He certainly appears to be playing a farmers gambit. Time for us to call that gambit and see how he responds.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Oh hey, that implies NC has Buddhism in at least one city. I know there's a "religious scouting" mechanic -- owner of the holy city has vision on all cities with that religion if it's their state religion, I think? That could be useful when we do convert.
I would still like to know what on earth Dona Nobis was founded to gain -- I can't see any resources in the area! Even so, gogo gadget opportunistic whacks and attendant razegeld. (I would also like to know what their naming scheme is.)
I see we're full speed ahead on Sailing, which I support -- galleys will give us a lot of mobility, even if we're not in a good state to grab circumnav. Being able to send settler pairs on a more direct route is excellent upside, and the Whales happy will be nice too.

A resource just north of the city, presumably? YOLO.
The naming theme is something musical. I'm not sure of the exact angle. Plus, screw the choice of Dona Nobis [Pacem] for that aggressive settle.

Yeah, sorry I didn't discuss this. I've gotten really busy this past week. Part of my thinking is: "what will be a good use of hammers to grow on?" . Galleys and Lighthouses have uses for us now. We can also improve the Whales, for +1 happy (and work, therefore justifying the placement of Onomatopoeia to Ruff ). And I've also been thinking about building:
...which would be a gamble, but we have 0% chance of getting the Pyramids without Stone, maybe a 10% chance of getting the Colossus (only if OT4E delays MC unnecessarily) and this is the best wonder left to us.
But, to emphasize, this is very abstract planning and nothing we can control for some time now.

That was in Vanilla, and IIRC was patched out in Warlords.

It's fine, DTG; I know I posted a while back about how getting galleys out was something I was interested in for giving us flexibility for both expansion and warfare (I believe I also posted similar monologues about the value of other techs, so as to cover my bases and look prophetically insightful no matter what you decide on ).
I'm iffy on the Great Lighthouse, mostly because of my existing suspicion that this is one very snaky pangaea with few to no offshore landmasses for ICTR (based on the use of peaks to create that Hidden Land we saw, rather than a simple island). Foreign trade routes might also be hard to come by, I think, if there's a lot of "backfill" between the two donuts. It would also require a detour to Masonry. Basically, I don't think it's worth the 200 hammers for 1c/city, even if the passive GPP would be nice.
(To be fair, I twitch at the notion of building most wonders when there's land to claim and tiles to improve. Working lots of improved tiles is an ancient age wonder I can get behind.)
@GJ: Thank you for the update! So much of my learning about the game has been through reading rather than playing, it's hard to know what's still current

No worst-case scenarios, where hidden Axes moved to camp the forest hill. We're at:
We can settle 1S or 1E of the city in 3–4 turns. Unless we want to work the Clams...
gsorel whipped 1-pop last turn, so we may need to deal with a defender.

I think we have enough to deal with a defender.
Options re resettling ...
1S - Advantages
- further from the front, closer to us
- able to put a fort on the eastern finger to provide naval transport
1S - Disadvantages
- provides hill for enemy units to camp on
1E - Advantages
- good view of northern land
- surrounded by flat land (=killing fields, hopefully)
1E - Disadvantages
- need to sacrifice tile in BFC for naval transport fort

Ugh, this resettle is annoying, because the logistically convenient spots for us approaching the area from the south have no resources. At least having it makes our frontline against gsorel more defensible, so we aren't really stretching our lines (except insofar as transferring troops now will take longer). I guess I support 1E; it requires more worker labor to get roaded up, but at least claims a resource, and leaves room for a hypothetical filler city 3N of Aischrologia we could found as a fishing village and cottage incubator.
I noticed that gsorel renamed the city to Quo Vadis, which is similar enough to Spanish that I was able to correctly guess that it meant "Where are you going?"; this may technically break the rule about no communication between teams, but is funny as hell. Petition to rename one of our axes some sort of answer before the turn rolls and we're out of our war half? Given the resources in the region, some sort of Sugar-Borrowing Brigade seems appropriate :P

Or just plain 'North!'
Can I just say that I am really enjoying my lunch times ... because it seems this game gets an update at around 11am my time ... and I can take my lunch and catch up at the same time.

1E looks slightly better to me too. Besides what's been said, that would stop gsorel resettling 1N of the currently farmed Sugar, and we'll maintain control over the non-riverside Sugar. It also seems to be the most defensible spot.
The site is primarily strategic; if Dona Nobis/Quo Vadis develops, then gsorel will be able to fork our immediate north including the super Clams/Horse/Corn/Ivory/Copper site. That means we need a large military just to sit around and twiddle their thumbs to stop a rush... which is part of the reason why we have these units now. We might as well put those hammers to use, and force gsorel to build more than 1 Impi for every 3 cities himself.

I think it's locked, but feel free to come up with something before we attack.
BTW, the city capture still isn't 100%. If gsorel can bring in an Axe from the north and he's already whipped an Axe in the city, then things become iffy. Then again, he has moved his Impi out of the city, so it's more likely than not that we're okay.

Just imagine how exciting it will be when the Zulu try and get their revenge in 50 turns and squash our little empire.
