Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

pindicator Wrote:Just from reading the thread, I can infer that he enjoys diplomacy and rules-lawyering. Nabaxo confirms that when he said Sommerset is a lawyer IRL. He wants to beat people at the diplomacy and deal-making, maybe even more than he wants to win the Civ part of the game.

And obviously, it also tells us we want to go over every proposition from him with a fine tooth comb.

Personally, I dislike dealing with lawyers like Sommer. He seems like the kind of guy who gives my profession a bad rep. My job is to facilitate good results for clients, not "win" cases. Smart insurance companies should offer my clients more money than the case is otherwise worth at an early stage to avoid costing themselves more overall money in the long haul. They are a business and saving money should be more important than "winning." But lawyers like Sommer screw up the potential for mediating wins for both sides with their desire to litigate every little thing to the nth degree.

I am in to the extent that anybody wants my help.

Poly's Team captain: Calantian.

Ruff will have more details, but Calantian was cheating in their PBEM that Ruff was reporting in his PBEM13 thread.

I've not much to add, I was an Amazon for a while over on CFC, but never got going because I joined right in the middle of a game, and wasn't too pushed to be honest.

As regards spying, I've recently reactivated my CFC account, and I do know quite a few of the more active players there somewhat (whether they'll be interested in MTDG or not I don't know), but I can (and will if needed) track down the players, go through their published games, and look for playstyle pointers &c. from there.

I think though Kyan that you're wrong in one sense in your OP. You should be in charge, if even only from an organisational stand-point. You got the ball rolling and have a pretty clear idea of what you want to do with the diplo. If we're going with a team effort on this we'll each of us need some directional control and oversight, and IMO I think you're the best man.

You can thank me later.

The kind of player who uses admin passwords to snoop around a save. So, yes, he would.

I've just looked up CFC and they've posted a recruitment thread overnight (Irish time), and the following players have signed up so far:

2metraninja
Sommerswerd
whats a navy
Bowsling
cav scout &
Aivoturso

There's probably at least a few more having signed up in the discussion thread over there, but I'll leave the names from this thread for now.

Some thoughts seeing as I'm looking anyways:
whats a navy
He says he's an immortal player, with deity wins. This is true, from his posts in the CFC threads. I've not actually seen him play too many games, but he does give out decent advice to others who post games (for example he's a dedicated lurker to Neal's King of the World series), so he knows his mechanics. I do not think he has much multiplayer experience in the game, so he could be thrown by some of the multiplayer strong play, if he's a turn player. In general I find he's a good, polite and consientious poster, whether that'll hold up in diplo I don't know.

Bowsling
He has multiplayer experience, mostly in Civ 3 from the forums, but he was trying to get a team K.u.K. up and running in the game. This seemed to be a heavy role-play idea based around Austria-Hungary. Last demogame he was in team Quatronia, and from a cursory look at their thread was very involved in that team. SO there should be lots of goodies to mine there.

cav scout
Also a member of team Quatronia, looks like he was involved in the diplo in the last game to a significant extent, though he doesn't seem to have been quite as active as Bowsling, interestingly he's only initiated threads in Quatronia. Diving through his posts on CFC he's very active on OTF, which isn't really relevant to what we need to know, so there isn't really a feel for him outside Quatronia.

Aivosturo
Member of team Merlot, was involved quite a lot in their West Tower thread, and to a lesser extent in their Global Foyer thread. He has only 140odd posts at CFC and seems to be very infrequent except for the demogame.

I'll see if I can get a bit more tonight or tomorrow. But these were a few initial ideas from looking through the statistics section of each poster.

Agree with Brian's nomination of Kyan as diplo leader. I have full confidence that Kyan will be able to incorporate the assistance of anyone who wishes to contribute at any level.

You guys realize this was Kyan's objective all along? To get you all to think it was your idea to make him diplo leader? YOU"RE ALL FALLING FOR HIS DIPLO MASTERY!

Would you like to take charge instead Lewwyn? I'm pretty sure it'll be exciting and fun. (For us). (not for the enemies).
