Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Seven Isabellas of India

Not much new information, just hitting end turn for the most part and playing as planned for the rest, sitting on the 3 food sheep with the warrior.

Big news is that the barbarians did not in fact start with archery or 10 hammers, so the guy who popped out as I retreat my warrior was an enemy warrior. That'll be annoying; it means they are likely to invade my territory, which is actually a bit dangerous.

It was possible for me to combat the warrior possibility by hanging around to build up a fortify bonus, but I'd rather not take such a big risk (of losing a warrior and promoting a barb) so early; losing that battle would set me back a lot.

Everything still going exactly as planned.

After growing to size 2, working the just-completed fur camp for one turn finished Bronze Working immediately.

I'm really loving the Fast Worker so far. One turn gained on the deer camp, one turn on the fur camp (and thus 1 turn on bronze), and then one extra turn on finishing the copper mine, too! (It popped 1N of the city, as expected.)

Next build is a third warrior (unfortunately prudent given the possibility of a 2-barb invasion) while growing and researching the wheel. The Worker mines the copper, then chops a forest into the end of the worker. Turn after that, wheel completes and both workers road the mine. The axe reaches the barb city a few turns later.

After that, I'm researching fishing + sailing, but I need to decide pretty soon if I'm going for a galley + settler or the GLH. Since no one's industrious (wish I was Bismarck at this point :/), fast workers may be the edge I need to claim it. But I wonder if someone going more directly for it (without chopping out an axe, or starting with mysticism) can get it first. Anyone know a good (non-spoilerish) target date?

T50ish is a competitive date for quick speed. smile

(I had other stupid questions in here, but figured out the answers myself).

My sim gets it EOT 53 (52 if I chop one of my resource forests too). Hopefully that's solid for it given that this is normal, not quick.

Actually, EOT 50 if I use a second slave and forgo working the seafood.

Since I'm strongly considering a GLH run, I figured I (unfortunately) needed to figure out the demographics. Here's what I believe has happened techwise so far:

Jowy (Rome) started with Fishing/Mining and researched Hunting on t8 (delayed by indecision or subterfuge). Probably working on BW now. If so, he gets it next turn I think.

Nakor (Byzantium) started with Wheel/Mysticism, got hunting on t5, Mining on t13, and now appears to be working on a tech with 2 prereqs. Could he seriously be getting Masonry???

Reverend (Babylon) started with Wheel/Agriculture and got Hunting t5 and Archery t12. He's working on AH now (definitely a double prereq tech).

Athlete (Vikings) started with Fishing/Hunting and got Mining on t7. I also expect him to be on BW (there's no other explanation for Mining).

Just thought of one possible reason Nakor could go Masonry - maybe he was too cautious to scout past the barb city and doesn't know he's on an island, and thus thinks the Great Wall is good. Still very implausible but I have no other explanation for the GNP average, so we'll just have to see.

Also have to keep in mind that there can be events (notably +1C for Oasis) though I don't know any +2C events, which is what would be necessary for the GNPs to work out.

Sent a warrior S to scout the barbs, as if they built a warrior it would be finished now. It's a warrior. frown

This means:

1) They are spamming warriors instead of making a barracks - irritating. I think if they'd built a barracks there would be a chance of capturing it.
2) Two warriors will probably attack me. Very irritating. Unfortunately there is no great place to engage them. 3 warriors won't always beat 2 in the open, and if I hide in the (southern) forest they have the ability to just run by. I still think the forest is the best place to defend from, as if it comes down to their wounded guy vs mine, at least my guy will have some cover.

As my build is very tight and the copper gets connected ASAP, every warrior I lose now is one axe/spear I'll have to build later.

In C&D news, I believe Jowy finished BW on t20, and is now working on a no-prereq tech. Athlete finished BW this turn (21).

I haven't checked Nakor's thread, but maybe he's creative and you've forgotten to account for culture?
