I have a few posts worth of post-game commentary coming. First out, some words to our neighbors before I go reading all the threads:
Dreylin; I guess we've said this before but I still feed bad for rushing you.
Commodore; Really appreciate the friendly relations, 5/5 would neighbour again. I do wonder how much thought you put into invasion plans on us though.
Pindicator; I thought we had a good thing going until you took advantage of our forces being away for a war you asked for to backstab us. Not cool.
Amica; We were destined to be mortal enemies in this game, but then fate intervened and we became the very bestest of friendly minnows in a shark pool.
Plemo; I can see the out-of-game reasons for your pre-emptive attack, but I still think it was pretty shitty.
Superdeath; We tried our best to support you against plemo, but I'm not sure how much was received.

Likewise, albeit soured somewhat by the Plemo-path to a core city that one time. I had looked at invading but I respect your skills in defense, I knew that juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze, and I also knew you'd be a bulwark against Plemo and/or Pindicator forever.

If you had turned around your knights after you were done with Bing's core there would have been an opening. We were extremely weak at that point. After that it would have been painful until mgs/tanks.

A few words on that backstab: I never should have done it. Hitru was advocating for us to invade you guys for the longest time, and I finally just relented. But I should have stood firm. Even without the miscalculation I think we were better served by developing the lands we had gained. FWIW, I think that is the biggest regret i have this game.

I could certainly see the benefit in rolling into us after Amica was dead; it would have been messy though. The only reason we felt safe in moving those forces away was because we thought you'd given us the blessing to go fight Plemo.

Finished reading through, it was eye opening to see how the Plemo situation unfolded. I remember being impressed with how you managed to hold him off, and being able to read about it was great. Really this was a situation that was made for Vikings to succeed and you not only survived but was on pace to overcome him until the Unfortunate Incident happened...
I know we're talking about that in more detail in my thread, but I had completely forgotten about giving you my blessing to attack Plemo. Not even sure how many turns were between those two events but if it was the same war then I agree it comes across pretty dastardly.
Even so, I think Donovan Zoi's backstab of Magic Science was a bigger one. The two of them had successfully held off Mig together and then DZ immediately conquered the undefended Magic Science cities on his border. Man I wish they had been reporting because just seeing that happen in 3rd person was really eventful.

I'm still putting together some thoughts on the initial decapitation, but the berserker invasion defense I'm actually quite proud of. A large part of our survival was due to you and Commodore preferring to keep us alive as a buffer state, but that sort of worked out.

It was the same war, but I can understand how it's not easy to keep track of foreign wars that have little direct impact. Looking back I see that there was some more time between the fish and the backstab than it felt like at the time, mainly due to a) Commodore was locked by a peace treaty and b) the war being very slow fought.

I've only read the Magic part of that one, but it does seem like a bigger one indeed.
