[SPOILER] Suryavarman II of Maya - Whosit & Ravus Sol

Heeheeheeheeheee:

Quote:Sanibona Whovus

HIM would like to applaud you on the cultural regrowth around
DropShortALitre since we returned it to you. We clearly had not
expected such a rapid expansion!

Naturally, now we have Terrace in CazadorDeAmor, the Fish tile will
eventually fall back under our control. However, due to a border
settling agreement with the Totaal Voetbal Empire, we do not have the
capacity to build a Work-Boat there. HIM wondered if we could come to
an arrangement whereby you could improve the tile for us in return for
a share in the future commerce from it.

Incidentally we are pleased to advise you that the one we built whilst
we had your city has miraculously found some water! Sadly is too far
away to be of any use at this time.

I think that I am seriously going to consider the Work Boat for 100 gold offer (essentially, a refusal). Shame they got a Terrace up already, but what ya' gonna do? Well, I'll still control the Fish tile until they get Level 3 borders. Nope... not gonna play nice with these fuckers. If they claim that they did nice by giving the city back to me, I'd just reply that 1) you captured it in the first place, 2) I was going to take it back on my own soon, anyway.

Yeah, OK, enough about all that stupidity. Full ahead to Gardens! I hope. I hope that the other players have something better to do than build the HG right now.... I'm certainly not putting down a new city after that for a while! Need cottages at the capital and other places. Need some coin, badly. Will take Mist's advice and disband Warriors to save money. Farewell, Clubs Deuce. T_T

Gardens?! What do they have to do with REVENGE?

Absolutely everything! Now please allow me a few hours and a lot of questionable substances to justify this. lol

But, really, the very sad truth is that my economy is in no condition to allow for a good old fashioned rampage. frown So my best bet now is to spend some time whipping things into shape (maybe metaphorically, maybe literally) before I go batshit crazy all over GE's face. However, I won't rule out a quick slash-and-burn of his Lakeish city if he leaves it under-defended, though I don't think I'll really get a chance to peek in. Considering HBR after Currency for Stables and thus Sentry Chariots, but that's kind of a far off right now since my economy sucks.

But worry not, friend! I am sure to do something especially irrational and crazy soon enough! I mean, it's me.

OK, small photo dump. Just what I had on hand from the last few turns.

Here's where the Barb Town popped up:

Will send something to burn it when I get the chance. Not on the dotmap, and can't really afford a 6th city at the moment, either.

Finally getting this road set up. Ohh... won't catch me off-guard again, I swear.

Retreating troops and that little Work Boat that couldn't.

Bye-bye Work Boat!

Speaking of, haven't heard back from GE yet about my little sale offer. (I suspect he wasn't very happy with it!) lol

Great Wall was built. I suspect Tredje, but as I've stopped tracking score, I'll have to double check. Nakpar suspected he was doing a big Farmer's Gambit, though, so it would make sense. Could have been Malakai, I suppose, but I don't think his score jumped much.

Everything is on track for the HG to be done once I hit end turn on T62. Fingers crossed. I suppose I'll at least get some money if this falls through, but of course, the pop boost would be really nice right about now. Eve/Ning has one unhappy citizen. A Ball Court is certainly next.
Reply

Nakpar are up to six cities now. SIX! How do they manage to keep their economy afloat? Well, I'll be getting my fifth down next turn, and so long as no one complete HG this turn, I'll have it! I'm still very, very nervous, though. But if I get it, that's 5 citizens I earned, so yay.

City 5 will be connected by trade route immediately, 2 more turns for Drop/Liter. Oh! I need a name for City 5. Urgh... CardShortADeck is a good one, but GE suggested that, and I'm not sure I can accept that! Maybe BitShortAByte. Yeah? I dunno. Save's likely to come around tonight, maybe.

NailShortARealm popped out a Worker with enough overflow for another in 1 turn, so that's what it's doin'. DropShortALiter grew back to size two, so will switch to a Worker and whip ASAP, then the 3 Workers that'll be there can start choppin' stuff and finally layin' down cottages and buildin' farms and stuff. Workers at NailShortARealm will do cottages, and I need some cottages at the capital, too. Already turn 61 with no cottages! What the hell have I been smoking.

Oh, I guess it was "fast expand with no military and barely enough workers to keep up." Well, I'm gonna crank me out some Workers and hopefully that'll be a bygone issue. Can probably start teching Currency now. I imagine I'll be a little short on coin, but we'll see. Need the money. Can't be falling behind like this already.

