[PB28 SPOILERS ] Fenn Presents: A Comedy of Errors

Logged back in to take a few more shots. Maybe those units from Velociraptor are just dead:

Looks like Jowy had a huge Power drop a few turns ago. Might be why he's looking to get rid of Velociraptor all of a sudden? Mardoc probably wouldn't be happy if I swiped it from under his nose...

GNP:

Wealth builds in a few cities are inflating that value, but I'm still happy to be so far above everyone else on my continent.

To get an idea on how far Velociraptor is from Jowy's lands:

Yeah, not being able to finish off Mardoc (still funneling Copper to him btw) has really hampered him here. You can also see the barb city - nice place. That Wines resource looks handplaced - they don't normally spawn on flat plains, right?

Wine often spawns on flat plains.

Very nice thread, Fenn. I like the reporting.

This should tell you how often I play SP crazyeye

And thank you. I'm going to try to go back to reporting every turn, if only because having to write my thoughts down makes me think things through more.

Turn 111
Monkey Fever is founded:

My GNP went up when I placed this city, which is always a good sign. I really ought to have prioritized these island cities more than I ended up doing; imagine if I had planted this guy ten-fifteen turns earlier instead of building units to throw at Jowy.

I've got a Worker on site to camp the Ivory, with another on the way to speed it up. I think I'll leave the forest alone and rely on whip hammers for production here; every city is going to have 9 happiness so this guy can take some whips early on.

Update on Velociraptor: Jowy has three Vultures in the city, Mardoc has five Axemen. I don't think that's going to be enough to take the city, but maybe he has reinforcements on the way. I'm going to send an Archer to the forest hill 2NE to get a view on things there.

I've got several cities on Wealth builds, pushing towards Metal Casting so I can start getting Forges up and running. After that, it's either Code of Laws, or Iron Working+Machinery for CKNs. I guess I need to decide if I want war with Jowy, and figure out what sort of military tech he has - IIRC he still lacks Horses....

Last turn after Mardoc acted, Velociraptor seemed on the verge of falling:

But I think Jowy must have whipped another Vulture, because now there's two Vultures in the city and AM still have just two Axes outside it. If they do manage to capture it, I'm going to move up my Axes/Chariots to the border, cancel my Copper gift and demand Velociraptor for Copper (+some gpt maybe). Undecided if I want to declare war on Jowy and just capture it directly, he's still chopping all the tiles near Nilfgaard and probably has lots of military there.

Myself, I've been focused on peaceful builds - Metal Casting completed so all those cities on Wealth have switched to Forges. My next tech I have yet to decide - Calendar probably not since I'll soon have more than enough happiness between Ivory/Markets/Forges. Code of Laws is fairly cheap (3t on 100% science) but doesn't help me militarily, while Iron Working->Machinery is an expensive path (9t on 100%) and doesn't provide an immediate benefit aside from x-Mills and a few hammers from Iron.

Will be settling the second Ivory isle in two turns' time; the Settler's complete, the Galley is almost in position, and I have two free Workers in the area.

How many cities are we at, and how does that compare to the competition? Done anymore scouting on those big islands; are they getting settled anytime soon (or have they been settled by other people?)?

How long would Machinery take at break-even? Crossbows are the one answer to an army of Vultures (especially if Jowy still doesn't have horses), but you're right that it's far away. If you wanted to just turtle if Jowy attacked Feudalism is an option, but presumably that is far away as well (do we have Monarchy yet?)

Iron Working + Machinery would take about 16 turns at break-even; it depends on how many cities build Wealth though. We don't have Monarchy yet, that's part of the tech tree I've been neglecting for Currency.

We have eight cities, soon to be nine. Jowy has eight as well I think, but wetbandit has like 13, he's been very fast about settling the big neutral islands. His continent has been very peaceful from what I can tell, but he did just whip three times this turn so maybe that peace is ending. After I get the other Ivory place settled I'm going for our continent's neutral island next; I don't think Jowy has anything there, and AM don't either. So I could try to grab the island and turtle on the mainland until I surpass Jowy greatly; or rush for CKNs and try to take him and AM down sooner, before he can really leverage Financial.

I thought there were two neutral islands we could see, one at each corner? (the triangle model I hypothesized earlier)

How many people do we know? I thought we knew one other civ than wetbandit outside our continent--do they and wetbandit know each other?
Reply

There's three neutral islands in total, one up north and two in the south; in the same way there's one southern continent and two northern ones.

Here's the Diplo screen:

Borsche has Alphabet, so I'm offering Open Borders to him - should provide nice ICTRs for all of my coastal cities.

Jowy's building Power up again. Maybe it's to hit AM with again, but I can't help but worry. I'm already far enough behind the other civs without fighting all the time. Admittedly I was the one who declared on Jowy first. tongue

Oh, and AM attacked Velociraptor with their two Axemen and lost - neither of Jowy's Vultures died. That's probably what the QotM is about, or my waiting for the city to fall so I can extort it from them. alright

But AM might be gassed here if they did that - perhaps no more attackers are coming.
