Mardoc Wrote:So, we've accounted for Tatan, GES, and luddite - that just leaves plako, Adlain, and Amelia as possible competition. Does C&D rule any of them out, or should we be talking to them as well?
C&D says none of them have math yet. (At this point, it is still fairly easy to determine when someone gets a classical tech via score increase. And since we only got math a few turns ago, we could use the research bonuses and slider to determine exactly how many people had learned it before we did. Answer: 2 - GES and, I am pretty sure, Tatan. Luddite got it after (if at all).)
Amelia and Adlain are clearly moving too slowly in expansion to profit off of hanging gardens soon enough to stop us. We might want to check with Plako. he's kind of going nuts with wonders, while still expanding plenty. And he could get math later (or have oracled it, haha) and still conceivably beat us to it by building it in the capital and chopping. But I suspect more infrastructure would simply be better for him anyway.
I double-checked with Tatan:
Quote:And to add to that, I've talked with at least two people who specifically said they didn't plan to get Judaism, and no one who said they did. So I suspect your chances aren't bad!
Regarding Hanging Gardens, are you saying you won't try to beat us to them? Just want to be sure.

Quote:Cool, thanks! I should have Monotheism research in ~8 turns, which hopefully won't interfere with your plans for OrgRel.
And yes, I am definitely not going for Hanging Gardens, no worries. I was thinking about going for it after a while if no one else had bothered to build it, but never seriously planned on it.

So I think we are set.
I played the turn which just arrived. Also, I apparently played the previous turn without reporting it. Here are the reports:
Research set to Masonry. Settler and Worker moving towards D. (Crap, do we have a name ready?) Finished a library in Blackwood, which also grew back to 4. I've tentatively started a worker (due in 2) there, as we don't want to waste the overflow from the chop. Contract finished the granary and started growing back, putting its hammers into a library. Alert is still growing. On this last turn, I revolted to Hinduism! Turn after next will be a good one to take screenshots, as we gain our fourth city.

Still reading, not much input at this point.
I believe you were planning on naming the D city Dummy.
I have to run.

Haha, I'm so forgetful.
Though now that I think about it, Double is a fitting name too (since it's on the stone).

I like Double better, actually, given the position; I'll just have to hope that we come back through and can use Dummy on the second pass And, it sounds like it's already time to begin thinking up names for E and F. Don't see a real good one for E, maybe Endplay, but I like Finesse for F.
It won't hurt to also check with plako, but it sounds like the Hanging Gardens plan is a go! It certainly helps that we're first to the tech among those interested in the Gardens.

Depending on the location, Entry may work.

Played the next turn. We finished a farm in Contract, probably start a cottage next. Contract might be able to borrow the wheat from Blackwood next turn while it finishes the worker. As long as the worker completion time isn't affected, I think this is a very good idea.
We also finished masonry. I'm thinking meditation next for a monastery for missionaries; what do you think? More generally I think we should shoot for a really fast bureaucracy, ideally pausing only for fishing and maybe metal casting. That is: Currency/Priesthood/Code of Laws/Civil Service.
Plako got his prophet. I sent him a message:
Quote:Hey Plako, congratulations on your prophet! I really like what you've done so far with the early religion and philosophical prophet points, it's cool.
I was just wondering: do you have any plans to get the hanging gardens? Mardoc and I are interested in that one and I thought I'd check with you, since you appear to be secretly industrious.

How about using elope for E:
Wikipedia Wrote:Elope:
To win a trick by ruffing with a trump lower in rank than an opponent's trump. The Coup en passant is an example of an elopement.
It's a valid term, but would keep people guessing for a while on the scheme.

Nah, since you've already used Contract, the only good choice for a second "D" city would be Duplicate!

Another idea for D: Doubleton. Like Double, but it sounds like a city!