So, here's some pictures an' stuff:

Got a couple of border pops which is nice as that's another turn's warning in case anyone decides to pay a visit. I'll probably want to pick up Calendar sometime soon so I can make the most of those sugars and spices. Anyway... hoping no one snags that Wonder out from under me.

Arright. New city is NoteShortASong. Has a nice ring to it.

Did some murder on our finances, though:

Also:

Jumped up to 4th place in score, and also happen to be 4th in GNP, Production, Food, and Population. Bluh. Gotta improve that. Gonna spend some time getting cities developed and economy going before building more cities. I'm upset that I've been outstripped by the English, but they may have better income than me.

GE got a new city, too. Oh well.

EveShortANing has two unhappy people and is starving, but Rice farm will finish next turn (not currently being worked at the moment, either) so no worries. 2-turn ball court should solve happy problems. Not sure if I should whip it though since it's 2-pop. Eh, probably will. New city can whip granary right away. Whee!!

Otherwise, just spamming workers out of half my cities. Got a team of 3 on cottage planting duty.

Also a thought: Once I get currency in, EveShortANing can build Wealth when no troops or infrastructure is needed. Lots of hammers = lots of money, so that'd be a good jump-start. Gotta get currency first, though.... It's going to be a struggle.

Congrats on getting the Hanging Gardens! thumbsup

How many workers do you have, and how many are you aiming for?

Thanks.

At the end of Turn 62, I have 11 workers (1 just popped). I think I'm looking to get 3-4 Workers per city, so... with 5 cities, that's 15-20 Workers. I will probably fall on the low-end of that, though.

Got a note from the Nakpars. Was actually thinking of sending them something, myself:

Quote:Crazy Crazy,

Hey there. Haven't chatted in a bit so I figured I'd touch base. How are things going in Crazyland? Over in Voetbaldom, we spend most of our days and nights cursing maintenance costs. Probably this should stop us planting new cities for a bit. Probably it won't. I trust you've largely recovered from GEs gambit by now? Wonder how long recovering from it will take him? Actually, come to think of it, I don't much care, other than I'm 100% sure we'll declare on him at some point and hope he hasn't recovered by then. No time soon however, as even if we could, the aforementioned maintenance would mean we'd just be razing everything.

Speaking of maintenance, we think we can have a road to your border in 6-8 turns. Would you like to Open Borders in anticipation of hooking up some mutually beneficial trade routes? We can set up the standard no ROP clause, though I will say, we think of you as friends of the nation, so I see no reason for either of us to be worried about any military aggression, though if I'm overstating our relationship, feel free to correct me. I doubt there'll be much opportunity for resource trades, as we all have the same stuff in our boxes, though we're certainly amenable to that as well if we have something that you need and we're not using.

Anything else tickles your crazy, you know where to find us.

Crazily yours,
Gaspar

I'll reply soon. Gist of it will be "yeah, maintenance is killer, what are you doing??? I thought I was the crazy one" and "kill kill kill GE" and "can probably get a road set up in the time frame, OB is good, but would like RoP only by prior permission" as I am still a bit wary. Might also note that the only likely resource trades are aquatic if someone happens to get unlucky with lakes. Still, kind of a weak trade. Bleh.

Interestingly, no mention of HG. Figure it's pretty clear who got it....

Chat with Nakor:

