[SPOILERS] Pindicator digs up the past with Kongo

Oh my goodness, they do exist!

Almost panicked and swapped to Discipline policy straight away, but Political Philosophy is only 5 turns away so I'm going to stay with my Double Scouting XP.  Um, I do need to pull my slinger back home though: i've been cocky with using it to scout the SE and it is far afield now.

Put my second governor title into Magnus trade routes.  I'm thinking after the Gov Plaza finishes then I go to no pop reduction from settlers and have the capital pump those out with the +50% Settler policy while Behemoth starts building military with the +50% melee production card.  Oh, would you buy the tile to lock the commercial hub cost for Behemoth now? Perhaps I should do that. Or I can buy the granary at Surfcaster in 4 turns.

Really hope I have Iron in 3 turns. If I don't then I'll have to tech Archery > HBR next.

I would go for the granary. Being in the second ring of two cities you will get it for free soon enough. And growth now is worth more than some hammer save in the future.

Turn 054

We have 3 sources of iron, and one is 2nd ring at the capital.  Aristocrat will take that tile next now and it is only 4 turns away.  With that I switched my tech to Iron Working, as I'll have the iron under my borders and mined in time to get the boost and I'll be training my first UU within 10 turns.

Another source of iron is right by Polytheist, so getting more settlers out is high on my priority list.

I did decide to finish the builder at Behemoth.  I figure the extra production from getting the builder out now will trump holding onto it for 20-some turns it takes me to get to Feudalism.  That might be generous, too.

Next turn, Aristocrat finishes the Gov Plaza, puts the governor title into not losing population for settlers, and starts the next settler.  Behemoth will either start another settler or put some turns into a granary before I have enough gold to buy the Commercial Hub - honestly, I forgot which of those I chose for this turn.  Reconsidering just buying the tile for the Commercial Hub now as well; those trade routes and extra income is really what I've been planning towards for snowballing the economy.

I also found two militaristic city states, one to the west of this screenshot, and the other in the far east, beyond Yuri.

You are not going to chop out the Ancestral Hall first? A buffed relic + 50% extra settler production seems worth the delay.

Somehow I thought i had to wait for Political Philosophy to build a building. Let's chop that out first then.

I probably misunderstood, thought you were going full on the settlers. Yes you do have to wait for PP but that is in two turns. In the mean time you can start the settler or dump your unboosted production in something else like a market for the trade route.

Political Philosophy is done and it's time for a real government:

There are probably some questions about my choices, so hear me out. First, I set us to Drama and Poetry next because of my strategy, so my next civic is 7 turns away from completion.

Tech path is to go Drama & Poetry > Games & Recreation > Defensive Tactics > Feudalism.

Btw, should I look at Groves from Mysticism at all? Especially since I went with Earth Goddess for my Pantheon? Feels a bit like a distraction, but maybe I'm wrong.

Good news is we lead the civic race, as we are the first nation to reach Political Philosophy and adopt a Tier 1 Government!

Anyway, back to the policy choice. Over the next 7 turns what am I going to be doing? The iron mine will get under our control in 2 turns and the builder will improve that. I will chop out 2 forests to get the Ancestral Hall done faster at the capital. (Which 2 forests? Thinking the forests E and SW of the capital. Could also chop the jungle W of the city instead but obviously that's less hammers. Still, I probably don't finish the hall and start the settler until I'm ready for the next policy card swap, or maybe 1 turn ahead - so no need for settler policy card now.

Behemoth is going to buy the tile for its Commercial Hub next turn and start building that. I think my biggest debate was whether I should have gone with the +50% unit production card, but I'm going to try to get the Comm Hub finished first I think. Then after that is done I can start on military. Also, it will take about 7 turns for me to get up to 10 iron anyway.

Surfcaster ... honestly, I'm not sure what comes next for that city after the Comm Hub finishes. It's speeding along since I moved the trade route up there and bought the granary to allow it to grow.

Edit: I think we have the golden age wrapped up too? Should get it when I build my first UU.

Things start rolling, great! I did not like your leader but I do like the land.
Surfcaster should ofcourse build a market. You are aware that you need that to get the trade route right?
If you can afford it, chop the jungle west of the capital. Remember, your neighbourhoods do not remove the jungle so you can plan your campus around that.
Your UU only needs 5 iron I think.
Some slingers and warriors would be nice but given the map you dont need much to defend.

Yes, I need to build a market in the capital too, but settlers seem more like the priority right now.

A quick 2t mysticism could have been nice to buy the needed tiles and use the doubling envoy since it will give you one and swap back to better policy. But since you don't really need better policy until 7t you can keep mysticism for emergency change.
