Running out to church now so no time to analyze... turns are going pretty quick for a 5 person PBEM!
Always nice to have one of the early happiness resources. You could make a crazy good city 1E of the southern cows getting cows, 2 crabs and furs (which are in plains forest, certainly a bonus). Or you could squeeze two cities, like one 2E of the cows and the other in the plains hill 1SW of the cows.

Turn 3 has been played as well. There was a bit of rush to get it done right away so that mh can get another turn in before he leaves (gone till Wednesday). Fortunately, I was able to squeeze it in over lunch. There's nothing really essential in this picture except that we see that Serdoa and mostly harmless had their score go up by 6. I am looking for an article at CFC about scoring mechanics so I can update my C&D spreadsheet but haven't found one yet. Anyone know where it is? Demos:
I seem to have found it:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.p...stcount=82 Which says a tech is 6 points, which fits for the two of them. So I need to determine what techs Serdoa and mh could have completed in three turns, which would be a lot easier to do if I had a Civ playable PC available so I could just look at beaker costs. What I think I know already is that they could only be getting 10 bpt plus the 1 free beaker (is that right?). Hopefully I'll have time to look into this tonight.
Your map is Quick/Standard/Monarch
That's 0.67*1.3*1.15 = 1.001, so the base beaker costs for a tech should be precisely correct (40: Hunting/Fishing; 50: Mining/Myst; 60: Wheel/Agri for the starting techs) Cyneheard Wrote:Your map is Quick/Standard/Monarch Thanks Cyneheard! Also, I was incorrect in my last post. They had four turns or research because whatever they did on turn 4 would have shown up before it got to me. Meaning they probably went fishing. Still need to check when I have civ access.
So, if I'm not mistaken, here's how it goes:
Serdoa - 16000 of land area - coastal capital. mostly_harmless - 14000 of land area - coastal capital Krill - 21000 of land area - inland capital Scooter - 7000 of land area - he settled on turn 2, coastal capital -> mh and serdoa probably went fishing. Scooter already has fishing, so he doesn't need to go for it, despite having a coastal capital.
Sorry my posting has been sparse. Sister-in-law is visiting and she's staying in the computer room/office since our guest room was turned into the nursery!
I played turn 4 and 5 just arrived in my mailbox. Since I'm at work I can only post the pics I already have on dropbox. Quote:-> mh and serdoa probably went fishing. Scooter already has fishing, so he doesn't need to go for it, despite having a coastal capital. mh started with fishing so he must have gone for something different. Presumably he is growing because he's building a workboat first. Based on GNP demos, I'm guessing that mh grew and is working a coastal resource which would also give him 7 crop yield. Serdoa most surely went Fishing first. It doesn't make sense to move to the coast but not take advantage of it ASAP. Also, someone has a crop yield of 2!!! That means they are working a zero food tile, correct? No reason to know this but I'm guessing krill moved to the coast, starting building a WB and is working the plains hill he started on to get the WB out ASAP. I need to do a test of how long that would take to build and then grow so I can confirm that was/is his build. I think it is the most reasonable explanation. Also, since I just got mining, I get 2000 more soldier points. Not a huge deal but good in the sense that the more soldier points I get before meeting someone (assumign they aren't doing close C&D), the less certain they will be about my army strength. Ichabod Wrote:Krill - 21000 of land area - inland capital Are we certain about this? It would blow my theory.
I'm pretty sure about m_h (since he's the only other creative civ - turn 1 demo has 14000 of land area as best rival) and Serdoa (16000 on turn 2 demo).
So I'm guessing Krill goes after you in the turn order and that he settled on turn 0. So that gives the 21000 land area in the turn 3 screenshot (he only popped his borders after you). The same thing would work if he plays before you and settled on turn 1. Scooter was the only one without border pops on turn 3 demo. According to turn 4 demo, now he has a 17000 land area, so it's a coastal capital with 4 water tiles. But I'm not good at C&D so I can be wrong. Edit: The 2 crop yield can be serdoa working a plains hill for a fast expansive worker too. Edit 2: Well, it's not serdoa. It is krill or scooter, since the change happened between turn 3 and 4 from the demo. It must be the person who was last on the capital border pop, who switched to a tile in the second ring (unless someone changed his mind for other reason, which is unlikely). From the info I gathered, it's scooter, but it wouldn't make much sense... Argh, I think I'm not helping you with all this doubts! |
