@Kalin:

Bo Shek is 2SE of Momaw Nadon.
Momaw Nadon is on the staging tile 2SE of Paris.

For the lurkers (and hopefully Byzantium if we can kill them soon smile ):
The post in the IT thread is true from the stand point that, that actually does happen when I try to play remotely. However, I didn't play remotely last turn devil. So pretty much to lead on the Byzantines. We are now on T56 and really need them to not whip anything this turn (they did just grow I believe, according to civstats so hopefully that's Athens).

War has been declared and they've only got 1 warrior! Most likely will move the 2nd back though but whatever...

Will post pics tonight!

Actually they have 2 warriors in the city now.

Response from India:
Quote:Dear Rebel Alliance,

Greetings! It is a great pleasure to finally meet with your fine team as well. Let me first ask the obvious question: it seems you're using a Star Wars theme for your team. Which planet is your capital city? (Do you have the precious "wookie" resource on Kashyyyk?) Speaker and I are using a Civil War naming theme, based off one of our favorite books.

More seriously, yes, we can tell you that we are located to the west of Jowy and Yaz's Greek team. In return for the information you passed us, we can tell you that Dantski is located to the south of our team, although you'll have a very long walk to get there from where we met.

Feel free to ignore this question if you don't want to answer, but we've been curious: what's with all of the whipping in your capital? Is everything OK? The infamous IKZ trio hasn't been threatening you with their quechuas, have they? smile

We're pretty far away from one another, but that may allow our teams to work together, sharing information on rival teams and that sort of thing. There's probably zero chance either of us will be competing for land with one another, after all. I know that Speaker and I would like to see you guys doing well so that we have a friend in the east! Let's try to stay in touch as we move forward.

Cheers,

Quote:Greetings to the Indian Team,

I, Kalin, also wanted to send you a personal 'well met' message.

All references to Stars Wars should be directed to the other ruler of the Ottomans smile I find it quite entertaining to see all these themes in the game! Our capital plan.. er, city is Corruscant.

We would be happy to answer this. However, before that we'd like to define a protocol between us. All information we share is to stay between us unless otherwise specified. When in doubt about anything, we should ask each other. You have our word we'd respect this protocol if you also give us yours smile

We would be happy to work with you whenever possible. To start, we can agree on EP spending: let's spend points on each other until we get each other's graphs, then start spending them elsewhere. I think this makes sense for both of us. Let's indeed stay in touch and continue to explore possibilities to collaborate.

Kalin of the Ottomans

And a response from HRE:
Quote:Dear Athlete and Kalin,

As you said, we are close to Dantski/Rome of Korea and plako/broker33/Gandhi of Korea. We have established contact with both of those civilizations.

I agree that our distance makes us natural friends. With both of us being relatively new to Pitboss (me - DMOC, and Nakor), we are quite eager to make some friends.

About the map ... it seems to be a bit like a snaky, low seal level archipelago. There is plenty of water to the south of our start, and plenty of land to the north and east of us. What do you think? We have also spotted an island with potential resources.

Feel free to ask us any further questions.

Regards,
DMOC for DMOC/Nakor team of the Holy Roman Empire

And Kalin's response:
Quote:Hail to the Holy Roman Emperors,

We are happy to make friends too! smile

We would like to define the following protocol: whenever we share information of any kind between us, let it stay between us, unless otherwise specified. When in doubt we should ask each other. I think this may come in handy down the road.

Did you mean Dantski/Mali or Whosit/Rome? It is not clear from your email smile If it's Mali we would appreciate some help in meeting them (we have met Rome already).

We would have thought the map is more of a snaky continent kind, given that we went quite a long way on the same land mass and met everybody but Mali. We did notice land masses across the water as well, but it's not clear at the moment if they are reachable by land. Are you certain what you saw are islands?

At the moment, I think it's not much in the way we can collaborate, so let's start with an EP spending agreement: let's spend EPs on each other until we see each other's graphs, then start spending them somewhere else. Further down the road I am sure we can exchange resources etc. We have also discovered writing, so if you want to sign OB we could do that. We are aware that at the moment it benefits us more somewhat being closer to you, however we can either agree to no right-of-passage, or you have our word that we would not share any information that we'd learn with anyone without permission.

All in all, I hope this to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

And now the press release that went out to all those we know (individually of course):

Quote:Hello to the **** Team,

As you may have seen in game we have declared war on Byzantium. The reason for this is that they settled their second city in a place where we planned to settle our second city. It is so close to our capital that our 3rd ring borders their 2nd ring.

We did have peaceful intentions going into this game. We feel however that we were cornered by a strong team and a civilization with one of the best unique units which left us with practically no choice.

We would do our best to keep you updated. If you have questions please let us know.

Best,
Kalin for Team A/K of the Ottomans

And our war declaration on the Byzantine's:
Quote:Hello Byzantines,

We are sending you a friendly declaration of war: "your head would look good at the end of a pole" smile

Let's try to work out a partition of the turn so that things proceed smoothly.

Kalin for Team A/K of the Ottomans

We've also received a couple responses.

From Rome:
Quote:Greetings Athlete and Kalin of the Ottomans,

I did not receive the notice of war in-game, most likely because I have not yet met the Byzantines. I appreciate the notification. I am still a fair distance from Byzantium, but I may cancel our Open Borders agreement before I approach them simply for diplomatic purposes. Once I make it through their territory, I would hope to reestablish Open Borders with you. However, it will surely be some time before that becomes an issue.

