Whoa, lookit what the cat dragged in. lol

Actually, Trip might fit in around here. We tend to have opinions and not to be shy about sharing them, so... I guess I will have to second Griselda's welcome. :aar:

Seems I may have arrived a bit late to the party. wink

Though it's nice to finally see a forum with dark colors by default... My eyes are grateful. :D

Why do some of the possible human exploits contribute to the eternal damnation of the game?

I mean, for instance, you can turn off 'Preserve Random Seed' and re-load for better combat or hut results... and yet we do not. For that matter, a 100% commitment to military builds is generally going to speedily win... and yet we do not.

So, if in any build of Civ3 the various developers got something wrong, just adapt in your own practices, and it still is the best game of which I know.

Trip - yes, that is indeed the very picture I was thinking of when I typed that comment, you had it posted in one of the forums during the beta test. smile I will certainly go back and update this editorial on my website to give you credit. I would also love to include that picture, so long as you don't mind (it rather graphically indicates the problem with lethal land bombardment in Conquests).

While i technically own this game my neighbor is borrowing it permanently. I l didnt care enough to ask for it back after playing it a few times. I must admit that i never even entered the industrial ages in the few games I played, but i was not enjoying the game at all. I figured whats the point in continuing bc a game is supposed to be fun, and this isnt. Now on to my arguments: I agree with Sulla, the MDI's are a huge problem and I also stopped playing PTW because of those. You can build a continous flow of those units(starting with warriors if you have the cash), and they are really cheap (basically 1/2 the shield price of a knight). Even if you are hopelessly behind in tech its OK, i've taken out size 12 cities with rifles in them with stacks of these. If these horrible units had to be included they should be alot more expensive shieldwise at least (I cant remember the upgrade cost in gold, but I def remember them being way too cheap @ 40 shields) So since I was unaware of any patches I just continued having a great deal of fun with 1.07f! lol

The other problem i had was briefly touched on by Sulla. Namely those new resources. Im definetly glad they didnt become luxuries, but i still have problems with them. Its just soo....cluttered I guess. For one thing I don't like bananas. If I am going to settle in a jungle I am giving up early growth for the fact that jungles are resource rich. This may not be so critical a part of the game, it is still an important choice that is taken away when banas are present. Now you can have your growth back, and where there is a banana there is clearly not going to be a source of coal or rubber (thats pretty obvios but im in full rant mode here, with noone else to tell these things to wink ). And the other 2 resources (tobacco and sugar if i remember right)
who needs them? I guess Sulla and the rest of you guys were right, they were clearly add-ons to get more people to buy the game. I really dont see them as usefull.

Looks like im going to have to reinstall these expansions to play the epics though, so hopefully you guys have come up with a good way to eliminate all of these problems.
