REVOLT TO SLAVERY
And my barbarian troubles continue.
T32
And the stupid barbarian archer moves to threaten Sparta. So I 2x drywhip the phalanx because, well, I'd rather not lose that city.
Here's what it looked like before the whip :'( 19/60 in the granary which is like 7 more than I had thought previously.
Here's Athens in full granary progress.
Little Corinth, just starting out.
... Look at that crop yield!
Phalanx will eat the archer and then Ill shuffle him over to the barb city.
T33
Of course, the archer eats my cows -- but the phalanx is successful at killing the bastard!
Chop goes into the granary as expected. I'll need to figure out another plan. So, to do that, here's the current progress.

The barbs are good at being annoying. Archers showing up increases the threat, too. Fortunately you can build stronger units; just have to come up with enough hammers.

Trying to find the optimal location for the units out to the east. I need a unit on the stone as that protects me from having to garrison Corinth for the time being. I think the forested hill directly east of Sparta also protects me from incursions from that direction.
Of course, this assumes that the barb city doesn’t send anything my way.
After the dry whip at Sparta, I should have reconsidered research choices. There’s not much chance I would be getting granary before going Great Lighthouse. Oh well.

I am not sure how often barb cities spawn units. Is it an actual build process, or do they just produce a unit every so often?

Barb cities spawn with a certain number of defenders (4 Archers on deity) and then have a normal build queue. Defenders rarely leave the city. Normal barbs spawning in the fog are usually more problematic than those built in cities

Back after a 36-hour trip to Las Vegas. It didn’t go super-well: Kings lost, woke up too late to bet on football, and then finished the night by playing some really dumb blackjack and losing all my gambling winnings. Hooray for me.
Anyway, back to this thing.
T35
chop goes into Athens and I realize that I can finish the granary with some micromanagement. So let’s do that. I can then 2x whip the settler and regrow at size 2, which will accelerate me back to size 4.
T36
Workers head north to reconnect Sparta’s cows. I alter my plan again and grow Athens to size 5 next turn, then the 2x whip into the settler. my one hammer can go into a barracks.
Gilgamesh founds a city up in the north and I’m starting to think that this is not going to go the way I think. this might be a cultural victory attempt — in which case I should have just played a game on Deity.
But it’s the journey, right? Right?
I’ve also spent through my hut gold so i drop science to 0% for a turn. I think Writing follows Masonry for an early Academy.

Workers move to the cows and start repasturing.
Wolfslayer kills an attacking barbarian archer.
Start a settler in Athens. Will 2x whip with the overflow going into ... a worker, i think. We'll chop out the worker.
Sparta is currently 30/60 on a granary at size 3. I should have switched to the lighthouse last turn-- then I could max 2x whip the granary into ... nothing. I'd have to finish the lighthouse before I can start the great lighthouse.
Sigh. No pictures, sorry.

I believe this is traditional for trips to Vegas. It is how they afford building all those big fancy casinos in the middle of the desert. Hopefully you had fun while you were there.

Welcome to deity! this means someone has marble and/or is industrious. Hope it's not Huyana.
I'm tempted to reach and put city 4 here. But that spot really just has a +4 food surplus from the farmed floodplain until it can pop borders. I'd also need a military unit to properly defend it. Which makes me think that the less inspiring, eastern fish is better. I just don't have the techs to claim to the calendar spot on the lake -- and the sheep and stone spot is more maintenance and a little more exposed. It's also, frankly a bad spot. Too much desert.
Where should I found next?

That sheep/stone site is annoying. One off the coast is usually not a good idea, but in this case it is tempting for the short term benefit. Longer term you would be better on the coast, though.
The fish site is safe, and would be nicely productive once it got a work boat built for the fish. But you can claim it any time.
You would need a source of culture, but you could found a city to push against the barb city and grab the flood plains. Might be more useful a bit later though, once you are closer to Calendar, and would need solid military protection.
