I did too, but actually thought there was a decent chance these WERE Undercover words, but figured Pindicator would speak up if so.

Sure. Proper and fictional names are fine, as long as it's one word. If the teammates don't know the reference then that's on them.

Here's the endgame writeup from my side, it won't spoil red's side if they want to try guessing on Azoth.


Supernatural 4

I started from Angel + Figure + Wish, trying out clues like Heavenly, Miracle (risked Doctor, Life), Grace (Angel + Figure + State), Magical, which got me thinking about Potter as well, and also Sphinx but that's not quite exactly magical, just Fantastical, but that wasn't quite strong enough to get to Wish.  Then I hit on Supernatural to connect four of them and decided to go big with it.  A 4-clue is always bold, but crosschecking made it look very safe, everything on red's list and the assassin was thoroughly mundane and not supernatural at all.  I wasn't sure if the team would get everything, but they should hit enough to not get completely lost, and a 4-clue would put big pressure on red right away.  I gave this clue as soon as I thought of it rather than trying to plan out the entire board and turn sequence.

The team followed me perfectly on (Harry) Potter + Wish + Sphinx + Angel.  Figure was also an acceptable alternative.  In hindsight I even could have stretched the clue to 5 to get that.  But the team also did mention Doctor and Life as possibilities.  If either of those were picked I would be quite mad because anyone who followed that off-topic metaphysics thread would know I wouldn't think of those as supernatural at all.

We hit those, then I was grinning like a madman when red team picked State for us.  I was trying to clue State + Saloon with something like Texas or Arizona, but that would risk Fence since that's exactly how you would clue State + Fence.  I had no plan to get State and then red solved my biggest problem for me.  (By the way, this is the second time we've seen Crusade as a clue to relate Turkey plus some military related stuff.  That's what I meant about having seen words repeat enough that I wanted the new list.)


Bandit 3

A BANDIT is the FIGURE that would HIDE in a SALOON.  After you mentioned Figure for Supernatural, I thought you'd obviously think in that direction again.  I saw Fence and Boot (as in bootleg) as possible connections but just told myself nah, worrying about that is silly, that won't happen, Figure is stronger.  You were supposed to follow this logic: Hide + Saloon could be clued by something like Prohibition or Speakeasy, so why is the clue a person, that's what would lead you to Figure.

Why I made this a 3-clue: At this point my remaining words were Switch, Figure, Hide, Saloon.  I couldn't think of any good enough way to connect Switch to any of the others.  Darkness for Hide + Switch maybe but I didn't like that.  Shadowy could be Hide + Figure, but I couldn't connect the other two.  Schematic for Switch + Figure was the best I could think of, but I just somehow couldn't convince myself it was a good clue.  So I decided I had a better shot with Bandit on 3.  At least you got the easy part of this clue with no problem.

I wasn't thrilled with this clue but it got the job done for Switch + Figure.  Remember a clue doesn't have to be the best possible for the targets, it just has to connect when anything else on the board doesn't.  And it would clearly indicate away from Life as your other potential target, I very much appreciated the clear signal on your proposed +1 there.  You misread which of the two was also targeted by Bandit, but you got there anyway.

If we went for Doctor, it would have been in reference to Doctor Who, I'm sure.

Life - from me anyway that was just in the throwing things out to see if they stick phase. I don't think I'd have really been in favor of guessing it, unless we literally had no other ideas.

Glad to hear the response worked. I guess my problem with Figure is just that it's so broad - how many words are there where you *can't* find a connection to it? So I tended to discount it on anything tangential like bandit.
