Azza planted NW-NW-N of volcano and it's defended by two wounded chariots currently (plenty of time to heal up though) ... That is in range for a non-circumnav galley so either of us could be boated by a galley whipped in the other's city.

Here's a shot of the action for the next couple turns. A new city will be going up in the next turn or so out east ... WB from porcupine times exactly to connect fish the turn we found (yay circumnav!).

Still discussing the potential DOW on Azza with sailing. Disregard the meditation research, it will either be Currency (peace) or Sailing (war). We put one turn into meditation a long time ago and I'm just incubating the 30 beakers while whenever we're saving gold so that they don't start decaying. We could (1) whip out the galley in 4 turns, or (2) wait 3 more turns—7 total—for the borders to pop so that we can chop out the galley. From the tile W-SW of Volcano we can fork both of Azza's coastal cities, so if Azza move a 3rd unit into the city that we can see into we can just go for the other city. The units cannot be unloaded to attack the same turn that we load them into the galley, so this extra move before DOWing is necessary and we might as well put the galley somewhere that it can make Azza think twice about his defenders.

Beakers don't decay, that's only for hammers in city build queues.

Really? Well, it doesn't matter anyway since it's only the free 1bpt while we're saving. I guess I just assumed they did.

I went ahead and turned on research to Sailing. Even if we don't go to war it will open up 2C trade routes with Azza and Commodore via sea connection.

Yeah sorry I was going to say that but went to bed too early.

I think at this stage we need a galley on that border anyway so should plan to get one out and raze if possible.

It might be worth halting the galley inside the city anyway, so that he might not see it.

I don't think we should delay the GS for it though- don't we have a reserve we can use in a pinch?

Yeah the backup is Doughnut, but the library there won't be finishing for at least another turn or more and I just whipped the library up in Volcano. But I don't think GS would be delayed more than a turn (if at all) in the north, because with that wet corn and granary in place we can still regrow Volcano while working two scientists full time.

Started working scientists. GS due in 16 turns (we'll beat T100 by a couple turns smile ).

Here's a shot of the west. Azza must have already expanded through and claimed the double gold site ... A forest 1E of pigs has disappeared. We had a run in with another barbarian warrior that gave us C1 promotion on our exploring impi. Azza hasn't seen that impi yet, so I'm going to sit in place to heal up and then time the northeasterly movement with our galley in the east to strike Azza's newest city there (I think it was founded this turn ... Azza founded somewhere this turn according to civstats). Hopefully it will be defended by a lone chariot like Azza's city across the water.

We cannot build a WB in Doughnut ... There isn't any seafood in sight on the eastern sea. Will we be able to build WB's after sailing comes in, or will we have to build a galley to continue our explorations there?

A barb warrior appeared in the east at the new city (I actually can't remember what I ended up naming the new city ... I'll remember to post a shot of it next time). No problem for the axe stationed there. Just a free XP smile
