Saddle Up! Pegs Off Again

Nothing much to report in the land of the English.

Worker moves onto Pigs this turn ready to pasture over the next few turns.

2nd Warrior heads west to scout out some of the lands over there as I have another Warrior in the queue (due in 4)

Very little to report although I had noticed Catwalk was up to 58 points already yikes which is 15 ahead of the rest of us. Not sure if I need to be worried as I havn't been keeping a full C&D on this game.

Well we have a little more excitement this turn. I micro manage no name city so working the lake and the extra coin pulls BW down by 1 extra turn.
And... we meet our first civ Pericles south by the Gems.

Map

We also get communication:

Quote:Galactic Greetings.

As you open the save you will see my wandering warrior to your South. His peaceful meanderings have taken him far and wide and you are the first Civ he has met. Be assured he has no hostile intentions and will now continue North and East around your territory to further expand our knowledge of this world. i have a reasonably accurate (at the moment) idea of what the world looks like ( and indeed you are exactly where i thought you (or another player) would be) and hopefully we will be able to share further information as it becomes available

How is your exploring, have you met any of the others in your scouting.

Ad Hoc

Galactic Emporer, Lord of the Stars, Prince of the Firmament and Jolly Nice Chap.

 1. He Comes in peace jive
 2. He predicted where I was and was right - he probably knows more about the map than me - but no surprise there as I hadn't spent too much time theorising on this other than an earlier post
 3. He's not Rome!

So what should I do, I seem to have a reputation to be easy going, easy to get along - possible strength but also a possible weakness as a butter up now but definately a future target probably. Also, once again Peg's paranoia kicks in, and wonders if Ad might be lying about peaceful intentions and try a quick one warrior choke smoke

I have kept the second warrior in close vicinity in case Ad tries anything funny in trying a choke for a few turns. although I feel I have this covered.

This was my response:

Quote:Greetings Galactic Empire,

Welcome into the vicinity of "Bad Lands" where the Gold rush search is on and the Whiskey is flowing.

It is pleasing to see Rome is not one of my closest neighbours (from the south anyhow) but on such a small map we can't all be too far apart. My hunch is that your capital could possibly be 8 tiles south of your warrior and roughly the same across (probably to the East). If this hunch is fairly accurate, I think I have a rough idea of where everyone else may be also.

I am pleased you have come with peaceful intentions, it means I can continue to scout far and wide myself, although I am currently circling my territory with a couple of units as I don't feel the circumnavigational bonus on this map offers much advantage. The land itself appears to be extremely resourceful.

My culture has spread far and wide and I suggest your quickest route north would be to continue to head NW as opposed to N or NE as this will take you longer.

Based on my scouting habits, you will be in no doubt surprised to read that you are my first contact in game. Have you met any one else as yet?

With regards to info sharing, what do you have in mind?

Peg

Nothing much to report this turn. I had a response back from Ad which I shall show later on in this post.

I decided to let my paranoia take control and decided to bring my wandering warrior to the west back to sit on the pigs, just in case ad sees a possible opportunity. I'm thinking safer better than sorry. Once he passes I shall then resume scouting.

BW due in turn after next jive Being SPI I can switch to Slavey without penalty jivejivejive

I'm probably about 10 turns away from getting my next couple of settlers out. I'm thinking of Cowboy & Western naming theme. Any lurkers have any good suggestions for city names?

I suppose I should really have a go at attempting a dot map at some point too. Going to wait to see if I have copper first though I think...but then again, I may have a bit of time tomorrow spare to play around smoke

Demogs

Thats not looking too bad at the moment. Hopefully once the workers commence mining the lands we can sort out the MFG number.

And finally Ad's response.

