Tatan Wrote:Any ideas, Adlain, if you aren't too busy resisting my inevitable victory in PBEM11? And here was me thinking no out of game contact allowed befor ingame contact!! . On a serious note, I have been neglecting you in this game while we have been setting up pbem 11, sorry about that, but I didn't realise the amount of time the planning could take. (although I am regretting not taking chruchill of America as my pick) As for this game, any chance of sending me a copy of the game so I can look around??, it may help me come up with a plan of action, although I do agree with rowain - we have alot of population that could be whipped away for minimal loss in our GNP but massive gains in our production (maybe whip out some currency building to improve our GNP or some docks to give extra xp for our eastindiamen). I will try to think of a more concoete set of ideas tonight. Oh, mistyped earlier - I, Hammurabi of England will be beating you In pbem 11, don't you worry about that

I know that the whip gives me an easy way to get production... but I've been kind of leery of using it, because if I whip away my pop advantage for some temporary production gain I am left with nothing. Most of the cities already have libraries [I think?]; I planned to whip out some Observatories eventually, when Astro comes in, but until then I don't want to lose too much pop.

Same as me tatan, I can be alittle lenient with the whip myself, but I'm thinking it could help us get back on par with the others if we use it somewhat aggressively, smartly and quickly. I will be making a wb save of what we know from the save you sent me if I can tonight and run some Simms. I will try to post somthing Sencible tomorrow for discussion.

It's okay if you don't get to the sim right away, Adlain.
I certainly haven't exactly been consistent with my stuff recently [I blame Adventure 48!]. Ehrlitan does in fact have a pretty big food surplus, but Globe will have to wait until I go to that area of the tech tree [also, I loaned its Deer tile to Yaktustksckskkkz__..$, not sure whether that should be permanent or not]. Most recent turn [which I played yesterday but forgot to report on], I looked around the cities for different whipping targets; most of the colonial cities actually probably should wait to be whipped, because a lot of them are still suffering whip unhappiness from infrastructure whips, and also need to be growing onto those delicious, beautiful, wonderful cottages. I did set most mainland cities on maces/stuff, though, so they can whip that out next turn; actually, that times almost perfectly with Indiamen, I can whip out a fleet pretty much as soon as Astro is in. Anyway, here's what happened last turn. ![]() Pirates! Nearest Trireme let loose, set to "kill". On the concerning front: ![]() [SIZE="1"]help[/SIZE] ALSO CONCERNING: ![]() Alright. Let me see. There are three reasons why Cyneheard would build a road there, at least that I can think of. 1)Cyneheard wants a trade connection, which would be stupid because we already have one via sea. Next! 2)Cyneheard made a mis-click/n00b mistake. However, if it were a mis-click he would have cancelled the order and it wouldn't still say "Build a road (2)". And I know 97% of the way that Cyneheard is no n00b. 3)Cyneheard wants to move in on me! ![]() Hmm. #3 seems unlikely [Why do it in advance, instead of instantly with two workers? Why not use galleys?], but none of the other options make sense. Puzzling. Our NAP is to [and up through] Turn 110 [this is Turn 98], so I should ask for an extension with-in a few turns, for some heads-up warning if he is attacking. Speaking of which... Who are we attacking? We both seem to agree on a wacky East Indiamen rush, but... where/who? The options, as I see them:-Attack Cyneheard. Pros: -He is one of the leaders. -He could [could] be up to some sort of trickery. -I could dismantle his iron pretty quickly. Cons: -He is one of the leaders. -He is a much more skilled general than I. -He has/will have a fair bit more military than Serdoa. -If I let NAP expire he will know I am coming for him. -He can dismantle MY iron pretty quickly. -I'm not sure if I can have a solid naval assault force ready in time -He has been faithful in all deals the entire game and is the only person who has corresponded with me reliably. Option Rating: ** stars. Revised Option Rating [if he is attacking me]: ***** [if he attacked me in the front and then I was able to attack him from the back, I would get like a bajillion style points] -Re-Attack Serdoa Pros: -Serdoa is still pretty weak overall. -His forces are mostly obsolete [at least, those I can see]. -Wonders! [specifically: if I could get Pyramids, a Representation economy could do wonders (har!)]. -We're not particularly close, diplomatically. -Meatbalz might be attacking him [and thus NOT lending him iron] -Maybe Serdoa and I misunderstood the peace terms [I barely understand them myself ], but he seems to be gypping me out of my gold. I was under the impression I would get 1/2 gpt for each of my cities with Buddhism; he gave me 2 gpt [which was a rounded-down number, anyway] for 10 turns, and then has not done anything since. Also, still trying to chase him up about the missionaries.-I want revenge for the Debacle at Novgorod. Cons: -He is probably pretty suspicious of me. -The gold thing could be a simple misunderstanding. -The whole thing would be SOOOO predictable. Option Rating: **** stars. -Go attack someone on the polar opposite end of the world Pros: -No one would see it coming AT ALL. -Again, style points. Cons: -Any conquests I made would be extremely expensive. -Reinforcing the colonies would be a logistical nightmare. -After the first two turns of novelty, the colonies would become a pain in the rear with no real benefit. -This would only even work if the map was Toroidal, which I'm not sure it is yet. Option rating: * star. Why did I even bring this up?So, yeah... What do you think, Adlain? Here's my plan: ask Cyneheard for a NAP extension [~15-20 turns, methinks?], and if he accepts, prepare for Russo-Dutch Conflict Phase II: Vendetta, and if he declines, prepare for the First Puny War!* ![]() [SIZE="1"]*lololololol do u get it[/SIZE] Anyway, back to the turn: it's time for the quest to prove the world is round! [even though actually I checked and due to the lack of a global view the world must either be flat or toroidal] ![]() Forward Unto Dawn will go SE, seeking the warm waters and giant squid that live there. ![]() In Amber Clad will first skirt around Cyneheard [and narrowly miss the Ad Hoc fishing boat], and then head NW to rendezvous mid-sea with FUD. Unless the world is flat, of course, which is why I'm only investing in two caravels. And... that's it. Actually, this report took longer than I thought it would, looks like next turn is already here; I guess this means it's time to throw caution to the wolves and feast on flesh of recklessness! [read: I'm just going to play the turn; I'll go ahead and email it to you, Adlain, for simming purposes].

