Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Good News Everyone! Dreylin hasn't a PB83 clue.

Well since you asked - what does 'soon' mean? Current tech / cities, current tech + settled dots, one tech away from current (and if so, which)?

All excellent questions and I probably should give that some thought! tongue

Part of it is that pindicator's power has been running a chunk higher than mine for a while and I wonder if maybe he's going to have a go first - OTOH, I just passed an unsettled Copper outside his western border and I'm wondering about that choice - of course it could be he went Iron Working first and doesn't need it. Anyway, his horses are hooked up so I've had my Archer at the choke point keeping an eye. One of the benefits of minimal backlines (yay) is not having to defog as much.

Al that rambling aside, probably this tech or one more. I'd like to settle the the "halfway" pink dot and push from there. Zoidberg will overflow the Library to finish an Axe next turn and then start on a Stable. Farnsworth finishes its own Barracks and then Spear and then maybe builds the Settler for Pink?

Yeah, a bit seat of the pants, but we'll see how it goes.

I finally defogged a trade route around to pindicator:

You can see his Copper here on the West - it's actually outside 3rd ring borders from his capital, so he'll have to settle to grab it. It's likely he went IW first and has settled for Iron instead - I'll keep an eye on his resources.

This feels like a NAP request rather than an actual trade, doesn't it? It does, and I don't accept.

Here's another new city right on our "border". Fair enough probably if I have any way to expand other than through him, but I don't and so I think I do have to take a look and check:

Note the HBR power pop and why he is interested in a NAP. Also note that this city is on flatland.

I offered him a 10t peace; it'd probably take me that long to get something going. Probably shouldn't have given him the warning, but I still think it was worth the look.*

(* I reserve the right to swear if he has a Chariot sitting behind the city and snipes the Archer, but at least I have a Spear due to complete end of next turn already.)

Decided I'm going to settle another city towards pindicator before going all-in. Also forgot to road my Horses and can't build mounted unit yet. duh

Pindicator wants peace.

Well that was lucky!

T100 - falls off chair.

I feel slightly guilty for not reporting on this game, but I got a new job around the time I discovered I was boxed in a corner - which was the last thing I wanted after PB81 - and it confluenced into me not being really interested in the game and mostly going through the motions.

Sorry, Pindicator. frown

By way of update, here's an army:

We have not had a serious clash yet, and I don't know if he'll push onwards or just sit the army where it is. No peace offer has been issued by either side yet.

Sorry you got stuck on a peninsula there. I think you did the right play with the numids rush, and you might have had a chance to attack in at one point (but I didn't do any sims, just remember being worried that the city would fall). I'm not sure if the swords were right for you or not- good to have diversity for big stacks, but otoh you wanted to get a fast attack in.

I’ve only just read the Lurker thread and now I see that I got the best of the 3 screwed peninsula starts, so I guess that’s good maybe?

There were a couple of turns where I nearly committed - and probably should have tried my luck given my general opinion of my position, but I never felt the odds were /quite/ good enough that it wouldn’t look like I was just throwing my game away. What I wanted was a 40-50% shot, but don’t think I ever saw anything better than 1 in 3.
