RB PBEM #1 - Discussion Thread - No Players!

I don't think it's a Moby Dick thing at all. I think Dreylin is quite conscious of the fact that he's playing a sub-par strategy to win but a good strategy to find maximum enjoyment out of the game. IMHO if Dreylin can kill his 2 neighbors, both who wronged him in game, and then at least contest victory that would probably be more satisfying than winning while MH can just hang out alive.

I don't think it's a spoiler (well it can't be one since I'm playing) to say a lot of RBP1 decisions at this point aren't based around optimal paths to win the game.

I know I certainly wronged him by breaking the NAP, but what did MH do? I guess when he accepted peace the first time he didn't keep to the terms of the peace?
Played in:
RBPB2 - Willem of Ottoman - 6th/10
RBPB3 - Joao of Inca 13th/17 or so???

Well he just played his own style of game, but it was very aggressive towards Dreylin: razing his city at massive losses, spy missions, public taunting.

M_H seems like he wants to get peace but only at a time where he has a momentary upper hand. I can see that's what makes it fun for him, but that's also the time when Dreylin is least likely to accept peace.

Perhaps this is the only time he feels he can ask for peace? I know I've felt like that before, not that I ever had the upper hand in this game...

truth be told Dreylin was the first aggressor here. Both wars were started by Dreylin so talking abut mh wronged him is strange.

I think Ruff is seriously underestimating the value of mh. He seems to forget that he has to use his eco fpr research while Dreylin focus on culture and espionage. The later will make it close to impossible for Ruff to stop him. Especially as sabotage building is allowed and the Spaceship-parts are just that.

I don't think Ruff realized how much his mail to mh would rub him the wrong way.
I have to run.

As much as I hate to say it, I think lurkers need to keep quiet about spy mechanics unless the players directly ask.

The way to win culture through perpetual spy revolts is Great Works done by Artists produced elsewhere. Spies can't sabotage GPP, and being in revolt does not prevent a Great Work (in fact, I think the Great Work itself should end the revolt for that one turn.) Another approach is to build culture in as many cities as possible, Ruff can't revolt them all every turn.

Dreylin thinks that Ruff is somehow going to complete every spaceship part in one turn. I have no idea how that could happen, that would take like a dozen forest chops in every city.

Of course both players should have counterespionage missions active all the time, but they shouldn't be reminded if they don't think of it themselves.

What do you guys reckon about a (possibly cheesy) attempt by Dreylin to win by diplomatic victory?