I am sure that you realize that the Empire cannot render any assistance at this time, though we hope for your swift victory. We will notify you if and when our scout, Thannos, reaches Byzantium. Hopefully the war will be over by then, but if not, perhaps we will be able to aid you in some way. I do have one question of pure curiosity, though I understand if you do not wish to answer. Did you declare war now because of necessity, or because you are in a strong enough position to succeed? I hope that it is the latter.

In any case, do keep me informed. And may the Force be with you.

Best regards,

Whosit, Galactic Emperor

And from the Inca:
Quote:We understand, and just between you and us, fully support your decision. smile

A reply sent off to Rome:

Quote:Hello Whosit,

To answer your question about the war declaration it was probably some of both. Given that they settled towards us so aggressively under the guise of wanting a long term relationship we felt it necessary to act swiftly to this. The timing of the declaration comes while we have a small advantage in power and have (hopefully) caught them not as prepared as they should have been. So the actions leading to the declaration came out of necessity but the declaration itself comes at a time when we believe we are strong enough to be successful. Of course by the end of this turn anybody watching civstats will know if that is true or not wink!

Sincerely,

Kalin,

Wanted to discuss some things with you about our goals going forward before we play. Since we landed archery this turn I see you set us on to Math. What are your thoughts on going towards HBR first? I want to eliminate Byzantium rather than have them hang around and hate us for eons to come, never trusting us again. They'll just be a thorn in our side a'la "Rabbits". They'll probably get archers in their capital so I think it only prudent we bring Horse Archers to the party sooner than later. It's possible we might win the whole war without them but better to be safe than sorry in this instance I think. From there I think we should head for math, sailing and then metal casting with a side goal of trying to land The Hanging Gardens (c'mon you know you want to!), but that part is a long way off. I'm even flirting with an Oracle bid but unfortuneately the techs required for it are too much for us. Though we might see the Inca take a stab at that as they landed Hinduism last turn.

Anyways the matter of the real important stuff is tech path and how long we want to stay at war?

Also a strategy question. They haven't moved bear yet and perhaps they won't in an attempt to try and choke paris after. If we take paris with only 2 chariots I think we should try and kill bear with the other 2. Maybe hit him with Momaw first. What if it takes 3 to take the city? Do we still try and kill him? I'd like him dead quickly but we may have to see. Any thoughts you have here would be great.

response from the Inca formally accepting our NAP proposal:

Quote:Hey Kalin/Athlete-

Just to formally state it- We accept your terms for the NAP. We're confident that together our civs can accomplish much (or destroy much.... mwhahaha)

We have been stonewalling Regoarrarr with regards to a formal NAP for a pretty large time to make sure we kept our options open, hopefully the formidable threat of our scary quechua should force him to leave his defense against you weaker than it could have been. wink

We have not encountered much information that would be useful to you- When we did go by Paris and look into the city we did only see a warrior(s? I can't tell from my screenshot), but that information is pretty dated at this point.

Feel free to let us know if you need anything else,

Iamjohn for IKZ

And my response:
Quote:Hello Iamjohn, Kodii, Zeviz,

Thank you for the response, our good relations shall hopefully prove fruitful to no end for the both of us. If you care to join us in the conflict Metternich would be more then welcome to join the party at Athens, in particular if a Byzantine wheat farm were to get destroyed because you decided to hold a field party rather than head to Athens we would not mind in the slightest!

This is just our formal request for a little aid to help us choke the response from them smile. If you feel you can offer anything it would be very much appreciated!

E-mail from India:
Quote:Dear Rebel Alliance,

Yes, we saw your declaration of war in-game this turn. Thanks for sending us an email message with the head's up. We're sorry to hear that you've been forced into such drastic measures by the aggressive settling of a neighbor. Their second city (Paris) is also the Buddhist holy city, correct? As a faraway team there's little we can do to affect the conflict, but you certainly have our best wishes for military success.

Kalin mentioned in his prior email that, "We'd like to define a protocol between us. All information we share is to stay between us unless otherwise specified. When in doubt about anything, we should ask each other." Speaker and I want to let your team know that any information that you pass on to us and want to remain a secret will be kept in the strictest confidence. If you have any tactical questions, we'd be happy to help you out. (Speaker is pretty good at unit maneuvering!)

On the subject of espionage spending, we agree that it would be good to gain Demographics visibility and then spend our points on other teams. I seem to remember that if we both spend 43 EP, we can both view the bar graphs of one another, so let's aim for that as a preliminary number.

Good luck, and may the Force be with the rebels!

Given you've seen the war declaration I'm sure you can surmise why we've been whipping!

Yes I do believe 43 is the "magic" # so we'll head to that as a starting point. Best of luck in your travels!

Well we've taken Paris. They had 1 fully fortified Warrior and 2 with no fortification. We won the first at 64%, lost the 2nd at 71.9 and won the 3rd and 4th battle at 71.9% and the last was almost a gimme. Str 4 vs .7 with no fortification bonus but +25% to city defense.

So we've got a str 4 chariot in the newly renamed Endor but problem is they've got a warrior 1N of Endor and another one 2E with a worker. The worker has already put one turn into a road and so we be attacked by 2 warriors next turn. Hopefully they don't before our 12 hours runs out but if they do we've got to hope that our lone chariot can defeat the 2 warriors (the 2nd one has to cross a river).

I've got a ton of screenshots but I have to edit them and upload them so give me some time (didn't get a chance to last night).
