Kalin had a chance to get an e-mail out to me wanting me to wait before I signed any long term NAP with anybody and since I had made an "official" offer to the Incan's I figured I should get an e-mail out to them asap.
Quote:Hello Incan's,
I'm sorry to do this to you but Kalin had a chance to get an e-mail out to me, and he wanted me to hold off on signing any official NAP with anybody for the time being. He is back on Monday and we will discuss the direction of our civ at that time and of course (re-)make our proposal at that point. I am extremely apologetic for this, and I hope you understand I only send this as I want to be fair to Kalin and give him an opportunity in the direction of our civ as it is still quite early. I would reitirate for that we do have peaceful intentions. Sorry again and let it be known you're not the only ones that have gotten an e-mail like this.

The other civ is obviously Byzantium and they already know I wouldn't enter a long term agreement without Kalin's knowledge so atleast I haven't bungled anything with them.

It's actualy 2S of Pink Dot itself. It seems any resource icons in the rows S of pink dot across the board do not display. I guess it's some bug in Flying camera mode.

Turn 42 - Year 2320 BC
Owen Lars moved onto the forest NW of the horses. He will chop that to go into a settler.
Beru Lars finished the road on the rice. Next turn will move onto the forest with Owen with the intent to road. They'll both finish at the same time so they'll then pasture/road the horses.
Ellorrs survived against the lion at 1.6/2 health and is now at 5/5xp. Moved him SW and will promote to Woodsman II next turn for the healing bonus.
Bo Shek survived the monstrous lion unscathed and is now at 1/2 xp. Moved him SE towards the Incan's, will defog through to the coast then make his way to the 2nd city site.
Dice Ibegon moved NW and can see Spiros, a healing Byzantium warrior at 0.9/2 health to the SW of him.
We're at 16 vs 8 in spy points against Byzantium, so they're splitting theirs between us and probably the Incan's.
Pottery comes in when the turn rolls over, Coruscant to grow to 4 in 3 turns, Warrior built in 2. Will probably start a granary for 1 turn to reach size 4 and then immediately start a settler to get the chop.

Turn 43 - Year 2280 BC
Owen starts the chop, Beru moves onto the forest with Owen with plans to road.
Dice Ibegon moves W.
Bo Shek moves SE and is on the corner of the Incan border. Will send them a quick note.
Ellorrs Madak promotes to Woodsman II and is at 1.8/2 health. Moves SW, SW and is now along the coast. He's seen some horses which makes me believe we have found the general area as to where the Zulu were.
I think Byzantium has met somebody else as well as they only put 1 spy point against us this turn.
Pottery came in and on to writing now. First in GNP, but last in production and food. Disturbing! Also I think there are now atleast 2 civs with a 2nd city.

Quick note off to the Incan's
Quote:Hello again everybody,
Bo Shek has arrived on your doorstep killing a lion along the way. I thought I'd let you know he'll be moving NE next turn and will finish de-fogging the coast so do not be troubled by his presence.

I just got back and have lots of real life things to do atm however... I quickly checked the game this morning and much to my surprise I saw the Byzantine city of ... Paris (?) in a spot where I thought we'd see one of our cities.
It now becomes clear why they wanted a 100 turn NAP so quickly. I was a bit afraid of something like this. I think we should 2-pop whip the settler with as much overflow as possible into a chariot then chop some chariots and maybe whip again. I think we need 3 chariots to take Paris for sure so we should start planning along those lines. Our scouting warrior next to the Byzantine capital should probably go back and scout more around it... Get a worker if possible for example. I also wonder if they also have horses nearby just like us. I would suspect that given that it would be a bit imbalanced to give only some civs horses close. I also suspect/hope Byzantium doesn't have AH given that they went for religion, they have a farmed wheat and they start with mysticism and the wheel.
If things work out and we take Paris than we can send the chariots to pillage choke Byz. I think that they left us almost no choice here. Better now however than we they get their UU. Funny how we are the Ottomans and they are Byzantium, let's hope that real life history repeats itself If we manage to take their capital let's rename it Istambul
I will try to comment more later.
Kalin
P.S.: Let's not say anything to Byzantium unless they ask. In particular let's not send any threatening email... If anything maybe we can complain and ask for compensation to give a false sense of security.

I sent the message below to the Incans. What do the lurkers think?
I am really thinking about entering some alliance with the Incas (if they want) given the situation to our W. The message is entirely sincere from our part as we don't have aggressive intentions towards them.
@MWIN: I will certainly like to take Byzantium out I see 3 possibilities:
1) We take them out with chariots. Unlikely as they'll probably have archers soon.
2) We take Paris, then we choke them, pillaging their capital then leaving a couple of chariots around for a while. I hope and expect this to happen. This will effectively remove them as a factor from the game.
3) We fail to take Paris, and we trade units trying to choke them. This is bad, and would mean that both of us will be non-factors in the game. However (pending approval from Athlete) we'll fight to the end, and would not allow them to have Paris. If they do, we'll probably be dead, but with honor
Quote:Greetings to the Incan Triumvirate,
This is Kalin of Ottomans, and as Athlete may have told you, I have been out of town last week with very limited internet access.
I saw that Athlete proposed you a 100 turns NAP, however I had told him just before not to enter any long term NAP yet. The reason for that was that before we enter a long term NAP I would like us to agree on a partition of the land between us. Most conflicts seem to arise from people settling in places where other people would have want to settle and because of that a lot of hostility ensues. I am sure that you wouldn't like it if, under the cover of the NAP, we sent an unescorted settler and "stole" your copper. We certainly wouldn't like it if you did that to us I am really looking forward to having friendly relations and would like to avoid that situation. As such I suggest we inform each other of where we plan to settle for now, and discuss a partition of the land meanwhile. I saw you said at some point that you intend to settle W and claim the gold, a move which we find very good and perfectly fair. We intend to settle to get a copper SW of our capital.
I would also like to suggest that as much as possible we don't settle in each other direction just yet. I am almost sure that your bold move to eliminate Mortius created a bit more space for you in the other direction, and I think it would be good for you to grab as much land as possible from a competitor (Rome I think you said). In our case we'd rather expand in Byzantium direction, and we can both backfill later the land between us, after we came to an agreement. However, I would like some exceptions to be possible as long as we can agree on them. For example, our settling of the copper is somewhat in your direction, however it is only intended to grab the resource.
While we discuss, I would like to propose you a temporary NAP with no expiration date but with only 2 turns cooldown (that is, one party can announce on turn 10 that on turn 12 the NAP ceases to exist). I am suggesting this NAP so that we don't have to worry about stealing workers or other such things if for example a warrior is next to one's border.
I am hoping this to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship and hope to even discuss entering an alliance next.

P.S.: With holidays and all, we are all quite busy I assume. I would appreciate if you could send a quick aknowledgement when you get this message, and we would also do the same in the future. This is so that we don't start worrying about each other silences

The two-turn-notice-NAP sounds like a good way to gradually build up trust, I like it. Nice idea.
