Yeah, I understand axe vs vulture now. Each unit's melee bonus cancels additively (or subtractively if you like.) So you're left with 25% in the axe's favor. That's true whichever unit is the attacking one. 6 < 5 + 25%, or 6 - 25% < 5. And it's exactly the same if both have Shock since that also cancels additively.

Thanks Kyan, for the map and pic!
However, no water in sight . Oh well. Warrior-wise, I should move onto one of those hills for better sight on the area; based on the tile-bleeded forests to the south I will move on to the eastern hill. Scouting-wise I plan to do a rough circle around my capitol [rather than a random beeline] for three reasons:
1. Huts are off.
2. I'm going worker first.
3. Without tech trading early contact isn't as important.
So I would rather scout my surroundings for future city sites.
With pig and sheep as food, obvious first tech is Animal Husbandry, which I can research right away due to starting with Agriculture. Second tech will probably be hunting for that fur tile, and then the Mining/Bronze Working line after that. Beyond that, I'll have to wait and see.

So, once again, this was the start:
I moved the warrior onto the sheep tile and revealed this:
DOUBLE WHEAT! Well, I think you can guess where I'm settling now.
![[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg]](http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy257/Tatan42/Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg)
Quadruple food AND a fur. Oh, and notice: water to my southeast and southwest! :2dance: From the way it curves down it looks like my immediate south is either a peninsula or a landbridge. Also, there appears to be some sort of island to the southwest. And it appears I am not alone in moving, as I go last but three others still haven't settled yet!
I name my special starting warrior as per my naming theme.
Kudos to anyone who figures it out. [And no googing ]
Plus, it appears Kyan forgot to refog my previous start:
HOLY SMOKING-COWS! Why couldn't I have started there?
Game settings:
The weird things here are Large Map Size [!] and High Sea Level [ ]; perhaps there will be large seas, or possible a New World. If so, East Indiamen rule the waves!
Demographics time! Disclaimer: this man knows nothing about demographics analysis and is most assuredly incorrect.
Well, as you can clearly see from the land area count, um... there is, uh... Okay, screw it, I have no idea how to do Demographics and no will to learn.
And so concludes Turn 0.

That's what I get for not lurking all the new PBEMs. Although IMO Whiskeyjack should be a Great General, not a simple warrior :neenernee.
Well, how about this: while you name stuff after those dirty Malazans, I will name stuff after the glorious free cities of Genabackis! FREEDOM!

Don't feel forced to change your naming theme because of me hehe.. they're good books, and this'll help spread the word.

Well, I finally played Turn 1. I'll post a turn report tomorrow, hopefully.

In accordance with my new naming theme [ ], my warrior is named Kruppe, and Darujhistan is founded [yes, I spelled it wrong in the pic].
A magnificent city site, Kruppe proclaims! It will have a total of 1 grassland hill sheep, 1 flat grassland piggy, 2 non-irrigated flat plains wheats, 1 flat plains ivory, 1 flat forested river grassland fur, 1 flat river plains, 3 flat forested river plains, 1 flat forested river grassland, 1 flat forested plains, 1 grassland hill, 4 flat plains, and 3 flat grasslands. Having only one mineable hill, Darujhistan will have to rely on those forests for early term production. It will make a fantastic commerce-oriented Bureaucracy capital, however; even those plains should be able to be cottaged with all those food bonuses [especially once I irrigate those wheats].
Also note:
It appears that the offshore island will be a jungle paradise. I shall consider putting my second/third city on the coast to get an early leap on exploring/colonizing [and building the Great Lighthouse, if applicable].
On Turn 2, the only thing worthy of note is Kruppe's scouting info:
Ooo, a plains incense will be a pretty good commerce tile to work once I get Calendar.

Kruppe continues his march through the surrounding lands...
Hmmm, a definate contender for a second city! With those hills it would have plenty of production and those forests could chop out the Great Lighthouse...
The area Kruppe approaches appear to be a peninsula:
Darujhistan's borders popped at the end of turn [arg I forgot to change the name again]:
So I WAS right, that island looks beautiful and bounteous ! Depending on my surrounding land [which looks awfully plains-y], I may want to put my 3rd/4th/5th city by those gems. 1SE of the gems would pick of those pigs, the gems themselves, and a fish 1SE of the pigs that you can't see in the screen shot, but I will have to wait to see the surrounding terrain.
Map Thoughts: This is a pretty puzzling set-up. Kyan almost assuredly made it by hand, as some of the features look too... artificial [everything is in a straight line]. Perhaps he stranded me on an island, with the goal of eventual migration to the middle, a la PB2 but only more-so. If that is the case, the Great Lighthouse will be fantastic, and I may be able to land it if I put my 2nd city on the coast [I assuming that all the caps are inland; of course, some one could have moved]. Of course, this will mean no going for any other early wonders, because one will already stunt my growth enough. But it would be worth it for the GL because the trade routes would help my development greatly later on, and because the city sites I would be slow to get don't look so hot anyway [except for that beautiful, beautiful gems spot].
I think that the west/east sections of my island may be somewhat symmetrical [they do so far, at least], disregarding actual terrain. There certainly appears to be plenty of water on each side; looks like my risky Dutch pick might work out after all . Now, all I have to do is get to the Renaissance! That'll be easy-peasy, right?!
Question to anyone reading this thread:
How are my reports? Is there anything you want me to be doing differently? This is my first reporting thread, so any tips would be appreciated.
