Turns 65 & 66

Things are moving nicely for the GLH. Based on my calculations, without a whip we'll have it in 10 turns, on T76. If, as I think someone said, whips are half as effective on wonders, we could still 2-pop whip it on T74 for completion (we'll be at 11hpt at that point, so 2-pop = 25h = 2 turns).

We'll have AH next turn, then we are setting our sights on Archery, correct?

I whipped Nevada on T65 for the monument, and it'll have a new WB in 2 turns (well before its borders will actually pop). What's next on the build list? Granary? Lighthouse? Both would be very useful, but I think the Lighthouse has a slight edge in my opinion.

Big E grew to size 5, so I switched it to a Settler.

I also whipped Bismarck on T65 for its monument, and it produced an axe this turn, which worked out extremely well as we have a barb axe heading towards us:

I also started moving the axe from E towards the barb in case our first one dies. Though I'm loathe to do it, we may have to fight him on the silver hill or we'll lose it, which makes our odds not great, hence the backup. And E has an extra happiness right now, so the loss of its soldier isn't a big deal.

I switched PoW to a monument, which will be 1-pop whipped when it grows to size 3 (so it can keep working a farm and the silver).

Demos:

We're doing OK in GNP now that we have the silver online...when we have the gold in a little bit we'll be in even better shape. We're doing very well in Prod, but we're surprisingly far behind in food. Well, that will also go up when the deer and clams come online.

Also took a shot of the resource screen. Whosit has horses and ivory, and Elum/mack are doing well on seafood, and they both have more food resources than we do (cows/sheep, wheat):

Turn 67

In a "finally!" turn of events, we got a pretty good outcome -- we have horses, and in a very good location:

So we'll have those online in a few turns (I have 2 workers moving there to get them hooked up). Unfortunately, that won't help with the barb axe charging towards our silver. My guess is that we're going to lose it, as I don't want to attack with an axe across the river onto a hill. I'm going to move the first axe into PoW and the second will sit next to the silver across the river, and we'll wait for him to come off the tile (or attack the city). Unless you can think of a better way to handle it? But with unpromoted axes, our options are pretty limited. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose one of them; I'm just hoping we don't lose both.

I'd move both axes into the city. There's the off chance that the barb axe goes for the desert hill and towards the workers, in which case you might consider an attack, and the chance that the barb axe moves to silver, attacks city, and wins. We'd want to clean up with the axe not getting the river malus. Before construction, that river will hamper our axes mobility.

Is that the only horse tile?

Turn 68

First axe arrived in PoW, second one will arrive next turn. The barb is most likely going to pillage the mine, then the road before either attacking or moving, so they'll both be in place.

There is another horse:

Not a bad location, but not a convenient location, either. Convenient for grabbing the pigs, too, though. I think 1S of the pigs might be a decent city location later on.

I chopped the first forest into the GLH this turn on the grassland hill. I'll actually be able to mine it 1 turn before Yamato grows to size 5 so it'll be available for the new pop to work. Then I'll chop the other forest and that should finish it.

Turn 69

Unsurprisingly, the barb axe pillaged the silver, sending both Enterprise and Yamato into revolt. Yamato, however, will come out next turn as its whip unhappiness wears off. Both of our axes are now in Bismarck waiting for the barb to come off the hill or the horses to get hooked up, whichever comes first. I think Bismarck will be building some Chariots as soon as the horses are online. The odds to attack onto the hill from Bismarck are 25%, so we definitely need something more effective against them.

Other than that, just normal stuff. Starting building a camp on the deer near Nevada. Pasture on horses should finish next turn, then a road 2 turns after that.

Happy New Year from frigid 39 degree land! Good to get a chariot from Bismarck pronto.

It gets colder than that out here! I think it was down into the 20s last night. The cold killed my basil plants, anyway. shakehead

Turn 70

Ah, a good turn. The barb attacked the city and lost handily, with our axe only taking 1 hit. Thank you RNG!

We've got another barb on the way, but this one's just a warrior. No problem at all for our axes.

Enterprise is still in revolt because of the loss of silver and absence of military unit (it had one of the axes), so I 2-pop whipped the settler that was building. That buys us several turns before it goes into revolt again as I set it to work a cottage instead of the corn so it won't grow back so quickly as it's at its happy cap right now. I sent E's axe back, but it'll take 4 turns to get there. Bismarck took the corn and PoW took the rice (and is also working the horse tile).

The horses were actually hooked up this turn, so Bismarck will finish its granary (1 turn left) and then build a chariot (maybe 2 -- I think an explorer would be useful). Next turn I'll have 3 workers on the silver hill, so it should be back online in 2 turns. There's already an axe ready for the Gold city, so the settler will be on its way there next turn.

All in all, things are going reasonably well.

Sounds good. Is the GLH plan still on track?

Yep. By my calculations the 1 turn of unhappiness in Yamato won't effect the completion date as we only lost 1 hammer.