Quote:i have a fairly accurate picture of the lands, for your information your capital is 12 N and 6 E of mine, there should be capitals 12 N and 6 E, 12 W and 6 N and 12 E and 6 S of you. i've also got a fairly good map of all the lands and need only about two turns to confirm exactly what all the terrain for the entire map is. (if my theory is right that is)

Rome is to my W but i haven't met the other two civs, Catwalk seems quite peaceful and i'm hopeful of keeping him that way.

i think it would be to both our advantages if we "hear" any information that may be detrimental to either of us we let each other know, from the number of posts it appears at least two of the other Civs are receiving a bit of Non Green advice so aren't going to make any newbie mistakes

Ad

Oh dear... Ad has Praets to his west :neenernee
Maybe that will keep him preoccupied for a while, but at the same time I need to make sure he doesn't get too friendly with Catwalk that between them they come marching over my way. I would imagine though if Catwalk is planning an attack on someone, he will probably secure a border (possibly Ad) and go for the next closest civ.

Comparing what Ad said about our distances the obvious conclusion is:
 1. I can't count
 2. My map layout wasn't far wrong - where I have Civs NW and SE, it is actually NE and SW...meh

I havn't responded as yet. But maybe Ad has a point about the level of help these guys are receiving. Not that I am complaining mind. Its nice that this site welcomes newcomers and offers help. It took me a good 3 years to sign up rather than just lurk and I have to say, a decision well made!

Turn Summary 18 through to 20

Had a few issues over the weekend connecting to the forums. Not sure why. Has anyone else had any issues?

First my response to ad:

Quote:I don't think I have probably covered as much of the lands as you, but thanks for confirming starts, I had it noted down in reverse (so was expecting you to come from SE as opposed to SW). It does look like we are once again on some sort of mirror map. I was probably a few turns away from meeting my NE neighbours, but decided to continue circling my territory, so I will have to see if I can send someone up there.

Too bad having Rome to your west. I guess he will need a good neighbour to watch his back should his early strategy be of an aggressive nature. Mind you, with him being west to you, that if my head is thinking properly means he is to my East. I think it would be extremely beneficial to keep one and other informed.

Based on what I have seen resource wise, it does look like we are once again on a mirror map of sorts.

Research wise, BW came in, Wheel selected. No Copper in the BFC but it is close by...

A little bit of interest over these few turns, but not too much.

I forgot to mention in my last post that someone discovered Hinduism. I wonder if an Oracle play is on the cards for that person rolleye

Turn 21 was pretty much uneventful, but T22 resulted in a chop and a 2 pop whip to produce me a settler next turn.

As promised in previous posts, here is a Dotmap

I could really do with some lurker comments on this, what do you guys look for when it comes to placing your cities?
Obviously the more resources you can get in a BFC the better but I would like to know your thoughts on the following:

 1. Should you settle on a hill for better defences?
 2. Should you try and ignore the boring plains lands or can these tiles actually be useful for a particular type of city?
 3. Should I always aim to ensure I grab/cover every tile with at least one of my BFC's?
 4. Should I try and avoid overlap. or is overlap a good thing?
 5. If you were playing SP vs AI, would your opinion of any of the above change?

My thoughts are to go settle yellow x first. This looks like a great commerce site, and with Wheel up next turn Pottery was going to be my next choice to enable grannaries and get my workers cottage spamming to help aid some much needed coin for later.

My next city I was thinking of was grey, to start pumping out military, but I can't help thinking I should settle around the copper, maybe even on it huh
It dosn't look too great down there and those whales will not be netted for quite a while. I would probably use this as a military pump also.

No thoughts on my dot maps then rolleye

Well Turn 23 played

First of all, I sent the whipped settler towards the plains hill above the corn to the west. Be on site next turn and settled the turn after. Any thoughts on city names anyone?

Worker completed chop west of No Name City, so with overflow from whip I managed to eek out another worker next turn. I nearly put the hammers into another settler, but thought better of it at this point.

Wheel completed, moved onto Pottery.

More interesting news on the Diplo front, but first of all...

Yes thats right lurkers, I do believe we have Cull's boundaries in site. As it was, he also had a warrior south of gold, so I have received an email from him prior to me playing my turn.

Not so great, but then after 2 pop whipping what should I expect rolleye

Now for the diplo..

Here is what I have received from Cull

Quote:Hello!

It seems like my warrior met your as well as Mr. Ad Hoc's in his lonely walk across the land. We here in Sumeria send you warm greetings. My first matter of business is how much you may know of our world. As for myself, we have met every empire but the mysterious Ottoman. How about you?

