I think it's going to be very likely that they will want to renew the NAP, and when we refuse, it's going to telegraph our intentions. They might be suspicious at the start now if they notice that we have NAPs with everyone else but not them, but by the time we attack I don't think they'll be as suspicious as they would be if we had just refused to sign a NAP with them.

But it might be a good idea to sign them to a short (20-30 turns) NAP just to be on the safe side. I see no reason to take chances.

If they are the team with the highest power score, they might feel that others should ask them for a NAP and that they are in very strong position right now (few cities, many units?) and therefore we have not gotten a NAP request straight away.
Hold back on offering a NAP for now. And a 20-30 turns NAP is pretty short isn't it, as NAPs go? Suspicious in itself. mh

Yeah, my hesitance on the NAP is the issue on renewals later and potentially suspiciously short time frame. I'm headed out again pretty soon for the night, but when I'm back (6 hours or so) I'll take a look at wherever the discussion goes and I'll draft something.
It will at least tell us their intentions.
We can always not renew, and not do absolutely anything for another 30 turns.
I agree we shouldn't ask for one.
They didn't ask for one because they have the highest power rating. If we want one and they don't, we're just going to signal weakness. And since we only want a short time frame and don't plan to renew it, we're better off avoiding the subject.

I don't think we're ready for war in 30 turns. I think 80 turns is more realistic. I would ask for a NAP. We don't even know that WPC is our preferred target. The Germans look more attractive from a geographic viewpoint.
I have to run.
I also see little downside in asking for a NAP. If they decline, that information is quite valuable.
If you know what I mean.
Skip asking about a NAP. Better to put our diplomatic efforts into thing that have a noticeable game impact, like OB. If they ask, then maybe go for a time-limited one.
