Ok well, I think I messed up the Sareln plan anyway.

I researched ammo conservation at the foundry and researched Outsider shard after Titan armour. Hired 3 recruits and built nothing.

Unfortunately I then found we only had enough alloys to build 3 suits of titan armour

Then I realised ammo conservation actually costs quite a bunch of alloys. Oops

We get abduction near the end of the month. With the options being 4 scientists, $200 and another Support, and no one in danger of leaving, I choose the 4 scientist mission in UK.

Spellman, Pindicator and Lewwyn get to go on this mission. I like taking my own avatar. And Commodore and Dazed round out the squad with more reliable firepower, since we know that rookies usually fail to hit anything. They all got alien grenades to help out with that.

So the team is: Assault Heavy Heavy Rookie Rookie Rookie

we arrive at a truck stop near Manchester

On the first turn commodore, a heavy, takes up a good position behind the crate while everyone else dashes behind the first truck once Lewwyn pronounces it clear. I know there's always an alien spawn on the other side of this truck because of having played this map before

no action from aliens; on our turn Spellman runs to the corner of the truck activating a cyberdisk and 2 drones

Now spellman could get a point blank shot off on either the cyberdisk or drone, but cyberdisks blow up when they die and it's pretty likely the truck cab will get blown up at some point. This would most likely result in a messy death for Spellman. So he's just going use his other move to run away.

Uberfish fires a rocket blowing up the drone, truck cab and doing 12 damage to the cyberdisk.

Lewwyn shoots it at close range with 88% to hit and, being an incompetent recruit, misses.

Dazed kills it off with the first shot of his rapid fire.

Commodore and Pindicator try to shoot the second drone hiding behind the truck and both miss.

Alien turn; a second cyberdisk shows up accompanied by a drone. The drone from the first alien group decides it doesn't like its tactical position and would be safer with its allies

Seeing as all these alien units are now sitting in the firing line of 2 heavies, this is a very poor tactical decision.

Commodore's HEAT rocket blows up both drones and does 12 damage to the cyberdisk and Uberfish finishes it with heavy laser. Everyone reloads

The squad advances through the truck line and I mess up my positioning

I thought the back wall of the truck was blown out too, but it's not

So neither of my heavies in the centre of the formation is actually able to fire at anything

This means that next turn when spellman moves up to a full cover pillar and triggers 2 mutons and a berserker, neither heavy has a rocket available

However, the mutons decided to hide behind gas pumps so I decide we can handle the situation.

Spellman throws his alien grenade

the grenade + gas pump explosion instantly kills the regular muton and the Berserker charges

taking it out of cover and allowing Dazed some good shots at it

It's likely Dazed will only get one hit, but that'll pull the berserker closer to us because it gets a free move every time it's hit, and the rest of the troops will be able to engage and kill it.

However he hits twice at 55% and kills the berserker

I have uberfish and pindicator able to engage the last muton this turn from opposite edges of the truck.

Uberfish only has 35% to hit due to Full cover behind the gas pump. However because it is a gas pump and heavy fire has a high tendency to blow things up, he shoots anyway.

The miss blows up the gas pump doing as much damage as a non-critical hit would have done

Pindicator has a 65% shot with his LPR, hits and finishes off the muton.

Lewwyn spots two thin men skulking around the station shop. I can just take pot shots at them and if everyone misses blow them up with a rocket.

Lewwyn fires and misses (he hasn't managed to hit a single shot all mission and I'm thinking this means we should probably lynch him for being a traitor)

Spellman takes a pot shot and hits, killing one!

Pindicator misses!

Another mission where aliens didn't manage to get a shot off. Who needs snipers anyway? We collect our 4 scientists and two promotions. No countries are in the red.


I finished off the Outsider Shard research since it was less than a day at this point, and was able to build the shard. However, the only gear I have upgraded is 3 titan armour due to our alloy shortage.

We won't lose any countries this month, but IMO we should raid the base next mission anyway to get alloys and important tech unlocks.

*shrug* oh well :P

Good work Uberfish. Would you want to raid the base with only 3 titans or should we collect one more UFO before proceeding? In my own classic game I find that Alloys are pretty much the limiting factor on my equipment, so yeah, engineers are awesome. I imagine we're going to buzz through the tech tree right quick now too.

I think we can go now, it's really up to the next player.

Alloys can be a nuisance - it depends on how much you choose to build, IE relying on alien captures for plasma rifles vs building them, skipping laser and/or plasma cannons, sacrificing a continent so that air power isn't needed there, can save a lot of alloys.
