[SPOILER]The Acquiline Empire - GE's ode to "The Eagles"

No no no, don't do that, always work your best food tiles. As in slot in a warrior before the settler.

If anything, it's probably okay to slow down the settler push in favour of another worker, who can road towards our next city.

Oh ... OK. Slow down the 2nd Warrior build & then do Worker while Wheel completes.

Is that right about growth to size 4? Anyone have the figure? What tile to work in addition to the improved ones? Mine the Silver? Work/Mine the Plains Hill? Work a Lake/Coast tile for the Commerce?

Turn 14 - 3160BC

PaulH's game of "Fox & Hound" with Dazed's Warrior [sadly un-named] just changed slightly. Have sent PaulH back towards Mecca [hmm ... another unchanged; any mutual lurkers, please nag] in the hope that the Warrior turns back too.

Deer Camp completed [on schedule!] so SteveC will move to Farm the wet Rice next [ready in time to build the Worker tongue]. Kenny Sansom completes @ EOT, so queued up the next Warrior [Vince Hilaire], Worker [Malcolm Allison] & Settler ready. City also grows on schedule too [@ EOT]

Looked at the tech to check that was on schedule too & noticed I was a tad out, have tweaked the figures accordingly. Also factored in working the Fresh Water Lake at size 4 [got the growth figure of 17 @ EOT so that's included too] for extra Commerce to speed up the tech-rate. So the plan now is as follows:

Turn 14 - Warrior 10/10 [1 over] - F*+D - BW 84/114 - G 16/16 [size 3] 2/17
Turn 15 - Warrior2 4/10 - F*+D*+R - BW 99/114 - G 10/17
Turn 16 - Warrior2 7/10 - F*+D*+R - BW 114/114 - G 17/17 [size 4] 1/??
Turn 17 - Warrior2 10/10 - F*+D*+R+L - Wheel 15/56 - G 9/??
Turn 18 - Worker 14/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 30/56
Turn 19 - Worker 27/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 45/56
Turn 20 - Worker 40/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 56/56 [4 over]
Turn 21 - Settler 13/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 19/76
Turn 22 - Settler 26/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 34/76
Turn 23 - Settler 39/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 49/76
Turn 24 - Settler 52/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 64/76
Turn 25 - Settler 65/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 76/76 [3 over]

Point of note; Crystal Palace is the only size 3 city now, Commodore whipped last turn, so he lost 6 points. Dazed's Mecca grew to size 2, so he gained 6 points last turn.

Turn 15 - 3100BC

Hmm ... looks like the ploy to distract Dazed's 'un-named' Warrior didn't work, lost sight of him & guess he's still heading North to the choke-point [projected path in green]. Hence I've sent KennyS to the dot-site b where he will fortify & prepare a warm welcome [South Park references at the ready, but hopefully not needed]. Vince Hilaire building; he will fortify Crystal Palace [interesting to note that I have a Right-Back off scouting, a Left-Back on his way to defend a hill and will have a Midfielder in a holding position within the 6-yard box ... didn't think that through, did I?] Anyway, back to PaulH; sent him to harass Dazed's Worker around Mecca ... Oh God!!!!

That's a 3rd Warrior [he started with one & I've seen 2 built - that was the Power spike I saw & failed to comment on last turn] Thankfully I chose not to send PaulH directly to Mecca; if that Warrior moves away, I'll drop PaulH onto the Deer tile next turn.

Bronze Working completes next turn; do I revolt to Slavery before, or after, the planned Settler?

Turn 16 - 3040BC

At least I made Dazed's Warrior turn back from wherever he was going. He's gone to cover the Deer tile, so PaulH has beaten a hasty retreat.

A couple of scores moved last turn; both Celiazul & Commodore gained 6 points. Checked the top cities and someone grew to [or back to] size 3, so all I can glean is one grew, the other tech'd. No matter about whoever grew as we grow to size 4 @ EOT; just as Bronze Working completes!

So, press "Enter" & Hey Presto ... 12 points!!!

And ... "ooh ... I see ... shiny!" [Thank you KennyS] Yes! Copper has been discovered, just outside the BFC ... grrrr! So let's review those potential city-sites; a, b, or c? Actually, forget a as there's nothing useful in the water & we cannot access the Copper straight-away. So that leaves b, where KennyS will be fortifying shortly [when he stops gazing in wonder at the Copper] with its 3 Mountains & major overlap or c, which will require Animal Husbandry to be effective. Or the unmarked d in the valley between them.

Oh, and found out the next size goal, so amended plan accordingly:

Turn 16 - Warrior2 7/10 - F*+D*+R - BW 114/114 - G 17/17 [size 4] 1/18
Turn 17 - Warrior2 10/10 - F*+D*+R+L - Wheel 15/56 - G 9/18
Turn 18 - Worker 14/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 30/56
Turn 19 - Worker 27/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 45/56
Turn 20 - Worker 40/40 - F*+D*+R*+L - Wheel 56/56 [4 over]
Turn 21 - Settler 13/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 19/76
Turn 22 - Settler 26/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 34/76
Turn 23 - Settler 39/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 49/76
Turn 24 - Settler 52/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 64/76
Turn 25 - Settler 65/65 - F*+D*+R*+L - Pottery 76/76 [3 over]

I'm guessing Granary will be next, so we'll be size 5 by the time it finishes, unless we revolt to Slavery at some point and whip the Worker or Settler out - I estimate we can re-grow from size 2 to 4 just as the whip unhappiness runs out.

You mean 1W of the copper? I'd sure go there, to have all three resources available in first ring.

Another option is on the rice. The rice lacks freshwater, so is only a 4 food tile if worked; transforming that to a 3-food city square instead is a fine option. That gets you coastal access plus all of sheep, cow, copper, and fur, although you'd need a border pop (chop a monument?) as soon as possible.

My only concern is whether being overlooked by 3 hills makes it indefensible

also takes in 3 peaks in the BFC frown plus I don't have Mysticism ... yet cry

That's nothing to worry about. The peaks make no difference whatsoever to the city until it reaches size 18. Are you worried about that now? smile Also, your other locations include unreachable coast which is just as useless as a peak, you'll never want to work that anyway.

Defensibility of the flatland vs hill options is a concern, but that's up to you.

Those coast tiles are a Food-pit without a Lighthouse [which of course cannot be built inland banghead] That Rice idea would take in those Furs [Nicolae mooted a city in that direction too; between the Rice & Furs, I think] and it would hold the choke point.

Just checked & the Capital's borders pop on turn 25/26 so that would allow access to the Copper earlier [the 2nd Worker will Road there as The Wheel comes in just as it's built, so will be ready to Mine it when the pop happens] Doesn't really matter where the 2nd city goes as it can work it from the off if the cultures meet up correctly.

On the matter of Monuments, been thinking about a religion/Oracle run after Pottery [Mysticism -> Meditation -> Priesthood] assuming the city's back to size 4 [after a 2-pop-whip-Settler] our tech-rate hopefully will be superior enough to beat those who started with Mysticism.

I was going to push to settle north instead of west, but if we know of a chokepoint that can be defended by copper, may as well take it. Besides, the choke is closer to us than dazed.

Usually best to revolt to slavery after your first settler gets finished.
