Indefinite long term deals: stupid stupid stupid.

Even if hey are beneficial, they're still unfun. As a veteran of an indefinite deal, I'll avoid them in the future.

In fact, I'll probably avoid diplo all together!

I like diplo, but avoiding long term indefinite deals is something I definitely learned here.

But I will add that now I think we had different ideas of what the alliance meant: for me it was working together with the intent of fighting each other later on, the two of us jockeying as we cooperated against everyone else. Towards the end here I started to realize he saw it as something different: a game within a game, where we would reset things to even after everyone else was gone and then go toe-to-toe. Now, I'll have to wait until I delve into his thread to see if that was just what he was telling me, or if he actually meant for us to go that route even when he was the top dog.

Hard to say what I meant back then. But I think that I really was trying to keep us even, which was (I think?) the main reason I didn't go nuts over the whole Taj / berserkers thing. I saw myself as "ahead" so I was willing to let that go to more "even" us up.

But maybe I'm just mis-remembering...

Wow. I haven't finished your thread but I just read the last 3-4 pages and you were really laying into me!

I had no idea you were so dis-satisfied with how things were going. I truly was just trying to work cooperatively with you according to what you had told me you wanted, which was roughly a 50/50 split. You mentioned somewhere in your thread of a division of you taking yuris' lands and the eastern part of Trollia, which is roughly what I was imagining also.

Though in looking at some of your late game screens, I think I may have been overestimating my chances of beating you

I did see something about your being annoyed that I settled towards you when we had agreed to settle away from each other, specifically mentioning the city of WearsCombatBoots. I do not remember specifically trying to settle towards you to stake more territory. I do remember that city and that it was close to you but do not remember the details of why I founded it where and when I do.

In any case, it's frustrating to see how much of a negative light you were casting my actions, when I was doing everything I could to be a good ally. I guess for future games, if everyone is going to think I'm a jerk, I might as well play the part...

Yeah, I did play this very selfishly because I thought you were as well. But when I started to realize you weren't, I didn't know how to proceed. By that point I figured I could only continue on.

Don't take that as a slight against you as a person; I think you were a ton of fun to work with, and chatting to collaborate on C&D or strategy was some of the most fun I had. But there were some frustrating parts along with it, that can be as attributed to me not giving myself a good share or being frustrated at things turning out, to me assuming you were being classic Rego.