Gaspar/Nakor: Hey there, Whosit! How's life?
Can I expect the turn within the next hour or so?
me: If I had the turn, you could.
You already played 520, right?
Gaspar/Nakor: Aha... still waiting for it? Yes, we played 520.
Good pace in this game, btw!
me: Yeah.
Gaspar/Nakor: okay, then it's up to Gaspar again, I guess. He's always the lucky one...
me: Hopefully you're not two minds on most matters.
Well, you are.
But as far as the actual turns are concerned.
Gaspar/Nakor: nope, we're pretty much on the same page... just talking about minor details in our thread. Like how fast you can expand before your economy really crashes...
me: Probably not much further.
Unless you've got a good economic base already.
Maybe if all your cities are working cottages.
Gaspar/Nakor: cottages? uhm... yeah, we need to chop more forests...
smile
I think we can manage a bit more... try to take it to the limit... Really wonder how Tredje is managing his game..
me: Haven't met him yet. What's he up to on city count?
Gaspar/Nakor: Six, same as us and Kyan. But he has build 3 wonders already..
me: 3?
Gaspar/Nakor: Just giving you free intell (been a long day)
yep, all in his second city
me: Figured the Great Wall was his.
Gaspar/Nakor: Great Wall, ToA and...
another one... was it Henge?
me: That was built.
Wasn't sure who it was. Guess you have sight into his city?
Gaspar/Nakor: Kyan got Oracle, of course.
Nope.
Just look at top 5 cities.
me: oh, yeah
Heard from GE in the last few days?
I think I made him angry
Gaspar/Nakor: Yes. We got a bit of a heated discussion, but you go first! wink
me: Heh.
Since I kicked his WB off the lake, he wanted me to build him a new one for... I don't know... commerce from the fish?
Anyway, my counter offer was very fair.
100 gold up front.
Haven't heard from him since.
Gaspar/Nakor: ROFL!
he did tell us that and it was pretty funy. You mentioned Malakai as the guy for the money transfer and that made him thing we were at odds
me: You and Malakai?
At odds, I mean.
Gaspar/Nakor: Nope, you and uss
me: Oh. Hee hee
Guess he didn't realize it was because Malakai actually has currency.
Gaspar/Nakor: Guess he doesn't want to buy a boat then.
He tough we had it already (we have it now, though)
No, had a long exchange about a city we wanted to settle and he kept saying "I insist" and then a whole lot of crap about what we couldn't do
we, of course, tried to negotiate. It's part of our RP.
Finally we got what we wanted but Gaspar was pretty furious
Now we can settle right next to his border... smile
city 7...ugh...
crash a bit more...
me: I need to finish currency off before I get much more.
Bah. If it wasn't for the war...
Gaspar/Nakor: me neither. war is inevitable, but not for quite some time.
me: GE got his 4th city. Wonder if it picked up the horses.
plan to scout out in his direction soon.
Gaspar/Nakor: He's backfilling.
me: Backfilling with 2 core cities?
Gaspar/Nakor: smile
stretching to get to the lake... all about fish
me: Well, guess I did the same thing.
Gaspar/Nakor: And that you did, my friend...
Maintenance is killing on a Duel Torroidal map
me: Pretty vicious of Ruff.
Oh.
Did you correct GE on his assessment of our relationship, or not?
I hope not.
Gaspar/Nakor: Making a forested map with India on it is even more vicious.
Sure we didn't tell that to GE. It's better if he thinks we're at odds.
me: Either Sandover is tearing out his hair or he just doesn't care.
Gaspar/Nakor: he is posting there. really don't know what GE is up to.
me: Maybe his seeming incompetence, irrationality, and grandstanding is all a cunning disguise for his true plans.
Gaspar/Nakor: uhm...
me: Just a theory.
Or
Hypothesis? Well, this isn't science, I suppose.
Sent at 2:53 PM on Monday
Gaspar/Nakor: I think it's a hypothesis. Mine is a bit different: Maybe his seemin g incometence, irrationality, and grandstanding is just how he is...
me: That's probably could be true.
But if start spouting nonsense like that, no one will take me serious as a paranoid maniac.
Gaspar/Nakor: Well, yours could be true as well.
He is new to RB, right?
me: I think so.
Of course... I'd never assume that means someone is a weak player.
Gaspar/Nakor: so no other threads te read about him.
me: Nope.
Gaspar/Nakor: me neither, but if he has new, we don't have a lot of intell on his style.
me: Hmmm.... wonder if we (and by "we," I mean you) could end up convincing him to go chomp on Tredje in the nearish future before Cataphracts.
Use him to hurt Tredje, then kill GE.
Gaspar/Nakor: you are bad!
me: Nawwww.
Gaspar/Nakor: yeah...
well, we can always see which way the dice rolls.
GE will decide on a new target at around t100.
Won't be us
(and I mean Gaspar and me)
me: right.
will have to convince him that choosing me would be bad
hafta keep my power rating up.
I guess.
Gaspar/Nakor: Seems like a wise thing to do no matter what.
to bad maintenance for workers and military is combined...
Sent at 3:00 PM on Monday
Gaspar/Nakor: okay, time to sign off. I'll leave the turn for Gaspar. Thanks for the talk and use all the free information wisely!
me: Will try to do that.
Later.
Gaspar/Nakor: later

In short: Traded some notes on GE. I think he told them the Work Boat story, and he seems to have interpreted my suggestion of trading money through Malakai as an indication that England and I are not on great terms. Probably still thinks that.

Griped about the map a bit. Nakor mentioned the Wonders Tredje got (but didn't mention the HG). Thought about saying something like "so, who do you think got the HG," but then I realized that I shouldn't know about that yet. Oh well, maybe I'm over thinking their silence? Dunno. Might be some other useful bits in there... tired, though... sorry if you have to read through it.

Here's what I sent. Wish I still had Ravus around, as I'm worried a bit my RoP suggestion could offend them. Hopefully not.

