Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILER] Suryavarman II of Maya - Whosit & Ravus Sol

Yeah. I've pretty much been in 4th place in those categories for... a while now. And the gap in GNP has just been growing. 'Course, Kyan has, like 3x as many cities as I do. I'm not really sure how he affords that and continues to tech. Maybe he's doing what I am, which is running Wealth in half those cities. I dunno.

No new diplo today. At least, not yet.

Whosit, could you please check in in the PBEM 4 tech thread? There's been a problem with the save you sent.

Alright, so as I was playing (turns out I forgot to play on Thursday, even though I thought I had... oops!), I noticed that I have a Great Engineer due in 2 turns. Divine Right is due in 2 turns as well, and I think I might be able to pop my own Religion, which would be nice, though it's probably too late in the game for me to get as much benefit out of it as the others have. I DO want Theocracy, though. Gonna teach GE some lessons or two, after all.

Anyway, I'm considering using the Grt. Engineer (can't call it GE, I guess) on Versailles, but I have no idea where to put it! Since the capital is basically in the middle, anything that's far enough away to matter is butting up against someone else's culture already. The only other wonder I can build that's still available is... Notre Dame, I think. Whatever gives +2 happy everywhere (yeah, I haven't been playing a ton of Civ IV lately), and I really don't have desperate need for more happy.

Not really any other major wonders in the future that haven't already been grabbed.

Gingereagle wanted Open Borders. I said I'd think about it, but I'll probably just end up saying no.

Not sure what else to say at the moment... fairly quiet on the diplo front, sadly.... need to review the deals Kyan offered me to see if there's any I still want to take. Don't necessarily want OB since I don't really need more trade routes, hopefully won't need a religion from him.... Have to see if he made any other offers worth considering.

Notre Dame is 2/3 of an extra draft per city...

Hm... hadn't thought of it that way. Is it worth an Engineer? Maybe moreso than a poorly-placed Versailles....

Popped a Great Artist. >_< Goddamn odds. Might just save him for a Golden Age.

Islam was founded in DropShortALiter, the city by the lake. I guess that's OK. I need to pick up Meditation so I can spread the religion, though. Just want it in key production cities to work with Theocracy when I adopt it.

Two new cities next turn. The one to the east wasn't well-planned for, so I have no workers currently in the area. Building some, though.

I'm pretty much behind on tech, but I may be catching up to some people a little:

I have enough EP on GE to see what he's doing, and he just finished Civil Service. He has Machinery, too, so he'll have Macemen. Hm.

No real diplo lately. I should stir some things up, I guess.

Do you have some techs(besides DR) the others don't have ?

And Kyan's techlist is depressing.

No, I don't think I have anything else that others lack, not that it really matters. Kyan's lead may be greater. I just heard from Gaspar/Nakor that he has Machine Guns now. So, yeah. I think I'm just gonna focus on putting some hurt on GE before the game is over, somehow.... GE is a few turns from Guilds now, so I may have to wait for the next tech bump before I gear up.

*Sigh* Yeah, looks like I am falling into the trap of "delaying vengeance indefinitely." I suppose there's little need to put it off for too much longer, since I'm not going to win this game. I can get Gunpowder soon, though... will see if Cuirassiers are possible, otherwise, I'll just go for Knights + stuff and see what I can do. I have a few Trebs already, and can crank some more out if I decide to basically stop teching (many cities still on wealth).

Got a Great Merchant, Gaspar/Nakor agreed to let me cash it in if I spread Christianity. I agreed, but I'm not gonna go all-out to spread it quickly. Will want to have SOME religion in place for switch to Theocracy. Probably want Nationalism for drafting. Bluh. But I suppose if I cash it in, I can pop my Great Artist for a Golden Age and power through a few key techs and hopefully get in a nice advantageous position of GE and see what chaos I can cause.

Not much more room to settle, though there is some. My army is spread kind of thin as is, so I think I'll work with what I have for now, and plant new cities as I am able to. Got a Sentry Knight, at last, so I'm gonna peek into GE's border city at the lake. He has a city to my southeast that has an Axeman/Spearman pair. His power is fairly high, so I assume he has tougher guys elsewhere.

Huh? How old is your techscreenshot? AFAIK he needs Steel for railroads which requires IW which he lacked in your screenshot.
