im playing pbem37 on torroid/prince and i've been quite surprised at how quickly im down to 60% breakeven research - just 3 cities in

How does ORG fair in the early game once you get 2-3 cities - does it make any dent?

From what I can tell from quickly glancing through your PBEM 37 thread, you also settled your second city really really far from your capital. Keep in mind that is not a normal distance for a second city

It's hard to know what we might end up with since we don't know our position in the pick order yet. I'm thinking we go:

Inca
Pacal
Huyana Capac
Darius

On the whole IND vs. PHI debate, I'd probably go with IND. I'm a bit of a PHI fanboy, and I'm sure we could leverage it to good effect. I'd just rather have a 'faux' expansion trait, that additionally gives us a good shot at the GLH, rather than the two mid-game economic traits we'd get as Lizzie.

You'd really rate Darius over Willelm? I see absolutely no way in which ORG is better than cheap libraries, free border pops, and a quicker first GS on this map.

I wouldn't under normal circumstances. But given that the map is toroidal/prince and likely to have a lot of coast, yes.

I think by the time ORG effects come into play (lower maintenance and cheap courthouses) we would have been able to expand our borders quite a bit using willems free border props...a closer scrutiny may need to be made before this selection I think.

BTW, are these the things we would end up voting on?

It brings down civic maintenance even if you don't have any courthouses. Not to mention lighthouses can be almost as good as granaries for some coastal cities.

Pick India or inca, wait for our turn with leader and pick the best fin leader available. I'd imagine that would be either Darius/hc/Elizabeth. Pacal, willem and one of the aforementioned leaders will go with picks 3,4,5.
