[SPOILERS] Bobchillingworth Steals Your Heart

I just finished the second major dungeon and went to the TV station outing and met the detective whose name I've forgotten that totally isn't just a clone of L from Death Note. Only problem is I started the game in January.

I wish I liked this game more than I do, though I do like it. The structure of the game and the way it's meant to be taken one day at a time is the thing that saps my interest the most and means I have to really be in the mood for it. I'd like to know what happens in the story, but I'm 25 hours in, and I know I'm nowhere close and will have to grind through 75 more hours, and I know there's very low chance I'll be willing to do that given I've already stopped playing the game twice for long periods. I enjoy the dungeon crawling and battles, but the fact that it has to be broken up and I have to go back to The Boring Part and do that for awhile first just kills any sense of momentum for me.

It's definitely not all bad though - after all I've played this game quite a bit still. The music, visuals, animations, and overall style are absolutely second to none. It's the coolest looking game I've played in forever. I think anyone who would normally be into this kind of game and is okay with the slightly grindy nature of JRPGs like this will probably love this game to death, because it's the best One Of Those I've seen in a long time. I also noticed my 10 month old is enamored with it because of the combination of music and bright flashy colors, so that counts for something.

Agree mostly with the trait tier list. However, I rank Imperialistic mid-tier at least. It increases your early settling speed which in turn increases the speed of your economic development. You also can get to contested spots faster. I do not think it is actually possible to settle into ruin on Monarch difficulty.

Don't worry, CtH fixed global warming, by commenting it out. If only reality would be that easy to fix.

I'll be honest, the music and bright, flashy colors are like 90% of why I like it too. That said, though it's something of a cliche for JRPGs, the game does get better as you go along and put together the full team and get to know the NPC "confidants", plus some of the later dungeons are really fun.

Changing tracks, I'm almost tempted to go Huyanna first with this start to take advantage of all the coast and rivers and try to land the Colossus, but I'm torn between going a combo which sounds very strong but boring vs. one which is reasonably strong and interesting.

I have definitely heard that the various confidants and team members you add get progressively more interesting. I can see signs of the story becoming more interesting too, so I won't quite give up on it yet.

Grr, that sneaky Lewwyn picked Spain (likely saving me from myself), so POWER COMBO it is.

Hannibal of the Maya sounds fun, with insane happiness from half-price Ball Courts + other Charismatic bonuses, and still very powerful Financial. Starting with Myst means I might still be able to swing a religion, albeit not as my first tech, and the new Holkan might be fun for upgrade purposes.

For what it's worth, I'll be cheering you on Bob, although I've had to go global - there was no way I could afford to let Gaspar/Noble's thread build up and then have to binge read it at the end.

Good luck, and try to have fun. Although that match-fit Rusten/Hitru team means that this game is probably serious business ...

Thanks! I'd lurk their thread too if I could, though I look forward to reading about myself there later.

Unstated but evident in your post is the concern that I'm going to get frustrated and burn out when things inevitably turn against me; not at all an unreasonable assumption, but my workaround will be to derive enjoyment from making the game a living hell for anyone with the temerity to attempt to cripple me without having the decency to outright eliminate my civ.
