PBEM 24 Thread for Gifted Lurkers

Player 1: if you dont agree i am sure we can find something else..

Player 2: there's really no choice here.

I accept that people sometimes forget they have the power to propose counteroffers, but I mean jeez, he specifically SAID that there were plenty of other possibilities. I don't have any sympathy for Gaspar complaining about people signing retarded long NAPs after this.

This city is just a kick in the nuts for Gaspar:

I don't think he'll be too happy with his NAP when he spots this city.
I have to run.

Nicolae Carpathia Wrote:So, conflict is probably going to come down to Commodore vs TT and Gaspar vs Mackoti. Between CRE, starting techs and the skill level, I entirely expect Mackoti to plonk a plains hill front city with 2 plains sheep, 2 dry rice, and gold there so he can culturally dominate the entire area. Dunno if the dry rice is deliberate, it's quite hard to irrigate them. Same with the horizontals, I can see someone planting on the hill and again dominating the area.

I mean, I like the conflict over the middle regions, but it seems awfully unstable and it's going to collapse to a lower energy state of one or two people owning them all. Let's see how this plays out.

Agreed, if there was any doubt that Mack would win this game. This deal assures it. I see a future in which he expands with absolute impunity, crushes TT, and consolidates his land edge into a massive tech lead.

Double post, but I couldn't resist this little gem from Gaspar's thread:

I'm waiting for the penny to drop when Gaspar sees Chichen Itza.

The map works better when people are actually able to fight over the obvious strategic hold points, I promise! cry

Commodore Wrote:I'd hate for an equitable and stable border agreement that sent them both [Mackoti and Gaspar] looking eastward with blood in their eyes.

Good news: They will not have an equitable border agreement.
Bad news: They will both be looking eastward with blood in their eyes.
I have to run.

Almost called it...

Had a brief chat with TT he asked me to post here:

Quote:3:03 PM
me: hey

make a pbem 24 thread already :P

I am sure that you have countless good things to say about my map wink
3:04 PM
Twinkletoes89: lol

soon perhaps

me: yeah it's fine with me of course if you don't- but the other players have noted in their threads that they would like it if you wrote something
3:05 PM
Twinkletoes89: i'll probably do 50 turn updates or something prob

its a good map btw so kudos
3:07 PM
me: thanks- don't get the wrong idea, I'm not fishing for compliments smile I tried to take your request for a tactical map to heart

I can't say more than that, but depending on how much you've scouted you might know what I mean.
3:08 PM
Twinkletoes89: well its definitely a different type of inland sea to normal

and it almost looks like it has an 'outland' sea too
3:09 PM
I just like how stone is a little out of the way
3:10 PM
will delay macki's building of the pyramids a bit!

me: lol

what plans do you have?

I like your combo a lot

Twinkletoes89: well I expanded to 5 cities before Commodore had 3

now I have to stack some spears
3:11 PM
while I expand towards the middle
3:13 PM
hang on - that's what I get for going off memory

I got to 4 cities quickly
3:14 PM
now at 5 by T42

me: still an impressive count
3:15 PM
Twinkletoes89: my econ has to recover a little now despite me having to stack some spears at the border
3:16 PM
then it'll be another push of 3-4 more cities by around T60 I hope

but if Commodore rushes me, then I will have to reassess a bit
3:17 PM
me: what I assume is your latest city is a nice one, if you can get IW
3:18 PM
Twinkletoes89: yup - though I think Commodore didn't know about the double crab before he gave it to me
3:19 PM
btw you can post this chat in the lurker thread if you like

I may update with the next turn if I have time when it comes
3:20 PM
me: thanks, will do smile

Summary:

TT is doing okay for expansion and he's well aware of what he needs to do for defense and when, although I wonder if he'll overbuild spears and then get blindsided by axes. Not much to say about his empire management, since he hasn't shared any pics tongue

TT should be fine, if he keeps a sentry out and spots for any power strikes, he can easily whip hard-countering spears. The peaks make it difficult to do any tricky moves with Keshiks. Still, if Commodore fails, then it's pretty much gg as Mackoti will run away with the game. If Commodore succeeds, then Gaspar may be pleased as the NAP will be ending prematurely.

Personally, if I were using Keshiks, I'd try to shift my stack around so I can threaten core cities behind the front. That way, they're just as fast as spearmen.

Edit: Wait, I take that back. Reach is a ridiculous city that, while won't be forked in a single turn, is still indefensible. I'd strike straight past that and leave it to be captured or peace-dealed later. You don't settle in the face of someone with an early offensive UU, with a NAP that ends just as that UU comes into play, without getting punished for it.