Quick update: Serdoa is able to build Knights now, I've already seen one in Novgorod.
It will make any attack much more difficult; the age of maces is drawing to a close, maybe the attack should in fact wait until Guilds.Oh, and guess who is giving Serdoa the iron needed to build Knights? Meatbalz, again. They must have one heck of a secret deal going on with each other, or something. What does this mean, exactly? Number one, if Meatbalz is willing to give away his only [?] iron, then he probably already has Guilds as well and is building iron-less Camel Archers. Number two, Twinkletoes is almost 100% sure to be Meatbalz's target. ![]() Oh, and look at that, next turn will be Turn 100. ![]() Hopefully I'll have some free time tomorrow to write something up, but no guarantees, because tomorrow is also my birthday. :dancing5:

Your demographics are fascinating. In fact, worthy of another limerick.
An emperor's lover from France Gave her husband one final chance - I want money and goods, Not these tasteless cold foods Let's let cake fuel our advance!
I have to run.
War target, Only Serdoa is a viable target imho,
We have no intel an any player other that him and Cyneheard (and even what we have is sketchy at best) Cyneheard is too strong for us at this stage, he has alot of Civ experiance over us, and tbh im weary of prodding that sleeping tiger. do please start disscussions over a NAP extention NOW!!!, if he goes very quiet or is being plain evasive about it, it will give us 10+ Turns to sort out a defence. If Serdoa has knights, sorry for my addled brain, but how far away are pikemen - that will give him a headache and are not too far away i think......... if we do have any doubt about Cyneheard, its best we hole up and repair those demographs as a priority. Whip out some Markets and build any courthouses not already done then look at Archers (or longbows if/ when available) and get our base defences upgraded to current tech levels. Axis and Canistra im not too worried about losing, i would like to keep them but securing our base island and Iron must be the priority.
