and I start one in Ulm. As Ulm now has a production of 8 and the spear costing 65 hammers, it will take 8 turns (some overflow here). That should get much faster due to the rainforest chop.

My income should also go up to 5 gpt due to the additional gold on the cotton tile just as culture is higher now (and the amenities penalties are gone too). Let's hope next turn everything is back to normal.

I move the wounded swordsman down the hill, heal the wounded archer and move the healthy swordsman up towards Seoul. It will no doubt get bombarded by the archer, but if I want to finally commence attacking, that has to be part of the deal.

It will depend on oledavy's horseman, what my next move will be. If it doesn't show up, I will attack Seoul with one sword and one archer and then move the other two units in position. I estimate a damage of around 60 health for the first attack. With 20 healing, the second attack with potentially 2 archers and 2 swordsman could result in around 100+ damage. I could take the city on the third turn. However, if oledavy interferes or Seoul produces another archer, it will all be delayed.

The new swordsman unfortunately needs 5 - 6 turns to join the action.

That Cotton tile looks just lovely! nod

T60: Unfortunately, Seoul is mass producing archers. One attack wounds my sword and I cant even attack the city. I use the healthy archer to redline the new archer, take it out with my lvl 1 swordsman and then move all troops within range of Seoul to attack next turn. I am well aware that oledavy has full intel about my troops and could send a horseman down the road to disturb this.
I still need 2 -3 turns to take Seoul and be careful not to lose any troops. My guess is Seoul is bombarding an archer rather than a swordsman. My third sword is moving up toward Ulm and will join the battle in 4 turns.

Meanwhile, Early Empire is done and I finally start the path to PP. Since more settlers have taken a little lower priority, I decide to wait for colonization and instead chose the policy that gives +1 production in all cities.
Ulm's spear drops to 6 turns, but the builder there should speed it up next turn.

The annoying barbarian scout moves onto a CH between Aachen and Frankfurt, my slinger and warrior should be able to take care of it. Frankfurt will finally get its builder next turn and then go for the CH. Aachen needs another 2 turns for the chariot.

My science score now displays properly and is at a healthy 13 bpt while culture is slowly improving too. However, oledavy still has more than 20bpt even though I pillaged his campus. This is just not right.

In the far west, my scout spots a new city state. The rest of the players had city states all around them except me. I think, overall I got a real stinker deal with no city states and turn 3 barbarians. That's the risk of having no map editor.

Seoul's conquest that can end up in a disaster. I get the message that I have been attacked by both Seoul and Greece. Seoul's attack is expected, but I had hoped Greece would not join the attack.

Turns out that oledavy has an archer via the trade route and it fired on one of the swordsmen. This of course, is not good. I need to press on though, if I retreat, Seoul and Greece will simply produce more units an repel my attack. My hope is that TheArchduke (who now has the strongest army with a strength of 200) would press on oledavy in the west and tie down his units there.

I attack with both archers (the yellow archer should still be healthy to survive another counter attack), then use both swordsmen and the city is down to 52/100 health. It won't survive another full scale attack, if I can manage to do that. Of course, this will also depend on oledavy's troops. If he has this one archer, I should be doing fine, but if his horseman joins, that might be too much for me. I am hoping that I can use both archers to attack (should bring it to 30/200) and then use the yellow swordsman to take the city (it will earn it a promotion) while retreating the red-lined swordsman.

The builder in Frankfurt is done and work switched to the CH. Currently takes 16 turns, but  two hills will be mined and add +2 production as well as one forest chop. Should shorten it to maybe 10 turns. Aachen has grown to size 5 and the chariot done next turn just in time to take care of a new nuisance in the south. There seems to be yet another barb camp, which we need to take care of.

In Ulm, the spear drops to 2 turns as the rainforest is chopped (+25f +25p) and a 1f2p tile worked. The city has grown its borders + pop and includes a second cotton tile. Thanks to the chop, the swordsman can cross the river as well in one go and will reach the front in two turns. Might be very important to hold Seoul. I might insert yet another archer to beef up my defenses. I also lock the CH in Ulm, now that the rainforest has been chopped.

Research for HBR is done and Apprenticeship started. It should be done in about 10 turns, if Seoul can be taken (a third mine is being built next turn).

For now, it's to hold my breath and hope I can take Seoul next turn..maybe it will end in a disaster...

Fingers crossed!

Getting that bonus Builder would be nice!

By the way, I am thinking of improving the second cotton tile in Ulm rather than the bananas. Working that would give me

3f 4g 1c compared to 3f 1p 1c. And I could try and use the cotton to trade with another luxury, if possible.

Oh what a turn  eek

I open the save, fingers crossed and am greeted by the message that I lost a swordman to oledavy's horseman and got attacked twice in addition, one attack though on my slinger in the south as expected.

This is what I face:

Looks almost like a complete disaster. My promoted sword is gone and the other barely survived (sth like 15 health left). Unfortunately, the sword does not have enough exp to get promoted. I think long and hard what to do...archers on horses do not do very well and would only help the horseman to get its promotion. Seoul has 72 health. The swordsman actually indicates a major victory over Seoul when attacking, this is really good news.

I attack the city with both archers and bring it to around 30/200 health. The swordsman attacks and twirl dancing jive   Seoul is mine! The sad thing is that the builder has a mere charge left.
The health jumps immediately to 100/200.

Now, oledavy faces the option to attack my archers or Seoul. If his horseman goes after my yellow archer, the city will lose less health. The sword inside will get its promotion and get some health back next turn. It will also improve its defense. There is a sword only 2 turns away from the city and a spear is being produced next turn by Ulm as well. Interesting situation for sure.

I start another sword in Aachen to support the front-line. Frankfurt stays on its CH, at least one city has to do something productive. Seoul starts a wall. It currently takes 11 turns though. Via Seoul I gained another luxury. Science jumps to 17 (oledavy's science finally drops to 18), culture jumped too thanks to Seoul and the fact that I got an envoy for the heavy chariot. That chariot is moving south to chase that barbarian archer, while the slinger moves back to Aachen to heal. Thanks to the third hill being mined at Frankfurt, Apprenticeship gets its Eureka and drops to 8 turns.

My cities surely could use some granaries to grow, but there is just too much to build all in one go. Hansas will soon follow, but they would yield real benefits.

It will be very interesting, what I see when I open the save next...so far my game was full of drama and warfare...not AW, but pretty close to that smile

Ugh, not good losing the Sword, but great come-back to take Seoul. Mobility is going to be very important; the sooner you can break that road across the hills the better.

Probably won't have a good idea until after oledavy makes his moves, but do you think it'll be possible to get the Builder safely into the Rainforest to chop into the Walls?

How far off finishing Military Tradition are you? Is there any value in getting the Flanking bonus and a potential civics switch a couple of turns earlier, or is Oligarchy ASAP the better target? How many others have adopted one of the 4-slot Governments?

Oh, and I assume those two blue Warriors belong to Hattusa and aren't Seoul leftovers, right?

Hmmm, can you plant Frankfurt's Campus now, or not until it grows another size? Oh right, you're probably holding off to get the Hansa down ASAP.
