Got the save, I'll play sometime in the next day or so. Time for war!

Hmm, did we not want to attack Mediolanum. It will work better in retrospect, as Rome was in war mode, but still.
Did we not want to go for a religion. Bronze Working and a camp defeats the purpose. It seems we are going for a GG or not for discounted districts. Colour me confused.

I think we need a GG -- we have nowhere to settle, really, look at Rome's third city and the coastline to Rome's east. We are jammed into a tiny continent.
I just hope we are able to get to Rome's cities before they complete districts. BTW, what happens if you capture a city with an unfinished district? We derive no benefit, so can we keep the city, provided we don't complete the district? It will fuck up our discounting equation, though...

when you conquer a city with an unfinished district, it will simply disappear.

We need to conquer Mediolanum asap then, inspecting the map I see that it started a district next to a mountain.
Also, the scout can potentially do some useful pillaing, 25 science at this stage in the game is pretty huge, for us especially, as it speeds up swords.

I agree that we need to try and capture Mediolanum before it finishes the district, but better not to risk our units in the process. Even if we end up having to raze Mediolanum, we at least open up a good settling spot for later.
By the way, can we raze Capitals in Civ 6? If we can't, there's a chance we won't be able to fully take out Rome, if they finish a district in (the city of) Rome.
Any idea about a decent tech path? I think we need to avoid district techs as long as possible, to not mess with the discount formula. Since we went BW already, I think the bottom of the tech tree is a good bet, gunning for swords and maybe Xbows. The big question is when do we tech Currency and Apprenticeship. We really want the +1 to mines, but it opens up 2 new, non-discounted, districts, so it messes up things a lot.
What are our real chances at a religion (can you post the Great People screen info for us, QB)? I think it's getting a bit hard, since we aren't likely to finish a HS soon. I wouldn't say it's the end of the world. In this case, the district discount pantheon seems flavourful and useful, though, as I've mentioned previously, those districts won't count as discounted, so we still need to watch for the actual valid discounts (from Japan UA and the formula).

Do we have a consensus for Pantheon choice? I still like Divine Spark, but some people have been pushing for City Patron Goddess.
GP status as of the question: We're making 1 general point, someone is making 2 Scientist points, Rome has finished Mediolanum's HS and is the only person getting Prophet points, someone else just finished a Harbor. Rome-the-city is also building a Holy Site and it I seriously doubt we'll be able to take it before it finishes.

Nope , capitals cannot be razed. If the district is an encampment, theatre or holy site, it wouldn't affect your variant, would it? A campus or commercial hub could be awkward, unless you can deliberately keep a "slot" open, perhaps, for the district that Rome has that you don't?
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore

The question is not whether the district could be built with a discount, the question is whether it was. And, well, we're the only Japan, nobody else is getting those cheap districts. Gotta burn them.
