RB PBEM #1 - Gandhi [spoilers]

Drat ...

Why did I build useless scouts? What a waste of time and hammers - that scout had already used the clock (tick tock) of invincibility ... actually he won previously. Oh well, guess I will have to build something else stronger ... like an axeman!!

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Nothing much to report - moved 3rd scout down to 1st scouts death chamber to pick up the hut.

First Worker chop coming in next turn - will chop into worker, then whip worker next turn with overflow into Stonehenge. Hopefully, that will finish the wonder in time to start on the Great Wall (tech is currently 3 or 4 turns away).

No pics as I played this turns either side of a day trip to Philadelphia to see the Cezanne Exhibition at the Art Museum there - very good. Museum also had a Armour and Arms section that contained a boat load of armour and ... errr ... arms ... swords, more Halberds that you could poke a stick at, etc.

My girlfriend saw the cezanne exhibition and she loved it.

A second map from that Hut in the South. What a waste of time and units that hut turned out to be. My 'sooooo' finding scout in the North (well, North to me) has this facing it ...

... I clucked and ran away to the yellow tile. I now have enough of my surrounding area mapped out so I will be updating my sand-pit game and putting together a dot-map. I'll also upload it so others can have a look at what I think my land looks like.

My 13 hammer chop came in this turn. I swapped to a worker with the intention of whipping it next turn. I'll run some sims to see if it is best to whip next turn or the turn after. How many hammers does 1 pop give at this speed?

One pop should be 20 hammers on Quick, if I remember correctly.

When I read through your post above quickly, I thought it said that there was a Cezanne exhibit featuring a boat load of armor and swords. Heh, I dunno what that would look like, but I'd go see it! tongue

Not much to report, let another turn of production go into my worker, will whip next round. Thx for the info Sullla, I confirm that it is 20 hammers. Both scouts proceeding West.

Sooooo's scout came calling - found my capital. Not sure if that is the right play - I would have expected him to keep searching for other players. Maybe he has multiple scouts out.

Here is the dot map I promised. I've mocked up / copied what I know of the terrain into a dummy game and then loaded it under BUG. This will let me dot map (see below) as well as investigate city sites (later).

  • Red Dot - my second city. Should it be as indicated or 1 tile E?
  • White Dot - future fishing village
  • Blue Dot - Where I want to put the city but the water is in the way. Cannot really yell at the map maker for this - don't expect them to map out my first 5 cities and make sure they all fit in
  • Green Dot - another source of copper
  • light blue - blocker city, think I will need to be quick to stake that territory

Not much room for cities, is there. Hopefully the others are further off and I can push into the land in the West. If not, I might have to resort to an early rush of some sort.

Whipped the worker with 1 turn to go. I will not set the city to max growth and grow to size 5 in 11 turns. I have 39 hammers overflow. Should I put that into ...
  1. Stonehenge - bring it to 79 of 80 hammers
  2. The Great Wall (100 hammers needed)
  3. Settler

In other news, I found Mehmed II with my Northern Scout (now, I just have to look up who that actually is). My Southern Scout is next to a wolf, but in a forest shhh

Quote:Greetings Mehmed II,

Well met. How are you today? Have you met any others in this find world we seem to be occupying? You are the second civilization that I have met.

Regards,

Ruff

I'd move Red 1S for less overlap with White (which is way more than a fishing village!), and to get another FP and plains forest hill into its BFC. Forget about Blue Dot until Calendar at the earliest (way too little food): seeing what's down by the Stone would be a better option. If there's food a seaside city on the stone might be worthwhile. Light Blue seems fine, and Green Dot might be worth settling early if that Copper is intended for another civ.

It'd be nice for us lurkers to get an overview shot of the land you've revealed so far.
