For civs with multiple leaders, if you just send me the civ name I'll go random for the leader .

We can't specify leaders? There are a lot of civs with a builder leader and a fighter leader (Hippus, Calabim, Ljosalfar, Sheaim) some that just have a worse second leader (Luchuirp, arguably the Khazad and Lanun) and some that change their playstyle entirely based on their leader(Doviello, Balseraph)

Okay, sorry for my non posting in this thread, other things had my attention.
Let's take a look.
Map Type:
Bobchillingworth Wrote:I personally would like to see navy, Octopus Overlords, and the Lanun potentially play a role in the game, so I'm not in favor of any maps that lack or marginalize seas / ocean. Selrahc Wrote:I'd prefer if we all start on one landmass myself. Bobchillingworth Wrote:So for the map, general consensus seems to be for a Pangaea or similar map, with all players on the same continent. Large seas and/or oceans should be present to allow for naval tactics and water-based improvements / wonders, and perhaps some islands should be present as well. Does that sound about right? We could play on a Highlands with high seas or inner sea map (which does seem to work without issues from previous experience), but both of those are being used in PBEM games already, and we might want to try something new. Agree with all the above.
Personally I'd be keen to do something similar to Pitboss 2 - Donut, possibly with Toroidal world wrap.
That looks fun, with relatively even starting locations given flavour by the Unique features.
Lairs: On
On is fine by me.
Unique features: On
Agree with consensus: On, but no overpowered ones right next to capital (include Guardian of the pass in this list please)
Edit: By on, I mean not switching Unique features off. There's another option for 'All Unique features'. Mapmaker's discretion for this, but not forcing all of them to spawn might be better *shrugs*
Acheron: Off
Off please. As mentioned, he's a serious block on expansion.
I don't think it's unduly unfair on the Grigori, and I believe the Sons of Inferno have had Loyalty added in that patch n, thereby preventing For the Horde conversion.
Either way, he's a pain and comes too early. Remove.
Orcus: Abstain
Personally I think his axe is overpowered, but I can live with him being enabled. So abstain.
Barb Activity: ?
Depends on the difficulty.
If Emperor/Immortal +, then standard.
If we're going down to Noble or so, weeeeell.....
Tech trading: Off
I'm happy with a diplo lite game, ie tech trading off, but allowing for some diplomacy, and all the Overcouncil/Undercouncil fun.
Always War: Off
As above, off.
Various other stuff:- Altar victory: On
- Last days: Off
- Living World: Off
I seem to be going against consensus here - I always seem to encounter tons of 'The stars give you a GA' type of events, so would vote Off. I can live with On though.
- Huts: Off
Again, against consensus, Off. The difference between getting two maps or two techs from huts can be game breaking. Lairs at least have a (high) risk attached.
- Blessing of Amathon: Definitely off, apparently this can be a touch buggy.
I've downloaded patch n.
I'm a little adverse to picking leaders until I have more of an idea of the map, including size and difficulty.
The level of desert (Malakim), forests vs jungle (Ljo and Svart elves), sea (Lanun), size of map (Kuriotates), hills (Kazad and Luchiurp) all affect choice of civ so much.
Or are we saying that's part of the risk, and we're putting absolute trust in darrell? ( )
If so, not a problem, I'm happy to roll the dice.

I prefer you specify leaders too, but a couple of people only sent me civs.

I hadn't planned on doing a custom map, just rolling until one was semi-balanced and then doing some light edits. The Erebus map script is cool for that because Malakim gets desert, Elves get forest, dwarves get hills, etc. That script usually has good defensible boundaries between the various regions as well.

Oh shoot I totally forgot to bring up difficulty... I was sort of assuming "immortal", since that seems to be what many/most people play FFH on (including myself). I totally agree that barbs need to be beefed up if we play anything lower- but we probably shouldn't, as this game will almost certainly have at least one AI civ present, potentially two (or three? Apparently some event exists in games where a "Minister Kuon" has the potential to get some of your cities, but I've only seen it happen a couple times out of dozens of games, and always to the AI).
To clarify for Unique Features, I was kind of hoping for all of them, but whatever. I agree that the Guardian should not spawn close to anyone's start.
I think that all the maps types we've discussed tend to have a decent mix of forest / desert / hills etc. Erebus mapscript could work, I tend to not play on it because the land can be really unpredictable (sometimes ranging between small continents to a single massive pangea with just a couple map option tweaks), and because it tends to randomly spawn gigantic stretches of only one or two terrain types.
Acheron removed or on a "questing island", I'm cool with either, although I do like questing
The living world GA events do spawn with alarming frequency, but those mostly seem to happen very early in the game when nobody could possibly have a religion anyway, and so end up being more flavor than anything else.

Ah. That makes more sense.
As far as mapscript goes... I do like the Erebus mapscript but it throws up really uneven starting positions. I would seriously recommend Erebus continent to everyone as far as a more balanced Erebus style map goes.

What seriously changes things though are the great prophet events. Or those bloody Muris clan goblins. Last game I played they crippled my capital city with 6(!) separate poisonings.
Despite that... I still like living world. Just because it really does add a spark of life to proceedings. Most of the time the good and bad events will roughly balance out over a game. RB in general though tends to try and minimize the luck factor, and the living world option does anything but. I don't really mind either way.
Huts I don't mind. I tend to have really bad luck from huts though...

Please do not make it immortal. I am not sure about FFH, but on Civ BTS I get slaughtered in Vanilla there. Monarch or Emperor please.
