[SPOILERS] Regoarrarr rides again

So I am doing what Cyneheard called "Hyper C&D". He asked the (completely and totally valid) question of what doing this gains me, and the answer of course, is nothing lol

But it's interesting. So here's what I've figured out. Remember that I win the tiebreaker vs. Pindicator and Ichabod, and lose it vs. scooter and ruff_hi.

T0 - scooter and ruff have not settled yet when I get the turn. Both Pindicator and Ichabod settled on a plains hill and are working 3f tiles. One of them is working a commerce tile (3/0/1) and one is not (3/0/0). They're both on first-row techs. So 5f, 2p and 16/17 GNP. This is all pretty much set in stone - at this point there were only 2 people that had settled, so the C&D is pretty easy.

T1 - at this point ruff settled (on his T0) but scooter still has not. Top GNP is up to 21, which is Ruff (CRE) working a 1c tile and working on a pre-req tech (a la BW). If I choose 5 food, I'm still 1st, which means that Ruff has less than 5 food. Max prod is up to 3, which is consistent with ruff settling on his T0 but not on the plains hill (adjacent to the lake - he has 8 land tiles), and working a 1/2/1 tile (similar to my plains hill sheep)

T2 - But now it gets interesting. Everyone has settled (Scooter on his T1). Worst prod is now 2, meaning that scooter has at least 2 prod and so does ruff. But now my 5 food gives me only 2nd place, meaning that one of the two of them also has 5 food (since they beat me in the tiebreaker). It's possible that ruff has swapped tiles, but the simplest explanation is that scooter is working a 3f tile while also having a 2h (plains hill) plant. He is very likely working the fish tile as his GNP is at least 19.

So it appears that he had a different plains hill plant that he could get adjacent to the lake. That... doesn't seem right / fair / etc. So much so that I kept looking for ways around it but I can't figure out any other scenario that fits the data. What I mean is that the whole thing that made the setup of this game interesting is the choice between the PH plant and being adjacent to the lake fish. So for him to have another plains hill that is NEXT to the lake just doesn't seem right.

Now, I realize that I am making a lot of assumptions about our two starts, which very well may not be true (and in some cases specifically were stated NOT to be true). It's also possible that he settled on for example a plains ivory tile that was 3 tiles away from his settler (spotted with a lucky scout move). His 8000 land tiles may even not be this lake but instead on the coast (we'll have a better idea of that on T6 when his borders pop).

But that's what I got. T3 Ruffs borders have popped and he swapped to a 2/1/0 tile, I think. That drops his GNP to 20, but top GNP is still 21, which means I think that scooter's GNP is also 21 (working the 3c fish on a pre-req tech). I am really having trouble figuring out what ruff is up to....

Turn 4 is in the books. Here's a pretty picture

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG]

Of course, taken after the turn ended so we can see the full exploration including tiles revealed with the EoT border pop. I'm thinking spend a turn moving on to the forested spices to get a better idea of what is over there on those eastern landmasses. Other option would be N-N followed by N-NE onto the grass hill. May revise the spot for that eastern city 1N (so 2E of the corn), so it makes it on the river.

Astute observers will notice that Pindicator's score has increased by 6 points, signifying a tech increase. No soldier point increase, so that means Fishing!

Doubly astute observers will notice that I swapped over to Bronze Working this turn. I'd like to explain that as some brilliant anti-C&D measure but really I just was messing around with my techs trying to determine GNP and forgot to switch back smoke. Luckily, it won't really matter as BW is my next tech and I am due to discover Agriculture a few turns before my worker is born anyways. Still, gotta remember to be careful there!!!

An interesting hCD observation is that max GNP is 21, worst is 17, and the average is 19. I think that means that we're at 21/21/17/17. So Ruff has swapped back to a 1c tile and Scooter is still working the fishies (our 21 GNPs). Pindicator must have been our 17 GNP (otherwise it would have taken another turn to get Fishing), and he is still working that, while Ichabod, now that borders popped, is working his 1/2/1 sheep equivalent tile to also give him 17 GNP.

The other option with the scout would be to backtrack and move SW-SW, SW-SW. Reason for that is that to the north, it looks like a dead-end (I can see water to the north of that river grass hill, though it's hard to see in that screenshot). We know we're all connected by land per the requirements of the map, so it seems like it would be a good idea to figure out where that connection is and meet the other folks, sooner rather than later.

I am glad I decided to move the scout towards the south. It is looking like that's a narrow isthmus down to the south, which I am hoping connects to the other folks land. Settling as a fort either 1S or 2S of the corn seems attractive

Here we go! 2 played turns lately and Ichabod has the save currently so likely to see another turn here shortly.

My intrepid scout continues heading southward

I've marked out a few possible cities - along with 3 as yet unmarked cities on the north coast, it looks like there are about 9 cities on "my" continent (or my part of the continent anyways).

Ichabod got a score increase (Agriculture) and I discovered Agriculture a turn later (at the end of this most recent turn). I doubt it will fool anyone doing C&D (like they're going to think I teched Masonry first?!? smoke). Scooter and Ruff are still working on techs (one would assume Bronze Working). Ichabod's GNP moved up to 19 this turn, meaning that he is now working on a pre-req tech (I'd imagine it would be Bronze Working like I plan to, or possibly Animal Husbandry or Pottery).

This is sort of the Platonic Ideal Regoarrarring, but I like it when you post new things.

Max GNP is 21, average is 20 and worst is 19. So I'd think it's

* Scooter - 21, fishes + pre-req tech
* Ruff - 21, 1c tile + pre-req tech
* Ichabod - 19 - 1c tile + pre-req tech
* Pindicator - 21 -
