Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Nice! thumbsup

Can you send me your sandbox? Can't promise that I'll run sims, but doesn't hurt to have the option.

Played another test game with Bismarck this time.

T27 settler with 2 workers up (one chop and one whip into the settler, one whip into 2nd worker) and wb 2 turns from completion. T38 SH in city #2 with 3 chops. T50 third city settled, three workers, Oracle underway. Last part mostly irrelevant as the map will change things.

SH is really quick provided we settled 3 forests with city 2 (that and a whip will do)

I will get around to post my thoughts about the pick today.

Not whipping the capital for the second worker and the settler, I loose 2 turns on the later (3 forests chopped, 1 for worker, 2 for settler), one turn on SH, but gain 2 turns on priesthood. smoke

I wanted to test it just to be sure, but I think I have the early turns micro in mind. Give it a shot if you will Rusten (or anyone following this read), you might find a way to do better than t27 for a couple workers and a settler.

T27 settler with 2 workers sounds about right and should be a good foundation. thumbsup

T38 Stonehenge is sooner than it needs to be for completion's sake, but if the earlier culture is useful that's fine I guess. Might be worth trying to save some of the capital forests for the Oracle. Early scouting turns will help inform our decision. There might be a city out there that can chop it in 1 turn and not rely on natural hammers at all.

Some thoughts on opponents:

Raskolnikov Bismarck/India
The evidence is clear, this is the superior... deadlurkedTM by a noob player but hey lol
GeneralKilCavalry Shaka/Rome
Prolly going agri or hunting then BW (starts with fishing/mining), TW, IW. Then it's all agressive praets. Cheap and good rax, expansive... I don't wanna start next to that guy.
Mr.Cairo Catherine/France
Will prolly focus on REX with cheap settlers and creative, then shoot for a knight/musketeer war. Much better to start next to Mr. Cairo than GKC imo.
Superdeath Joao/Inca
Nice combo. Pretty similar to what we chose. Cheap granary than gives culture. Backed with cheap worker/settler/wb. Superdeath should spread like a disease. Seems popular lately smoke Worrying UU too. I don't know if they start with combat 1 like in vanilla, would be annoying. Strong contender.
TBW Boudica/America
His early units will rock! agressive and 5xp axes/swords. CR3 out of the cheap rax... :hide: Can whip early and hard with charismatic, don't wanna start next to this guy.
Gavagai Sitting Bull/Native America
Cheap granary and good archers both make for relaxed REX. Then philo can help to reach drill xbows... The scout is nice to create an uber medic unit later on... overall nice but not that hot. noidea I would be more relaxed next to him.

To sum up, I really want to avoid neighboring GKC or TBW...

As Rusten said yesterday, only the incas start with mysticism, but Superdeath shouldn't shoot for SH with his +1 culture granaries. We might be blessed with one of the early religion too.

We need to think about GP options.
We might want SH and the Oracle. definatly not in the same city to avoid generating too much priests. A scientist or two might be OK for bulbing the down the liberalism path. But what will help more (moreso if we end up next to the psychos) is (copper lol) a GE (or two). So we need to put a forge engineer and the HG in the same city if we can make that happen.

city A SH -> 2 priest points ie 50 turns to grow a GP
city B The Oracle - > 2 priest points ie 50 turns to grow a GP
City C forge engineer + HG -> 5 engineer points ie 20 turns to grow a GE. (from 20 to 34 depending when we add the HG, then 40 more for a second GE)

So the ideal set up would be: we build a forge within 15 turns after the Oracle, so we get the desired GE, and we add the HG before the first GE is grown, so the 2nd GP is also a GE (a forge engineer won't beat SH or the Oracle to the 2nd GP; (100 + 200)/3 = 200/2 (beware, water wets) so the forge would need to be built the same turn than the Oracle, which is impossible if the plan is to oracle MC). If we build SH, we need to be even quicker... of course this will fall apart when we have to whip for emergency axes to fend off GKC praets Argh

Settled The Evidence.

Hunting selected, city starts on a worker. (10 turns to completion tx to the bonus hammer)
Settling reveals a sheep 3N2W

Scout unmoved. Prolly going 2S1E to check the river and the southern coast. Other possibility is 1NW to check the sheep surroundings.
Planning on settling 1E of the deer down the road (sailing)...

Nice! jive

But you forgot to end your turn.

I just read that you haven't moved the scout, so nevermind about not ending turn.

I recommend going south-southeast and then circling the area for the first city locations. We need to find out which locations have both food and forests.
