[SPOILER] Waterbat spends '104 Days of Summer Vacation'

t53:

Well, in a not-so-shocking development, catwalk completed TGL

Demos this turn:

C&D:
No techs! But Catwalk, with the wonder also grew a city (Eager Eagle) and 2-whipped city2 (BB). Azza grew up to size 7 in his capitol. SuperJM grew his cap. Unfortunately, Azza and TheArchDuke each founded a new city as well. That makes 5 for Azza and 4 for TAD.

Daily Waterbat screwup of basic game concepts:
(well not daily, as the turn has been stalled for gamesmanship and absence reasons recently)

So - i've been rushing to get 2 more happy connected (silver+beaver) as shown in the following:

But I am planning Representation?! so I didn't realize that it gives +3 happy in 5 largest cities. Given that I don't even have 5 cities, i think this should cover me for a bit. So, I should be concentrating on food resources there around Candace. I did start with the deer, but I might go for the silver next because a 3h/5g tile seems pretty good. Then the sheep and deer and back to to get the furs on the way out.

Well, having those workers there allowed me to kill catwalk's warrior as shows - I moved 3 workers - 2 to make the road, 1 to build camp. The 4th worker on the deer just stood still and made camp as well. So the deer is finished and a road was finished. Out came the axeman and finished off that pesky ant.

And finally, a truly shocking development!

An ISLAND!

2 questions for lurkers:

1) Can one of my workboats net that fish (marked in red) even though it is an ocean tile? If I found a city 1S,1SE of it, will i be able to create and work the nets after border pops to include them?

2) Do I really have to wait for Astronomy to settle this island? Caravels can't carry settlers, right? That seems like so far off.

add to #1 - if my workboat *can* reach this tile, can I then use it to scout the island by moving NW and re-entering coast after moving to the fish?

Unfortuntaely, the only other person to know about the islands for sure is TheArchDuke - and unfortunately - it looks like this island is on the mirror line - we'll have to beat him to it.

tile 1S of the fish is coast, not ocean as I indicated (not that it matters for my question)

Yes, if it's within your culture.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Thanks C, can my workboat use the tile to transit to the island (coastal square on the island would be not in my culture)? could i get a galley over there via that tile the same way?

you can sail within your culture no matter what ... which is quite nice since it means that you if need be can hide your ships there in case of naval combat, so enemies can't attack you before getting ships thats able to move in oceans

wow! so TAD could easily be on that island already with a settler. I better get over there asap and claim it for DANVILLE.

Thanks guys!

Just caught up, haven't read this thread in a bit. I have to say your interaction with Catwalk has me in stitches.

I get the AI-diplo fad on RB, but I really think greens games should just be full-diplo.

Very nice job on the pyraminds. How many specialists do you have now?
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

Bigger ... it should be a normal diplo, either full, none or AI.

And none of the shananigans trying to reinventing the wheel which only manages to make it confusing for everyone

t54: played this turn way too fast, but felt compelled to keep the save moving and was about to get busy. No, that that kind of "get busy"

Demos:

C&D:
well, i looked at pop and score increases and kept coming up 2 too many.

I could only come to the conclusion that catwalk tech'd a classical tech and put in 2 whips. This confirmed it:

Catwalk gained 4 points and it was IRON WORKING for 12 and 1-whipped 2 cities for -8.

There was 27000 net points in soldier gains this turn. It is quite possible that 26000 of this was catwalk. (IW + 2 Praets!).

This could get ugly soon. In the mean time, I am contemplating researching archery in 1T and then Construction in 5. It should only take me 2 turns of 0% research to do this - so 7 turns from now i can make cats to fend off a cat.

7t from now, i should have 3 more cities and can then start the limp to currency. If things aren't peaceful by then, I might be in some trouble.

also realizeing that I've been doing these reports wrong the whole time.

I am *really* interested in keeping the save moving, so often I play fast first and then go back and do C&D. I really need to start doing proper C&D FIRST. Doing it second is just not smart... although even after pondering this - i still sent on T55 (the next turn) before doing the work on it.

although - if he just got IW this turn - would it be possible to 1-whip a praet?

i guess if he was building something else that upgrades to a praet? - but he'd have to have more that 10h into that something... and that something could only be a 10h warrior ... so am I right that I am safe that those 2 whips were not praets?
