I think I'll go spot-by-the-rice for city one -> southwestern spot for city two -> overseas city. Depending on what we find it could be the spot E of silver (that would get one of the deers for food), the spot NE of the furs, or the spot with the pigs E of the cap.

The other one will be settled later then when the first oversea cities have been placed?

I'm considering going for an early religion. It's not a large detour. Maybe right after sailing ?

For culture in general. I don't want to have to build monuments everywhere just to get border pops. But indeed the second city will be much better with its second ring of corn + fish.

Meditation is cheaper, but polytheism is needed for monotheism so will be needed later (while meditation can be left for when we need philosophy). I think I want to go for meditation to be as fast as possible, but maybe someone will go for an even earlier religion and will make the choice even easier.

That was part of the reason I asked, when playing against the AI someone with Mysticism is always going for Meditation first, so you have to go for religion even earlier. I do not know the expected timings for MP but believe that everybody is likely starting with a Worker as none choose a fishing CIV. This means they will head for some worker related techs first as well if they are necessary.

How strong do you expect China's metal casting beeline to be?

The AI goes for religion way too early. In a small game like this there is no rush for religion.

Rather strong. The colossus is going to be his eco trait, for lack of a real eco trait. But then, like with every strategy, it needs to be done properly. So we'll see.
