Oh... I wanted to show a screenie of what I have discovered after playing T3 (gold, sheep, too far away...) but I forgot to take it. I'll show it next turn.
I also am certain now that we all have the exact same start. Seeing the picks I already suspected it but - aside AT - we all have the same tile yields, the same amount of land tiles in our borders, the same life expectancy - except SD, being EXP. That is interesting as it means AT is the only one who saw that start and decided to stay in place, working now the plains hill tile over the deer. He did have his border pop though (CRE), so I expect to see that yield changed this turn. I'm not sure if I'm happy that so many decided to not settle in place - giving credence to my own choice - or if it means that only AT found a better way to utilize this start. I guess the next 30 turns will tell us more.
Apart from that I am still a little at loss what to do with the start. My strategy revolves around expanding fast, but for that there have to be good city-sites to expand to, else the new cities will be too much of a drain on the economy. I should have known that the one game I pick IMP is the game where it is weakened by the map itself
Oh, for those that might be interested how I did deduce the tile yields of my opponents, on the example of Food:
Best: 5
Average: 4
Lowest: 2
My yield: 5
My rank: 3rd
I'm 4th in order, with Ruff and Jowy being behind me. Which in the case of a tie makes them be in front of me on the Demos. Therefore they both have to have 5 yield as well. If I set my yield down to 4 (by working a grassland forest) I'm suddenly 5th. Two players jumped me - but only those that in the case of a tie would sorted behind me are left, which means 4 is less than they have, so there are two more players with 5 yield. That leaves just one with 2.
That AT is the one with 2 is than a backwards deduction. Seeing that we all have the same yields except one player and there is only one player that settled T0... well, you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes for that one.

Ok, update after 7 turns played. First, scouting and land:
There i a gold, but in an awkward position. Two stone, but even farther away. I don't really see me expanding over there anytime soon, even though the gold would be a big boost. But the east so far isn't really looking very promising either. The fish doesn't help as I won't have Fishing for at least the first 2 cities I settle. The deer can't be shared with the capital in a good way either I think, as the possible spots are littered with peaks. I could settle on the desert between all the peaks, but that looks like a shit settling spot right now. Of course, there might be something in the fog, but even then, I am not CRE, so I would have to get a monument to even get whatever is in the fog in my reach.
Ok, so a possible spot for a good city would be 1SW of the sheep, getting gold, sheep, cow, wine and silk in its BFC. If I settle there another city could be 1E of the wine and one 1S of the wheat. Another one 1NW of the whales if there is any food up there. Hm...
Btw: How does trade work, I always forget. Do I need Sailing to have a trade network between my cities via lake / coast / river? Do all tiles on the connection need to be defogged?

Separate from the above, C&D:
AT got a score increase EOT5: Hunting, as he also gained 2000 soldier points
Ruff got a score increase EOT6: Hunting, as he also gained 2000 soldier points
Jowy and SD both research a first column tech, in both cases I assume Mining as they do have Hunting already, Agri would be finished by now. I assume it could be Fishing as well, we should know as soon as they get their score increase and we see if that coincides with a soldier point increase.
Tarkeel researches a tech in the 2nd column, most likely BW, maybe AH (but BW is much more likely).
AT is researching a tech in the 2nd column as well, again most likely BW, though AH is a possibility if he improves the deer first and than backtracks with his worker.
Ruff I'll have to wait. He can have 18 or 20 GNP right now, I am not able to tell the difference as I can't increase my own above 18 and he will be sorted in front of me in both cases AND him having 18 or 20 would not change the average (18 to 18.4, which would get rounded down).
Everyone works the 3/1 deer tile by now, AT changed to it as soon as his borders popped.
And that is is as far as C&D goes.

About trade: You do not need Sailing as long as all the necessary tiles are in your culture.
So with the first pop of the capitol all of these cities would have trade
1N whale
2W of whale
2W1N of whale
3W of whale would not get trade because of the missing culture 1W of whale

Thank you Charriu.
I've discussed with Noble a little bit about a potential settling strategy and we both tend to believe that I will have to deviate from my initial plan, which was getting a settler by T21. There simply is no good spot to settle without Fishing as far as I can see right now. Unfortunately I will not have my scout to uncover more of the tiles as I intend to let him go further to meet others. I will have to make a decision before my warrior can scout those tiles in the north, that might hold something juicy - but probably don't.
In other news, further west is tundra and even ice... I'll try to present a map that is readable with the next update, but I have to head to bed and had no time today for that.

I didn't update C&D for the last turn(s) but Jowy and SD got their tech. While SD did indeed as assumed research Mining it seems that Jowy got Fishing (no soldier point increase besides his 1000 points for the second pop)
I'll play the new turn now and maybe can post a screenshot afterwards, depending on PBEM78 and PB56.

With some time, I stitched the map (it is big, sorry, I've put it in a spoiler).
And that is Jowy up there whom I found as my neighbour. 22 tiles between caps if counting diagonals as 1 as well. That is... quite some space.
