Yeah it's a bit closer than I'd expected too, but I'm getting used to having misjudged the space available on a map! And it's probably a bit early to completely judge space before seeing a bit more - there's definitely more space between us out West, and the North is looking to be islands, so space in the backlines.*
*Although all coastal cities are going to need a real garrison earlier than usual with Nauf's Carracks running about at some point.
I've not much knowledge of Giraflorens as a player; they're in the latest greens game PB79, but I'm dedlurking Coldrain whose across the other side of the map. Here they're playing Qin of India, the only INDustrious leader on either island, which coupled with the Marble makes me wonder about targeting them early and then going on a wonder spree myself <insert request for someone to slap me>. Especially if we compare with the other likely members of Low PRO island, greenline & especially xist and the AGG Vultures.
One game I look forward to not starting next to Sumeria it was high on my pick list for this game just for that reason, but since it's one of the most broken civs it never made it down to the wheel.

T006 - Gold damn it!
So others get Gold and I get Gems; this feels ... familiar?
Cut off a bit too much of the East here, but will head SE-SE next turn then turn back Northwards.

T007 - Small change of plan.
That looks like water to the S of the Lion. Also the Gold.

T008 - Huh?
Wide view for this one:
So that's confirmed this area to be a strip of land. With 4 on this continent, right now it's hard to see how we will all have access to each other so no-one has just 1 neighbour. Ah well, limited value in speculation without more exploring! With animals out, I think I'm going to play it safe next turn and move E-N and stay in forest cover rather than march the Scout out to the flatland N-NE. I have ~10t before I need to make a decision on Worker priorities, which is plenty of time to get the Scout back to the Gems even at 1t per turn.
Current options for second city location are: 1) somewhere down the river valley towards Gira, or 2) N or 2N of the Gems. I'm leaning towards the latter since GB has 5 tiles that I want to be working all the time, which would mean limited whipping unless I trade some off to another city. If there's a second food resource in range of the Gems, then I'll be fully sold on it.

T011 - oh we are clo-ose!
greenline's Scout is standing on the marked tile. I was trying to think about distance moved, etc. but then noticed the tiniest sliver of borders under the fog...

T012 -
I'm pretty sure this is a different Lion:
Oooo, jungle Rice; it's as if the mapmaker really wants us to go for an early Iron Working. Scout is going to be bogged down getting through that foliage, but it's all good intel.
Greenline's EP are split which means he's contacted someone else. I can only see his Agri/Hunting, so likely he took Fishing or Mining as 3rd tech. Elsewhere, at least one player grew to size 2 on their seafood before starting the Worker. It's not something I'd looked at, but might be a good option for someone not doing a questionable Pottery open, who needs a bit more time to tech AH.

T013 - why did I vote for Barbs again...?
Greenline's Scout met the Lion, but walked away with 0.3hp. I need to dodge that Panther for another turn to get the Hunting bonus: it looks like the tile NNE has no forest or jungle, so E-NE should be the play to find out more about that river.

T015 - Really!?
Scout took a Wolf to the face on this turn roll but kept on trucking at 0.8/1HP.
Oh bloody hell:
OK that looks like a mountain range directly between us which is something I guess?
Closeness means I'm definitely going to have to rethink my approach here; securing territory becomes more important.

Suddenly I am getting paranoid about being Chariot-rushed, but surely Tarkeel wouldn't do that to me ... again?
