[SPOILERS] Rusten enters uncharted waters

The drop in food you saw from us at some point in early game was us losing 98.6% (or something like that) battle vs barb and losing (temporarily, but we lost over 100 foodhammers in the process) our 4th city.

Looking forward to reading your thread.

GG. The size of the game being so overwhelming is mainly why I threw in the towel. I think I wouldn't lose many (if any) more cities in the short term, but the prospect of at best playing 1v2 for the rest of the game didn't leave me very hopeful. The rest of the world was already at war and the only remaining wild card (TBW) had already made his choice of ally clear. I thought I had an agreement with Commodore to respect each other's border, but, alas, the iron-iron exchange was meaningless. That was a slap in the face which also contributed to me conceding.

And no worries @TBW, I'm not saying you made a stupid decision or something unexpected. Just disappointed I wasn't the one you went with. I had hoped you would at least remain neutral.

Really well played and we indeed were not completely sure the attack would work when we started planning for it but in the end it was (maybe barely) enough. At the same time we were pretty sure that attacking you was best path for us as we could not let you incorporate DS area into your empire.

And it definitely helps to have 2 players to think turns. I hope to see you again soon in a game, either as team member or as an opponent. smile

Regarding this game and our attack (I have not yet red through your thread so my apologies if you have answered these already):

I was really surprised you did not build more ironclads, those would have been pain in the ass.
Did you anticipate commando units at all?

I noticed your C4 knights at the end of your war vs. Elkad and a GG being born after that so I knew you at the very least had access to a select few mounted units with commando promotion for one use. That's why I didn't leave my inland cities empty. If you're saying you had a city that could get commando promotion out of the gate then no, I wasn't aware of it, although I considered it a possibility.

Lack of ironclads is a result of laziness and greed. If I was more zoned in I probably would've delayed some less important factories to have a larger navy, but with the game becoming more of a slog I gambled on an industrial revolution. I had plenty on the way, I think I completed 10 of them just this last end of turn.

Yeah, we had city pumping out almost 1 commando cav per turn. That was main reason we believed it would be really hard for you to defend without losing a lot of stuff.

You would have lost Plesio (we were waiting for fort to be done so that we can soften up the defenders) next turn and we would have burned Whale Shark from the fog next turn unless you drafted or reinforced it. We would also have burned Speck soon while gathering the next batch of commandos (which we hoped you would not have anticipated, as indeed was the case, so we would have gotten some real damage done again).

We also had GA coming next turn so unless you had one also we would have prolly beaten you to destroyers. And even if you had GA lined up we managed to force you to use your gold to defend long enough so we would have had destroyers at around the same time at worst case.

Agreed that the map was simply too big, I think you had around 65 and we around 75 cities at the end. smile
