[SPOILERS] Adlain Whistling in the dark with Hammurabi of the English

zakalwe Wrote:So you traded one food/hammer into the worker for one commerce? Was that worthwhile? (Definitely not if it delayed the worker by one turn, and you do have a screenshot showing the worker due in 6T).

People generally value food and hammers over commerce in the early game so this move seemed strange to me.

It does delay the worker by 1 turn, but if i have my numbers right (if not its is pure smoke i agree) then i will complete the farm on the corn on the turn BW is reserched instead of a turn before like i was on my last runthrough in a WB test game thus allowing my to move streight to the copper if available or start another plan of action withuot waisting a turn of worker movment.

Saying that, im sure its still probably a smoke move, but hell, it was a spur of the moment move late at night and it seemed a good idea at the time smile

Heh, are you saying that completing the corn farm one turn later is an advantage? I don't mean to rub it in but you definitely made a mistake if that was your reasoning. You could just have used the idle turn before BW comes in to partially farm another tile or to move into position to chop a forest. By delaying the farm you're just missing out on the improved tile yield for one turn (so you lose another 2 food).

Anyway, live and learn. alright Keep those reports coming, and good luck! smile

Well, the next turn has been played, Screen shots later, but i am now sure of atleast 1 aspect of that crude map idea is correct, and will hopefully confirm nxt turn with my warrior, that we are indeed on identical islands in shape atleast. Agriculture is in, Started BW (9T), and after looking at things properly during the break in the game, I have definatly Fecked up on the whole Worker/ Research/ Tile assignment thinking last turn.

Yea im a noob and a smoke'er the more i think about it, but whats done is done, and it did seem like a good idea at the time, but i think all i have managed is to delay evrything by 1T, not just the worker cry.

And dont worry about rubbing it in, its proberbly the only way i will learn :neenerneelol

Well i have been neglecting all you Lurkers out there. My Apoligies.

You all, i am sure, have had plenty of time to post lots of loverly "you Noob" and "WFT you doing you idiot" posts in the Lurker thread about my play already, but hopefuly as the game goes on my play will improve smile

Now, We are on Turn 7, my Worker is due in 4T and Bronze working in 7T. here is the world as i know it pic:

I am sure we are all inhabiting Equal sized islands connected by these plain railroads. I am torn between Scouting out my onwn island or the one to the East. not made my decision yet but i will do by next turn as i will have to make a choice because my scout can ether
Option A: continue 10E, then the following turn 1SE, 1S, 1SE and possably east again depending on movment and start scouting the East island (by my estimate 3T from contact or 9Tiles west of a capital city)
Option B: Move 2E, 2NE, NW and start scouting my island from the opisite side to my warrior who can then return home and guard the Capital.

Im unsure as to the correct decision to make.

T8 has been and gone, Decided to scout my own island, see what i have in regards to settling uncontested and worry about the other islands once i know what i have.

As such, my Scout moved 2E, 2NE and 1NW.
on reflection i should have continued up the path afew more tiles before heading back to make full use of the rail, but chalk up some more smoke in my direction.

I have however found clams, so its not all bad

Warrior continued NE, Will go NE, NE, then Head SE, SE, SE, SE, E and fortify in Capital

And finally Demographs:

Ok, The Game has finally started moving again, had alittle firther cmmunication with Plako:

Adlain Wrote:Hi Plako,

My Appoligies for the late reply to your message, i have been unwell over christmas (and still feeling ill, but better than i was) and not able to use my PC.

You are the first Person i have met, If i may ask, What direction is GES` s Scout and how long ago did you meet him??

Whats your take on this map, I agree the sperate ispands that i have seen are looking very identical, hand drawn im sure and should produce some intresting senarios as the game progresses.

I hope you had/ Have a far better Christmas than i have managed and all the best for the New Year.

Adlain.

Plako Wrote:Hi,

I met GES NE from me. The meeting occured some 4 turns ago.

This is indeed some strange map. It must be quite large and the distances between the "islands" are big, but railroads bring everyone quite a bit closer.