Quote:Heyyyy Gaspar,

Was thinking of dropping you a line myself. How fortuitous. The Crazy people are recovering from the trauma of war and re-integrating the people of DropShortALiter into our empire. Gotta put that lead back in the water. What may be of interest to you is that we have begun establishing Ball Courts. You're welcome to challenge our reigning champions to a match, but I must warn you, they've got sick skills and their moves are deranged. Meanwhile, I'm doing my best to keep up with the cities, but I think that I'm going to have to refrain from rampant settling for a little while, myself.

As for GE, he will recover. How long it takes or how far he'll get is immaterial--he will simply be stronger when the time comes. I mentioned something to Nakor that he admonished me for, but I think that it would be fun to try and convince GE to hit Tredje as soon as possible. Point out Tredje is running a Farmer's Gambit and that he's liable to beeline Cataphracts so he can stomp someone bad and gain a huge lead. Once GE has dashed his armies on Tredje, causing both great pain, we take out GE. Or Tredje. But preferably GE. Then maybe we can convince Tredje we came to his rescue (not likely since GE will probably point a finger at us) and get him to attack, say Kyan instead of us. It's so devious, but horribly complicated. Just a thought.

I think that I can a road put up in that time-frame. Maybe a bit longer since I'll still have to deal with the forests. Could you send me an area screen shot denoting the tile your road will end on so that I can build in the right direction? Also, Open Borders are fine now, but I still feel a bit wary. Perhaps granting RoP only with prior permission would be a practical compromise? That is, for example, I say "I want to send x units through your land to get to wherever" and then you say "yes" or "no." Just a thought.

And, sadly, I agree that there will probably be little to trade in the way of resources. It's possible one of us may grab a particular resource before the other, but there are not a lot of duplicate resources on the map. At least, few duplicates that aren't very close to the core.

Quote:Hey Whosit,

Read your chit-chat with Nakor. I think we're corrupting Nakor, soon he'll see the error of his ways. Congrats on the Ball Courts, I look forward to seeing several size 20 Crazy metropolises. I'd send our Champions to challenge your Champs to a match, but I fear we may end up with our ears bitten off. Perhaps later, after we've invented Headguards.

I think you're both right and wrong re: Gingereagle. (Keep in mind this is just us talking, not anything official as I haven't even run this by Nakor yet. All of our conversation has centered on how we can best run our economy directly into the ground.) I think your war plus our hardline negotiating has sort of driven GE to seek out Kyan and Tredje as friends. While I'd really like to throw him at Tredje or Kyan, I just don't see how its possible. To be completely honest, I've sort of always anticipated that the next war in this game would be our two Civs figuring out a good way to divide up Inca. I do think we need to start planning a diplomacy metagame, and I also think our two Civ's are probably the one's to make it happen. We're behind the two giants but still very much in the game. Malakai and GE have had really poor starts and I think are just guppies waiting to be devoured by the bigger fish. We do have a decent relationship with Malakai, so I'm sure we could probably talk him into helping a bit with whatever we do, but I don't think we can convince him to be a real part of it. While I have noodled on this a bit, I don't really have an answer. My guess is around T125 that most of us will have filled up our original squares and that's when war starts to break out. Probably the usual Knights vs Longbows situation. Obviously someone getting to Tredje before Cataphracts would be the best situation.

I'll have a road at Dropshortaliter's 3rd ring next turn. We're going to put a city on the lake that is the NE border of our square and the SW corner of Tredje's shortly. While I'm not especially fond of adding maintenance, we feel like we can't just give that site to him, given his strong start, so we're getting it up now and paying for it later. The consequence of that is we'll be near you with a road posthaste. RoP only with prior discussion sounds groovy. As far as resources go, we can see what is the what once we have a trade route.

Last but not least, have you or are you getting IW anytime soon? Would love to know where Iron is. Just curious.

Gaspar,
More Crazy than Footy

I'll reply tomorrow when I can think and when I won't pass out of exhaustion onto my computer's keyboard. Um... what do I think of it? Situation with GE sounds about right from what I know... getting him to fight the others was a nice thought.

Um.... so they're gonna put down a 7th city???? They've both said that they're killing their economy, but I'm not about to take that at face value since that seems kinda dumb. Their economy is still better than mine at the moment, and I'm sure they have a plan to recoup all their expenses. Well, foreign trade routes will be nice. Hmm... will they get more out of it than me if they have more cities? I was under the impression that it's a one-to-one ratio, or something. Or will I get more out of it since they have more cities? Hmmm....

Also, IW isn't on my immediate list, sadly. I too want to know where the iron lies.
