In hindsight, yes. With the double AH start we had the worker idling for two turns (building roads of little value). Losing either coin would have added another turn to that each, although maybe the roads could then have served to actually support the first two settlers. I guess those two turns would have pushed back said settlers for 1-2 turns as well, but with our neighbours' settling choices that would not have been an issue. I don't think the 4th city would have been in danger either, and after that it would have worked out.
The real question is whether under these circumstances Rusten would have been willing and able to convince me to go through with the Byz pick. Probably yes, I'm easily convinced, as you can see in the thread.
