OK, here's the situation around Warendorf:
WPC retook the hill tile this turn, after giving it up last turn for no reason. They didn't get it for free though; based on comparing this picture to their stack from last turn, they lost 2 catapults and 1 dog soldier clearing out the 2 axes and 1 spear that the Germans placed on the forested hill. Not the best trade, but I guess it could have been worse, and a fitting punishment for their stupidity.
WPC also has two injured dog soldiers on the tile to the north that they vacated. When I logged in, there was a diplo screen asking us to keep our war chariot on that tile to protect those injured dogs. I paid no attention to their request and moved our war chariot onto the forested hill. Keeping our war chariot on that tile would have been a death sentence, and I have no intention of killing our unit because WPC was too dumb to leave a spear on that tile to defend against chariots and elephants. I actually hope that the Germans do move an elephant or chariot up there to kill the isolated dogs, as that's two fewer units available to move and defend Webringen.
Feel free to send off some kind of BS diplo message to WPC about how our turnplayer got confused, the clock was running down and there wasn't time to poll the team about moves, etc. The short story is that they screwed up their moves yet again, and we're not losing our unit to no purpose because of their incompetence.
Here are the German units we can see in the region:
That's more units than I expected to see, honestly. The Germans still have a pretty good stack over here, although I'm not sure if it's enough to stop what WPC has in the area by itself. WPC reported the total German units previously as being 11 cats, 3 elephants, 5 chariots, 2 spears, and 15 axes. Now there might be more units still hiding to the south of Warendorf, but if we assume everything missing from this picture went towards the capital, then there's roughly 8 axes and 5 catapults moving to Webringen. That's not trivial, but it's not going to stop us either. We just need WPC to keep some pressure on up here, hold the current units in place, and I think we'll be good to take the German capital.
Anyway, so that was all good news for us. I'm not too pleased at WPC for playing their turn at the absolute last minute, for zero reason whatsoever. We should probably send them a diplo message of some kind thanking them for moving up, talking about how it's looking good to take the capital, and so on. I expect them to move next to Warendorf on this upcoming turn (T154), but they've managed to screw up moving in a straight line already, so I guess you never know.
Turn 154 has started, we'll be able to log in when the Germans finish their turn. Expect to play the turn on Friday.
