[Mjmd #60] Why even buy toys for kids?

(May 28th, 2021, 08:35)Krill Wrote: Your children are cats.

All children are cats. Pile of laundry - sit directly on top.

Yes to boxes!!!! We made a big one into an outhouse for when my daughter was potty training so we could have outside. When winter came it turned into an indoor toy.

Also, put a full stable box on floor, kids sit on - like a cat. Got ta connect the two!

Edit: in actual game news, declared war on SD to move through.

And agree with you on Carthage, only because everybody always thinks Cothon and that isn't that great of a building. Carthage is all about numids, imo

Couch cushions were our go to building materials for forts. Cardboard boxes got us into space.

I added pw to second post in case there are any future problems. I 100% should have done that before going this trip to internet if your phone is in 1 specific place and only then.

I love the kid discussion, but very sad no one else likes my boring micro. For the record India fast worker saves me 7!!!! worker turns (ok ok you can say just 5 because moving to do 1 turn of grassland mine and then back isn't probably relevant for a while).

I'll post updated map and copper discussion when I get back. Suffice to say Tarkeel really wanted to make sure creative was good this map. I think I have a plan, but it isn't the best plan ever and I'm really sad SD is my neighbor.

I love hearing about your boring micro plans, I just can comment on them, just as I love see how you dotmap this.

1st Tarkeel skip this part:

Cries seeing SD with two golds vs my two silvers. The bad thing about mirrored starts and maps is when um things then aren't mirrored......... I can only hope I'm being compensated in some other way that is worth 4c a turn....... SD also has river silk vs my desert incense. I guess you can at least say I get 1 more workable tile in the long term there.... Probably should have jungled the golds and then split starts silvers and gems if you wanted to do the whole split happy thing.

2nd: figured out why SD skipped hunting as I was passing through. He needed something for his worker to do. Will be interesting how people solved this depending how they moved.

3rd: copper locations
[Image: F0bPvWx.png]

Unless you are creative there is exactly one spot that grabs copper, a food, and is connected via trade. That spot is 1W of the copper on a floodplain.... Obviously not settling there. Now this probably wouldn't be a problem on a map with this long of a rush distance except you know SD with war chariots.......

Other options:
-Use things called roads. When to research????
-Pop borders. hmmmmm Ya lets choose that one. I really wanted a religion and would love to stake my claim to oracle early. I'm thinking early meditation. Like right after fishing early. Obvious cost is not doing AH, but technically 3rd city doesn't need and 4th can start improving the grassland silver (I haven't fully simmed out when AH would then finish). I'm mainly burning hammers by skipping and hopefully my traits will let me make that up. Will also give me trade pre turn 50 (when capital pops 3rd borders), so gain a few commerce that way.

I should probably do more micro this turned out well:

Only two turns not growing spent! To note i could have gotten it to 101/100, but due to imperialistic that extra hammer is rounded away it looks like (both production and beakers return to base before getting multiplied again).

I realized a couple of turns ago I maybe should have built a second scout instead of a warrior. I might do a scout next. Current warrior can go south and then scout can go explore NW.

But ya more micro. The turn of revolting will actually be nice to give me a sec to think and check out marble area. If I go with current x on marble Stonehenge would also hit the copper, but it might be too late if SD settles on a horse. I'm maybe being too scared, as A) its a long ways, B) settling on horse may be a horrid spot and he will take time improving, C) he may pick someone else to attack; although somehow SD and I always end up conflicting. But that city isn't slated to be settled until T38, figure 3 chops means need 30 hammers still. Figure 10 turns as workers will be improving some floodplains into farms. Puts it roughly in the late 40s, which is way earlier than I built in PB52.

I also have never tried to do the Oracle thing in multiplayer, so I have no clue how highly to value the early religious signalling.

Sigh. I mean I guess this was the smart way to do it, but was it smart?

What is the earliest Stonehenge someone built and actually been successful? This reeks of Civacs influence (Maya are the only ones who have both mysticism and could have gotten BW to chop out). Civac has heavily lurked German threads, so I'm assuming he has more experience with these kind of wonder plays. Certainly is a blow to me. They had no way of knowing I was probably 15+ turns from building so they uber rushed it. I'll be interested if they kept detailed micro and what they gave up.

In what I gained you can see Water was founded this turn and 2 workers immediately started improving wheat. This will allow city to grow to size 2 in 6 turns. Workboat should be complete then as well if math is at all right (2 turns 1 hammer working floodplains, 4 turns 2 hammer working wheat, + 20 from 1 chop). Again should I do micro probably....... Note because it isn't connected via trade its actually a net loss from founding on commerce until it is working the crab, which you usually try to avoid, but site has strongest food until the pig.

I moved the marble site 1W to grab the fish. This is actually a pretty big problem with my religion plan. Water will be favored as it was founded sooner and will be at size 2, but there is still some % that that city could get, which I guess would at least grab the fish quick as consolation. I'm still not sold on it being my 3rd site mind, but with no good 1st ring pig location that doesn't invalidate a fish plant it is probably my best site? Still site of eventual oracle and colossus plays. The grassland silver site is weak on food until it gets the fish plus my workers are south. Grassland silver city will still be 4th although I forget what turn in the 1 longer sim I did that I will settler for.

Water will probably produce a settler with its first whip for the pig site.

So something I've been bad at is changing plans when conditions change.

Facts:
-I didn't get stonehenge. Result, no free monuments.
-I won't be building early stonehenge at fish marble site, therefore to get fish I would need to build a monument or wait on oracles culture. It will have a farmed floodplain.
-Speaking of farmed floodplain, Water doesn't actually have a ton of tiles I want to give away atm as I want that city to grow.
-No matter what city I settle next I probably want to work silver at size 2 because my economy SUCKS.
-Northern fish silver does want to build a monument either way now as religion spreads are iffy.
-The grassland silver while its 2c / turn short of a gold..... is my best tile.
-Overall once it pops borders and starts working fish will also be able to work a copper.

Long way of saying I've decided to go north with my next settler. Settles a turn later at T39. Workboat timing isn't affected although farming of a floodplain will be, but alas.

On T33 I met Jowy who knows sailing! Maybe super early Great Lighthouse Play? He is east of me. I was actually super sad that his scout was heading back to his territory, was hoping to meet more people sooner and save scout some time / allow it to monitor SD.

Sometimes its not your game.....

GKC sent his 1st warrior straight at me. He can declare war this turn. He can choose to raze the wheat and / or try low odds attack vs Water, which my warrior will make it into in time.

PB56 I kept scout around to help prevent this kind of surprise, but with the rush distance I have to admit to being slack in screening.

With how the map is set up the smart thing to do would have been to go bother Jowy.

Hope! He did not attack. He may have just earned himself an ally. And mind he straight up nailed his pick. Has a great combo for this map.
