[PB58 - spoilers] AT's Order of the Civ

(January 17th, 2021, 17:57)Charriu Wrote: Love it. The bonus from IMP is great, but it's not like you are doomed to settle slower without it.

it is great - where it really helps is that you can 2 pop whip a settler very easily.  On a map like this, where you don't have to worry about barbs, I still expect the imp civs to build more cities.  The question is whether that's enough.

I feel like my naming convention is wrong. I mean, OOTS is the right convention, but places don't seem to be correct. It's a character driven comic, and I should use the names of the characters. Anyone think different? Also, they are shorter wink

Characters names would be easier to recognize for other players too.

Cap renamed to Roy. Roy Greenhilt is the LG human male (most of the time) fighter leader of the Order of the Stick. The long-suffering leader, that is - both alive and dead. OOTS started off as a joke-a-strip comic, mainly aimed at making fun of AD&D 3.5 edition and roleplaying in general. When it got it's plot, it was Roy's show, though it's kind of morphed into the whole groups quest, now.

Roy has a younger, bratty living sister and no other living relatives, which doesn't stop them from showing up, of course. Roy fights with a great sword with a greenhilt - the ancestral weapon of his family. He despises the cliche of a dumb fighter - he has an MBA and once won a battle with knowledge of architecture.

I guess some more background on OOTS is a good plan.

The comic was started in the early 2000s by Rich Burlew (I think 2002 or 2003). It's currently at 1200 comics. Comics are full page (some of them are mult-page or have non-traditional layoyts) - there are I think 6 hardcopy books with commentary and bonus strips, plus 2 prequel books, a book of non-canon OOTS strips from the Dragon Magazine and a variety of other comics Rich has drawn for various reasons. A few years ago, Rich ran a kickstarter to get some money to get back issues of the hard copies into print and it was wildly successful - at the time, the most successful kickstarter for a comic ever. www.giantitp.com is where it's at - also at that site is an extremely active forum discussing a variety of topics.

The actual Order of the Stick is a group of 6 adventurers - Roy Greenhilt, LG male human fighter, Haley Starshine CG-ish female human thief, Durkon Thundershield, LG male dwarf cleric, Vaarsuvius, N elf wizard, Elan, a CG male human bard and Belkar Bitterleaf, CE male halfling ranger. Their quest is to kill the Lich Xykon and, along the way, deal with various relatives, adversaries and save the world from a godkilling crayon monster. They are a combination of incompetant and powerful - often running from low-level monsters such as goblins early in the comics, but charging at Xykon, an epic level sorcerer lich.

This gave me a good chuckle at remembering that one particular story arc.

Ahh, the poor lost king of Nowhere.

Next turn, my new city will be Durkon - could be Haley, who is 2nd in command, but Durkon seems like the right guy.

The imp civs seem slow off the mark for their first city. I thought I'd be slow at turn 32, but so far, no one else has settled (though Jowy and Serdoa haven't played turn 31 yet)

Founded Durkon. Durkon is Roy's oldest companion and kind of a steadying influence. He's a LG male dwarf cleric of Thor. He hates the beer in the human lands, his favorite spell is Thor's Might, which makes him a Giant Dwarf, is the focus of some prophecy about death and destruction and is Pindicator's avatar, so you know he's popular wink He's actually pretty grounded and realistic, which is unusual for the Order, but he does have a high wisdom (as clerics must). Duty is very important to him. Like most clerics, he's not a fan of the undead.

This is a city that I wouldn't have founded here if I wasn't creative, but I expect it to be incredibly strong, with plenty of food and hammers. I expect to build the great lighthouse here (WB, warrior, granary, lighthouse, GLighthouse, with a settler or two on the way). I might get beat - SD loves the lighthouse and it's a strong wonder for this map and Tarkeel has some major advantages (org and ind), so I might go with collosus instead. I have to think about that.

Demos at 0% research are strong - GNP is strong, even with the 4 extra from culture, food is tops, MFG good middle of the road.

Currently, I feel good smile

CRE really comes in handy here.

yes. I think this makes for an easier dotmap than the tundra - more room for FP cities.

Looks like Jowy and SD founded turn 32 as well, with Ruff founding this turn. Someone is size 4 - dunno who that is.

I think my next builds are worker->settler in the cap, then a settler for sheep or sheep/wheat to the west. Need to drop in some granaries at some point, as well.
