The great wall graphic will only show up if you're online when the turn rolls to complete it, and even then I believe it's temporary.

In response to your question, in the base game, razing a floodplains city does remove the terrain feature, but that was changed in CtH as you noticed.

Sumeria sent me a Peace treay offer (declined), possibly because not having an attack ready made it look like I would maneuvring for a peace treaty duh So embarrassing.
Also sent Ginger a copper for copper as promise to be useful eventually. Looks like he has razed a town and has lots of praets to work with

Sumeria sent a peace treaty offering that little island town, also we are trading triremes - he lost two, I lost one plus another that is injured and will be killed on his move.
Land offensive on my part is pretty shit, but maybe he has nothing much prepared to defend with.
Neighbours are watching with chariots  popcorn
Speaking of which, a chariot and scout of mine see praets on the move on the roman front
