The insane number of partially completed buildings are a result of two things. First, you vetoing my builds while I took the brief break a few months ago, and second us not having access to slavery for a very long time. Beleive me, I see them and they annoy the shit out of me, especially at Hell Below where I told you ages ago we needed culture and started a library, only for you to swap it out halfway for a market that's partially built. If I recall that number correctly there are 87 hammers invested between the two of them, and we've already begun losing tiles to William's madrassas. Just sayin'...next time you get heavy with the veto hand thing about it a bit, I don't always do things without a reason. There are other examples of where our dual CEO-ness has led to bad results but that one is the most galling.

You may have noticed my recent posts dissecting our rivals' tech situations, which is entirely possible because I've already researched Alphabet to clear the bulb path. So a Philosophy bulb is already possible. I just didn't pull the trigger on doing it because I thought we may be better off saving the GS for a future golden age. I don't know if we should do an academy or not, it probably depends on how hard we whip down and for how long. Since the capital won't be whipped it's going to continue producing a sizable portion of our empire's overall economic output and, in that scenario, an academy seems like a good use. However, will the academy produce enough beakers over time to surpass the number of beakers we'd get from a bulb right now (Philo), and is the tech we can bulb valuable enough to warrant using the GS that way instead of using him to invest in higher long term output (academy)? I think the academy at this stage of the game is more valuable unless we have a pressing need to burst through Philosophy and research beyond it. What would that be, Nationalism? To draft what, muskets? We're a little way off from that, I don't know how many turns, but I think the beakers lost relative to spending the GS on an academy make bulbing Philo not worth it unless we actually need that tech for some reason (with S.P. we already have pacifism unlocked so I don't know why else we'd want it right now).

That leaves the third option, saving him for a golden age. Do we have any prospect of producing two more great people right now during the golden age? I think we're using all our food on hammer out put, although it may be worthwhile to go ahead and build the national epic in our capital and take the deer tile back from Happy Face and run a few more specialists at Mister Love. We're running three now (or we were when I last saw the city), with the deer we could run a permanent 5 to 5.5 specialists and that's pretty solid for a NE. Even without pacifism we could churn out GPs fairly steadily in the capital, although it would be a big crapshoot as to which one we would generate on a given cycle.

So, pending how long we think we'll be whipping our empire down, how long we'll be out of bureaucracy, and whether we have a real use for Philosophy now, I would lean toward spending this scientist on an academy and pushing our science rate a bit. If we do that it will be a shame I didn't just use him already, but it's only been what ten turns or so since the useless GS spawned? Mea culpa, we didn't need 50% more beakers in our capital those turns anyway. lol

We would only want Philosophy to get to Nationalism. As you say, we have the Shwedagon Paya for Pacifism. I totally missed that we had Alphabet, that's good. And, all we need for Gunpowder is... Gunpowder. We have Guilds. Education won't do much for us for quite a while with our slider rate so low now and I'm assuming it will be low even if our wars go well as we integrate far-flung lands.

Swapping to Nationalism will kill our Bureaucap efficiency, but we're looking at a wider and wider empire, where drafting makes a lot of sense. This is a large map and we're going to end up with a lot of cities that will be very weak teching for a while until we can get some more cottages (or specialists, most likely) up and running. I think having waves of draftees out of size 6-8 cities is better for us than having one city continue to pull the entire economy forward. It would be nice if we could get there by the end of this golden age so we don't have to agonize over how we're going to get another free civic swap later on. If we go with Nationalism, then having the NE in the capital doesn't matter quite so much. We'll still need Oxford there. We don't have a national wonder in Mister Love yet, do we?

Also, this is amusing to me:

That's WilliamLP's awesome tool that counts forum posts, views, etc. I think we're tipping our hand. shhh

Assuming, of course, that our neighbors somehow missed the most aggressive civic swap in history. Well, almost...we lack Nationalism still. lol

Quickly, go tell all of our friends in the other threads. Something along the lines of "those guys are just yelling at Brick because he forgot to turn off his caps lock again."

Hey that was me. In the other thread, not shouting in the video. The guy in the video, though, has been reassigned. He now runs the head start program in Happy Face, because OUR KIDS NEED, no, DESERVE QUALITY EDUCATION!!!!! He was beside himself when the government shut down, no word yet whether or not his head exploded after that.

Also, regarding our peaceful intent... the other players have access to this amazing tool called Civstats. Between that and the civic swaps I think they all know what we are up to. With us having alphabet giving easy visibility to our techs they'd be ill advised to read the whips as grocers.