Happy holidays,
Plako

Not alot said, although it gives me an idea as to how far away is GES (i.e. not that far)

anyways, heres what happened this turn, I Moved my scout North and found some more Clams, With a river, some hills, alittle Forrest to chop aswell - its fair to say im liking that spot for a city.

as for my warroir, he is heading home, With plako already finding me, and i know now that GES is around nearby aswell, i want my warrior home asap.
He will head NE, then 4SE then East and Home. but he has also found a riverside Wheat, coupled with the silver is looking like a posable 2nd City around there. For what it is worth, ill be making a dot-map soon to help me judge where i am going to put my cities.
On another note, i think i have decided on a naming theame i am going to use, i will be quite supprised if somebody doesnt get it quite quickly, but i aim to have it set up and running next turn.

Adlain

EDIT: Forgot the Demographs:

Im Thinking Pink, then Orange then Blue ATM.

Pink Dot: has Silver and Wheat in 1st Ring, im undecided over moving it 1W to get rid of the peaks and add some GL River Tiles, a no-brainer but for thinking ahead and wondering if i will want those tiles for another city to the east in the future.

Orange Dot: 2 Clams, 6River GL tiles and atleast 2 River GL Hill Tiles and forrest for a early monument chop. nice safe city location.

Blue Dot: 13 River GL Tiles, 3 River GL Hills, Marble, Bannans and Irrigated Rice. Ideal 2nd City if it wasnt for the Jungle (thank you again for that Ruff smile) as soon as IW is looking like it is near completion, expect a Settler to be heading out for this spot.

Cyan and Green are just thoughts ATM - Debate about them to you hearts content.

Just have a very Plesent chat with Plako, the main point being that we have a 50T NAP that has the Restrictions of:
  • No Decloration of war within the Time Frame stated (up until and inc T60), and if we end up sharing a boarder not to allow any Enemy Units to use eachothers land as a staging point for an attack

heres the Diplo Dump:
plako Wrote:Hi,

I hope you're feeling better. It was indeed nice to see turn rolling again. I hope we could reach a steady turn per day now after the holidays.

Are you intrested in negotiating some early deals? e.g. NAP and maybe state something about the railroads between our islands e.g. concerning settling. If you see me on gmail please don't hesitate to open chat, if you want to discuss.

plako
Quote:me: Good Evening Plako smile
Plako: Hi
<snip>
Plako: better concentrate on PBEM11
me: lol - no worries, but i agree we should concentraite on PBEM11
So, you are intrested in a NAP aggreement of some discription
Oh, and i am feeling better now thanks for asking in your Email smile

Plako: yes. I think this setup favors builder game, but we could agree about something e.g. T60
me: T60 sounds ok with me, Although i would like to clarify what a NAP actually does
Plako: For me main point is just to avoid worker steals and such
I doubt we start to settle the railroads between us during that time frame

me: I am taking a NAP to be: No Decloration of war within the Time Frame stated, and if we end up sharing a boarder not to allow any Enemy Units to use eachothers land as a staging point for an attack
Plako: I'm alright with these
me: Ok then, a NAP to T60 is agreeable to me, if that is your offer smile
Plako: We've a deal then
me: and i promise not to steal your workers for the duration wink
Plako: wink great
me: As for the railroads, i agree with you that it is doubtful we will be settling on railroads in the forseeable future, however what did you have in mind??
Plako: Just saying that NAP could be used for agressive settling, but this setup makes that quite unfavourable
so we donät need specific deals

me: and unprofitable tbh, the Distance involved and the land quality makes it a not too inviting idea at this stage when we all have far better options to think about.
So, is there anything else you would like to talk about??

Plako: I think I'm fine now, but whenever you like we can continue
Or if you've soething to discuss
I'm all ears

me: We could start guessing what kind of map Krill is going to throw at us in PB4 tongue
Plako: Careful - No contact yet wink
me: T-Hawk is aking you a Question in PBEM 10 about reseting passwords (http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...post103180)
Plako: I'll check that thanks
me: np - Ok then, i think we will leave that there. I have not received the Save yet, if i get it before 10:30-11pm tonight ill get it along to you
It was nice to chat to you though Plako smile - First time using Gmail Chat aswell for me (not that it differs from most Chat programs but there you are)

Plako: ok. Great. Sleping time soon forme