Cull
Sumeria~

And my response

Quote:Hello my fine Sumerian Friends,

You are the second civ I have met after the Arabians as you already know, seeing both our warriors in close proximity. Have you met anyone else in your quest?
We English are slowly coming to terms with the lands, they seem to be joyously fruitful of resources. The map and positions of ourselves appear to be as predicted, although I have to admit I had my plan slightly in reverse.
I don’t know if you have noticed a common tile theme around the place or not?

You may notice I have a warrior up near your borders, maybe just out of your line of sight, maybe not I’m non too sure. Rest assured he is of peaceful nature and just sent to scout the lands that surround us and make friendly talk with all whom he may stumble across.

Kind Regards,

Peg

Well theres no point being a git to anybody yet now is there lol......... or is there!

I received this from Ad this very morning

Quote:Further Galactic Greetings

We both have now met Cull i believe, although i received the wrong save this morning so haven't been able to check for myself. i've now only got to meet Ceil who is to my SE i believe

Catwalk is being quite active diplo wise and is trying to arrange an anti-pegasus alliance as they've got you ranked as the no 1 player, i've got good relations with catwalk so i've told him i won't interfere but won't join in, so i'd appreciate it if you didn't let him know about this conversation . I'm more worried about Ceil and his industrious ottomen.

We haven't got an official NAP so i'm proposing a NAP until T50 with a 5 turn cooling off period, if this is acceptable let me know

Ad Hoc

Picked this up on my ipad before starting work. Not nice reading when you have to walk straight into a meeting smoke Needless to say my mind was thinking about what beats Praets all morning. lol

Should I be pi$$ed? We are only 20 turns into the game and I am enemy No 1 to Catwalk whom I havn't even met yet rolleye

In reflection I feel a little overwhelmed by the fact that Catwalk deems me the better player. Clearly not read my other threads and seen me get walked all over by everyone else :neenernee

And I know for a fact Ad plays at a higher level than me. I think he's getting the popcorn in already. lol

I have not responded yet, but will do before the night is out. The NAP sounds reasonable, he came good on his proposal to sound each other out as targets, I may find I could have a good friend to turn to if I can convince him to side up with me later on.

Settler arrives on spot this turn. Worker 3 completed, with 15 hammer overflow into a 4th. I think a chop will come in next turn also but I have not simmed it, so not too sure if it will complete the worker the following turn.

I got graphs on Ad this turn, should have had them last turn, but put 2 EP on Cull smoke

It looks like Ad got Hinduism.

Anyhow as per usual reporting...

Diplo wise I received the following from Cull

Quote:We have met every empire but the mysterious Ottoman. I have not noticed a common theme, although I confess not having spent too much time over the constantly updating maps.

What are the Ottomans up to huh They certainly are not interested too much in the scouting side of things unless they headed towards Catwalk and back.

And my response to Ad

Quote:Hi Ad,

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t expecting to receive this it disturbing news so early on. Fortunately I had been thinking of building a military presence just in case of being a possible target. They clearly haven't done their research on my other threads if they think I am No 1 lol.

No worries about letting this slip, and in SP terms this is a +5 for you for the tip off!

With regards to a NAP a 50 turn nap with 5 turn cool down sounds perfectly reasonable. One other clause would be no right of passage through your lands to come at me, not that they possible need to. Turn 23 just played, so I believe your next turn will be T24, so your T75 would be the earliest you could attack should you want the NAP to cease. In terms of notice, by my T70 you would have to give notice on the NAP, anything there after puts us into an extended NAP. Does this make sense?
Also, I have taken off EP’s on you as I believe I have your graphs next turn, can you defer yours onto someone else also?

Thanks again

Peg

Big Whiskey settled this turn. Barracks selected as current build for now.
Chop at No Name City did result in my 4th jive worker ready next turn.

I MM a road east of Big Whiskey this turn with my 2 workers over there as opposed to planting them onto the corn ready to farm next turn.

Research wise, I set to 0% as b/e is at 50%. This will remain for a few turns before going bact ot 100%. Pottery should be due in 5 turns, but could shorten with growth in No Name city.

I really need to think about what I want to do in the next 25 turns.
