Our Strategy....You Probably Haven't Heard of It

I believe India is 2nd in food and 4th in prod while France is 7th in food and 2nd in prod now (at least, that's what Shoot told me).

And here are the screenshots to prove it nod:hat:band Actually, looks like I misread the demogs screen when talking to you in game...France is 7th in soldiers (which is meaningless) but 4th in food! =) We are now 1-2-4 in both food and production (!!!) and 1-2-3 in land area, although with all the lakes land area does not mean as much as food or production. Pretty stellar I'd say.

I had to do some rather weird micro stuff in Agra to get it out this turn, but obviously it was worth it. The city was at pop 3 working these tiles: a grass-hill mine, a flat-plains stone quarry, and an unimproved plains hill for 2h. Not worked was a farmed grassland corn and netted clams. Not a normal tile working, but got out the HG!

Just for the lurker's reference, we also did some fun stuff regarding the order in which we played. We had WK log in an plant two new cities first, but not end turn. Then India played it's full turn (including planting a new city) and ended turn. Only then did Rome end turn. That way the new pop got not only in the new cities but also applied to his old cities for this turn. Finally I went ahead and played France.

Quick question: does anyone know when fail gold comes in during sequential turns pitboss? If it is when the wonder finishes I don't believe anyone else was building the wonder (well TMIT has 66 gold, forgot to check before I finished the wonder, but at least no one on Team 1 who is all in the teens or lower of gold).

But since you underestimated France, I'll let you off the hook (1st, 2nd AND 4th in food?!? jive).

Errr.... not sure on this one. I wouldn't try looking at it too deeply though since the aqueduct prerequisite would make it harder to confirm if someone went for it since it doesn't give fail gold (and there's no other reason to build one of those this early).

That's very true, didn't think of that. This is even more true if someone micro'ed in a similar manner to what I did -- before this turn I only had 45 hammers in the HG (20 raw considering the 2.25 modifier). If someone was planning to time their chops on the last turn like I did (had three chops all come in this past turn to complete the HG) it would barely show.

It's checked as part of city production turn processing. Each other player will get refund gold the next time they end the turn.

(Simultaneous Pitboss works differently than sequential. With simultaneous turns, everybody processes when the turn rolls, but the player order is randomized each turn; so some players would get refund gold right away and some would wait to the next turn rollover.)

What I found most amusing was that I was genuinely checking the tech thread and couldn't stop, despite learning nothing from it (apart from confirmation of the passage of time).

Random Teching Musings:

After we get guilds online, where do we want to head?

A thought occurred to me earlier today: we could prepare to bulb gunpowder after finishing guilds and go on the warpath with musketeers and knights.

We should also consider early research into banks, the tech is cheap, banks are cool, and mercantilism should be pretty useful on this map since we have no foreign trade routes.

Alternatively, we could make a run at liberalism.

Thoughts?

Well we do have France, so no sense wasting musketeers. Dunno how it can be bulbed though (GS goes down the paper line while GE goes for Engineering, nothing else bulbs it).

Agree, it's cheap yet gives quite a bit.

Not sure about this one though. Despite our food/MFG/pop lead our GNP kinda sucks. Lib requires a couple of other techs that wouldn't be much use otherwise (mainly paper and philo) which we can't really afford right now.

One other tech path I might consider is Nationalism -> Military Tradition, but that'll probably be more useful later on.
