[SPOILER] Shaka of Inca - gingereagle1969 & Sandover

First off Thanks for an entertaining thread thumbsup :

Sandover Wrote:I'm not surprised Kyan ends up winning tbh. Looking at the lineup at the signup stage (before I withdrew) I figured the game would turn into a duel between him and me.

I think you are unfair here. On this extremly wooded Map expansive fast workers are nearly impossible to beat as long as he knows CIV (which Kyan obviously does. See PBEM4 etc).

I'm just thinking out loud really, since I obviously haven't read the other threads yet. Are you of the opinion, based on reading the threads, that Kyan wouldn't have won if he only had normal workers? And in that case, who do you think played a better game than him?

Also, I don't quite understand your PBEM4 referal, as I've only been following the veteran version since I (correctly?) assumed Kyan would stomp the other game easily before it even started.

The Kyan/PBEM4 reference misses 'as long as he knows CIV' which I will insert now.

And I have no problem in your portraing Kyan as a very good player.

But I think a game without cheap fast workers would have been a closer run between Tredje, Nakor/Gaspar and him.

Ah, now I get it.

Oh definitly. That must be true considering the map. I remain convinced Kyan had an edge on the competition and was the likely winner on any map setup, however, as I don't think neither Tredje nor Nakor/Gaspar can match Kyan in a fair fight because he's a lot better than he makes himself out to be.

This maybe but Civ is not only about MM-ing wink. A certain Pharao couldn't win PBEM3 although he played the best Civ cause of diplomacy.
Against a 2v1 on a fair map Kyan (with his farmer gambit) would be hard put to survive.

BW Tredje did keep pace with him for quite some time.

really? in what way? the early RP persona & dreadful diplo? the half-arsed plans? chopping [no, not the forests lol] & changing every few posts? the Shakira pics?
PBEM12 - Shaka of Inca [6/6*] PBEM18 (Apps) - Augustus of China [4/4*] PBEM31 - Hannibal of Greece [jnt2-4/5*] PBEM72 - Willem of Oranje - Dutch [3/4*] PBEM74A -Catherine of Babylon [4/4][*ended early]

As I was ded-lurker for Whosit I found your part of the whole Lake-side story (+ flying WB) very interesting smile

And yes your way to post and play and dipo were entertaining to read now (afterwards) smile

Pfft, I was going to win and you know it! Just wasn't arsed about the turn pace anymore.

Sure, but isn't basing pre-game speculations around who you think is going to gang up on who a little bit over the top?

Roger that. I'll make sure to check out his thread at some point.

Haven't read this thread - don't know if I ever intend to read any of them, but there was conversation here, and I get to now, so I couldn't resist it.

I think our game was pretty even with Tredje's. We'd caught him for all intents before he hit his last GA, and since both Kyan and he had fired multiple GAs and we had at least two MOM-powered ones left, I think we'd have at a minimum been even with Tredje if we didn't end the game. Kyan was uncatchable for the reasons Rowain suggested, and he *is* the best player in this game. He's not so much better than us, however, that as Rowain suggested, Tredje and us couldn't have given him a match had we 1. Smartly attacked sooner or 2. Been on a fairer map.

Honestly, we should have just re-rolled the game as soon as we saw the map. Not only because it greatly favored India, or for that matter, expansive as a whole, but also because the map was just absurd in all ways.

As for you GE, you were a bit out of your depth, but don't be so hard on yourself - your rush on Whosit worked out pretty well, even if fortuitous. If you hadn't given it back (haven't really read the thread, so I can't speak to why) you'd have been in better position.

Of course, as we said in our thread at the time, that was a bad idea for you the same way it was a bad idea for Whosit. The maintenance once this map was too high to be making those kinds of settlements that early, and there's absolutely no need for any Pink Dot type moves on a map where the mapmaker gives you that much room to expand to peacefully.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
